Family Reunion

  • 3 of 5

I am writing this review because I have come to appreciate reviews when buying products and services. Unfortunately I did not see any reviews about this property which accurately described the state of disrepair and disorganization which affected our vacation. On arrival at 2pm my wife and I announced our arrival and were told to leave our luggage on the driveway while the owners finished cleaning. No problem we said: we will just go for grocery shopping and meet back at the 4pm arrival time. Arriving at 4 we found the house locked and no owner to be found. After searching we found a back door unlocked and proceeded to "explore" the house. Hoping to meet the owners for a walkthru tour we began looking for the best layout for our family of 12. We found a master br w bath, 2 queen br w shared bath, a kids room w 2 bunk beds...... upstairs. But where was the 5thbr? Either on the first floor in the piano room or in the basement????

Day 1 was a disappointment because the "heated" pool was in the 70's. When we contacted the owner he said he controlled the temp remotely and would warm it up. The 80's arrived 5 days later on Thursday but promptly left on Saturday after the pool people came on Friday. Another pool person arrived Monday and heat returned again until Friday when the 70 's returned.

Bottom line the place is big but poorly maintained. We had a grill fire the second day because the grill was filthy and full of grease. The owner's son came and cleaned it. We ran out of gas the 4th day and I had to go to the store to get a tank filled... no spare. The garbage disposal was broken so a repairman had to be called. The sound system was non functional. Location on the bay was lovely and we did take a canoe ride and saw dolphins. The beach was 2 miles away but there was limited parking and no spaces available after 9am. If we were renting for 30 or more days then we could have gotten a "resident" permit with plenty of parking.... but we were only 2weeks.

So if you don't mind renting a work in progress this is the place for you. The kids got a kick out of diving for the pool tiles that seemed to fall off periodically....too bad.

Beautiful view, opulent home!

  • 5 of 5

My experience at this amazing home was so relaxing and exquisite. Staring with the breathtaking view that greets you as you walk in to the relaxing atmosphere of this beautiful home. It has every convenience of home and beautiful, opulent interiors. It was the best sleep I have had in years. I don't know what is on those beds, so comfortable! Master shower has body jets and rain head and a relaxing spa tub. I can't say enough wonderful things about this house. You will leave relaxed and rejuvenated! Loved it!

Better than

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I first stayed at Sola Gratia in 2013 with our two children and another family, and ever since we have been counting the days until we could come back to this wonderful, enchanting corner of Marco Island, and to this perfect vacation home. When I announced to the kids that we were headed back to Sola Gratia this spring, you wouldn't believe the excited cheering and shouting--they still tell me that was their best vacation ever. When we returned in April, I told my husband I was a little hesitant, though, because it's hard to duplicate the best ever, and maybe we shouldn't try. But when I opened the front door and took in that magnificent view of Barfield Bay, and saw the kids rushing past to get to the pool, I knew we had made the right decision, and I felt like I was home again.

Of course I could see that Joanne's personal touches hadn't changed--the fresh fruit in the kitchen, the fresh cut flowers in the bathroom, the chocolate truffles at the bedsides. She was anxious to see what I thought, though, since it has been a few years since we were here last, and she told me they have been busy this season with upgrades to the kitchen and updating the furniture and decor.

Joanne, all I can say is "Wow!" You've outdone yourself again. The beds are still the most comfortable I have ever slept on while traveling, the linens are heavenly, and the new look is just amazing. The house is immaculate and stocked with anything and everything we could want, the outdoor areas are so lovely and enjoyable, and we just love being tucked away in the most peaceful, lush corner of the island.

Thanks again for your gracious and personal attentiveness, and thanks again for sharing your lovely home with us this year--our family has made some wonderful memories there. As we were flying back home, I asked my son if this trip topped our last vacation in Marco. He laughed and said that he thought that it was a tie, but maybe we should come back next year for a tie-breaker.

Beautiful home for our big family

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 18 had a wonderful stay here. Everything was clean and well-kept. We had 8 grandchildren who absolutely loved the beautiful pool and fun zipline. We would highly recommend this home to everyone. The owner was easily accessible and responsive to all our requests. Thanks again for a wonderful vacation home!!

Wonderful vacation home.

  • 5 of 5

Sola Gratia is a wonderful vacation home. Beautifully decorated, very spacious, clean and comfortable for our large family. The sunrise view of the bay from the master balcony is breathtaking. The pool area is amazing. Lots of space for those seeking either sun or shade. The owners were very helpful and easy to deal with. Our family has been coming to Marco Island for over 20 years and this was the most enjoyable, fun, and relaxing time we've experienced. We can't wait to return to Sola Gratia!

Perched on a Calusa Indian shell mound, Sola Gratia Estate commands sweeping views of Barfield Bay and the 10,000 Islands beyond. On the property guests may choose to just disappear into the tranquility of the protected acreage.while swaying in a hammock, enjoying the tropical breezes as ibises and egrets wander by and bald eagles and osprey soar overhead. Or relax poolside, keeping an eye out for dolphin and manatee as they cruise the waters of Barfield Bay below. Feeling adventurous? Grab a kayak and explore the mangrove islands of the bay and Caxambas pass beyond, or bicycle through the lush, tropical landscaping of the winding lanes of the historic Indian Hills district which surrounds the estate.

Surrounded by such peace and tranquility, it is easy to forget that just minutes away is a palette of international restaurants and the exciting shops of Marco Walk, South Collier Boulevard and the Esplanade.
