House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
We are a retired professional couple who love the natural beauty of God's creation & enjoy quiet relaxation, fishing, hiking, and travel. We remodeled our first home on Whidbey Island in 1975 and have built and remodeled number of in the Bellingham area and now again on Whidbey. This architecturally designed, well built built home is a true gem. It was a joy to revitalize it. In the process we added a touch of Cape Cod giving it a more cozy feel. The name Ranvik is Lisa's family name in Norway which means Bay of The Ravens. We appreciate art and architecture & this house offers some of both. Ranvik Beach House was designed by a Seattle architect in 1964 as a family vacation get-a-way at the height of the Mid-Century Modern era. He developed Admiral's Cove which includes a mile of beach. He had his choice of any building site on which to build his signature beach home. This site was selected for its outstanding orientation to all the breathtaking natural beauty and has the largest beach frontage of all the surrounding homes providing an extra measure of privacy. It is one of only 3 homes built by Sellen Construction (one other one on Whidbey & the Bill gates home!). They also built the Amazon headquarters in Seattle. The house reflects the state of the construction art at the time with a wonderfully timeless, very functional beach vacation home design. The interior is very unique with beveled ship-lap interior & exterior siding and many interesting, angular corners and spaces. Our total interior remodel in 2012 maintained the home's original, unique character while incorporating the convenience & comforts of a modern home. The tasteful update is in a cozy, bright, contemporary Scandinavian style. We continue to make small improvements as needed. Since completing the remodel in early 2012 we have found this to be a magical place for relaxation and enjoyment. It is our hope that you will have the same experience while staying here.

Why Lisa chose Coupeville
We lived on Whidbey Island years ago & have been coming back several times a year ever since. So we knew what a wonderful place it is . For several years we had been looking for a beach home to use as a get-away retreat for family and friends. We considering many areas we concluded the Coupeville / Keystone area. We discovered that this area offered unsurpassed natural beauty along with a wide variety of recreational opportunities. Coupling that with the fact that it has some of the best weather west of the Cascades and is easily accessible by car clinched it for us. Now that we have had this beach house for a number of years; we have no doubt that we made a great choice! This is truly a wonderful place where one can just totally relax. At the same time, if in the mood, there is a wide variety of fun, interesting activities only minutes out the door. We are confident you will enjoy it as much as our family does! 2018 update: Please read our reviews you will see that we're not the only ones who think this is a Magic Place. Over 100 Five Star reviews in less than 6 years with only a single 4 star rating! All our guests have been thrilled and so are we! We're confident you will be also.
What makes this House unique
There simply isn't a nicer, better located beach house in the Coupeville area! Ranvik Beach House is located in the Olympic rainshadow. The result is third less rain and 30% more sunshine than most of western Washington, Oregon and lower British Columbia. It is appropriately referred to as the 'Sunny Side of Whidbey'. Like to dine out? You are in luck as as Whidbey Island has been designated a state tourist 'Culinary Destination'! The close and very quaint towns of Coupeville and Freeland offer many excellent dining options from basic fare to gourmet dining. There is great shopping and spas for extra relaxation. Several wineries are close to the beach house with a wineries tour map available at the house. Having spent many years living Whidbey, we are very familiar with the Island and can assist you in gathering current information about tourist sites, outdoor activities, restaurants and special events on Whidbey Island. If your idea of vacation & relaxation involves physical activities such as walking on the beach, fishing, biking (road or mountain style), day hiking, golf, kite flying, diving, kayaking, boating, or swimming you will find a great place to do any of these within 15 minutes of the beach house. There is seasonal salmon and steelhead fishing from shore August - March. Ebey Historical Preserve, Fort Casey and other sites feature a wide variety of interesting places to explore. A near by public pool, basketball court, volleyball lawn an freshwater lake are within steps of the house and are available to guests. Area Accolades: Travel & Leisure’s Most Romantic Summer Destinations July 2010 issue featured Whidbey Island as one of their 16 picks world wide: “Though it’s a 20-minute ferry ride from the Seattle suburb of Mukilteo, this island oasis feels like the Pacific Northwest's last frontier... At times only one word is necessary to convey something well. Thanks!
I wish there were more adjectives...
...to accurately describe this place. We spent 4 days with family over Thanksgiving and could not have stayed in a more spectacular place: Incredible location, absolutely beautiful home, and the owners are super easy to work with. If you are traveling to the Northwest, make this a must-stay place.
Thank you for the wonderful review. It is especially meaningful coming from a couple that travels frequently and widely. Much appreciated.

Beach house vacation
We had an absolutely terrific time at Ranvik House. House was so comfortable and relaxing. Great kitchen to have many chefs work together. Views and beach were spectacular. Loved watching all of the ships. Dan and Lisa were very easy to work with. They were upfront about the jet activity and kept us informed as to flight times. We enjoyed seeing the jets even though quite loud. We will definitely return for another visit.
Thank you for taking the time to provide a glowing review of your stay. While we can't control the occasional jet activity, we always do try to let guests know if there will be overflights during their stay so they can plan accordingly. Like you, most seem to enjoy the "show". We look forward to your return from Maine!

We've stayed in several vacation rentals on Whidbey Island over the years, this is one of the best! The interior design is beautiful, eveything is clean and organized and every detail has been considered. The location is wonderful, too! A great place to enjoy time with family.
Thank you for staying at Ranvik and affirm our efforts to be "one of the best".

Vacation on Whidbey Island
We’re a little later than usual in posting our review, but it’s only because we’ve been searching for all of the superlative words we can find to describe our stay at the Ranvik Beach House! Where do we begin? To start, when we arrived and opened the door to the house, we were simply awestruck at the amazing views that greeted us. Expansive glass windows which revealed a breathtaking vista of Admiralty Bay and the Olympic mountains beyond were just the beginning of what turned out to be an extraordinary and unforgettable week. Lisa and Dan have thought of everything a guest could hope to have in their beautiful home. From the gourmet kitchen to the relaxing fire pit, the house is so well designed and furnished that we had a difficult time leaving every day to enjoy the many sights and wonders of Whidbey Island. We won’t spend any time describing the places we visited during our stay, but suffice to say that Whidbey Island is a wonderful place to get away from it all! That said, we couldn’t wait to get back to the house every day, find our comfy chairs on the deck, watch the sunset and just take in the unbelievable beauty that surrounded us. We’ve been fortunate to enjoy a number of different rental homes during our vacation travels, but the Ranvik Beach House far and away is at the top of our list - it’s a place we will gladly return to the next time our travels take us back to Whidbey!
