There is a lovely screened porch on this end of the house that both of these bedrooms open onto which faces natural vegetation for privacy. With 1600 sq feet of living space, there's plenty of room to stretch out and maintain "Island Time!" There is also a 10 by 28 foot boat or motorhome storage area under the house with about an 11 foot clearance. Sorry, there are no hookups for electrical or plumbing for RV's or Campers. There is ample off street parking for four or more vehicles. In the back yard behind the RV parking bay is a "park-style" grill for those burgers and dogs after a long day at the beach! About Cliff Butler

Cliff has visited the area since his early childhood, first visiting St. George Island shortly after the bridge opened in 1965. He and Denise had their first date on the coast and relocated to the area in 1977 buying a bay front home across the bridge in Eastpoint. Their two daughters grew up enjoying the Island and the surrounding area. Throughout their professional lives, both Denise and Cliff have been active in many aspects of community life in this bit of heaven nicknamed, 'The Forgotten Coast'. As Denise likes to say, 'It was never the Forgotten Coast to us, it's home!'

Cliff Butler purchased this house in 2011

Why Cliff Butler chose St. George Island

The opportunity and benefits of owning a vacation rental home on St George Island came together at the right time as we were starting a new phase of our lives. It gives us the opportunity to share what we have enjoyed for so many years with our children, grandchildren, extended family, friends and others we have yet to meet. We plan to use a share of the profits to support nonprofits such as Rotary, Wounded Warrior Project and related organizations.

What makes this house unique

Observing gorgeous sunrises, sunsets as well as other related weather events are some of the most unique benefits that can be enjoyed while staying at our property. There are many other opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of our area from the beaches to our bay, river and forests. It's fun to watch all the creatures that make their home here. You do not need to even leave the deck to listen to and watch birds or to find the constellations in the night sky. No city lights dim the stars on the island. The home is newly tiled throughout. Open the windows on cool nights and listen to the surf!

Plenty of room and good location

  • 4 of 5

Thanks for allowing our family to stay at the Last Straw. The house was perfect for our family of eight! The dinner table with 8 chairs was great that everyone could sit together for dinners in. Open floor plan with kitchen, dining area, and family space next to each other was nice. Need to fix a few things with doors, dishwasher, and dryer to put over the top. Location was good, a little further away for grandma to walk so we loaded the car and drove 2 minutes and everyone piled out for a wonderful day on the uncrowded beautiful sand! Water was perfect for cooling off and laziness in and around. Used the grill twice and very convenient. Plenty of kitchen ware and dishes. Overall very happy with The Last Straw and St. George Island.

FOUR GENERATIONS @ THE LAST STRAW

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for all four generations staying! The beach was a short walk away and was beautiful. Everyone, ages 5 to 79, had a blast. It was comfortable, spacious and inviting. Sammy, from the management/rental agency, was fantastic!!! I could not have asked for more, especially since I only booked the house a week in advance!

needs some attention

  • 3 of 5

The bedrooms were decent size and the kitchen was certainly large enough for us to cook and serve ten people, but the house needs some updating. Also, there are obvious nail heads sticking up on the porch. My grandson had a chunk of skin pulled back after stepping on one. The house also needs to have regular visits from an exterminator. We saw many large roaches which I realize are a problem in hot weather for any homeowner. The home across the street and on the corner from the house are definitely an eyesore. I'm surprised the island does not enforce some type of building code. The walk to the beach was not bad, especially since we all piled into the back of our truck and drove down. Many people rented golf carts on the island. The Black Marlin is a great place to eat fresh seafood!

Owner's Response: Hi DI! Thank you for your review of our home. While there are some things that are beyond our control such as the home being remodeled on the corner, we had the house treated after seeing this review and have changed pest control companies for continued regular service. Some of this is attributed to the rain driving bugs inside. We are considering what updates to do after the season and the house has come along way from what it was! Nails have been taken care of as well. I am so sorry about the issues you had during your stay with us. We hope you will consider us again in the future! Beach Blessings!

We enjoyed our vacation on SGI so much. Less commercialism--more beauty

  • 5 of 5

The Last Straw met all our needs for our vacation for 10! The kids and adults had ample room for sleeping and relaxing. The porches were loved a lot. The location to the beach and businesses was perfect. A repeat destination for certain.

Peaceful and more than we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Last Straw when we attended our nephew's wedding in May (14 to 19). At the last minute we decided we wanted to stay on St George Island where the wedding was taking place and found this home. This property was bigger than we needed for the two of us and it was well equipped with everything we needed. The kitchen had everything you would need to prepare meals for a large family and there was even a Keurig coffee maker so we didn't have to lug ours from home.... The house was very clean with televisions in the great room and in each bedroom and there was good internet access when we needed it. We were located a couple of blocks - walking distance - to the beach (Gulf side) or in the other direction, walking distance to the bay.

The weather was perfect that week and we enjoyed our stay. Because we were there before Memorial Day, there was no crowd and except for a little construction at a couple of nearby homes, there was no noise or disturbances.

We were a short drive to the SGI restaurants, shops, lighthouse and State Park and enjoyed visiting them and crossing the bridge back to Apalachicola to shops and restaurants there.

All in all it was a great location and a very comfortable home for our stay!

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

Totally enjoyed our stay at the last straw. The set up was ideal for our group. It was comfortable and the location was great, just a couple blocks to the beach.the kitchen had most things we needed including big pots and colander to cook lots of local seafood. We had some key issues but those were quickly resolved. Having a washer dryer was a definite plus but given the limited towels provided it was a must. I would suggest a couple extra towels for convenience. Throw rugs for inside the front door would be nice also to help cut down the sand factor. We stayed with our family pets which was also a big plus. The additional fee was reasonable.i think it would be nice to make it a deposit instead that could be returned if kept clean which we worked hard at, the only other concern was the oven. It would only go up to 280 temp wise but then cooked WAY higher than that and we had some early casualties as a result. Either a repair or a thermometer in the oven I think would be great. Overall I would absolutely stay again as would my family members!
