Our parents started coming to Stone Harbor in the early 1950s. Despite the bad weather on their first visit they fell in love with the island and soon bought a house. This current house tragically burnt down in 1981 and was rebuilt and designed in 1984 by one of our brothers, who has since made a name for himself in the passive solar building field. Having been raised in a family of seven children, we are now on the third generation using the house. My parents have passed but left us the house, hence the name Leg-A-Sea. We have been truly grateful to have it in the family and hope you get the chance to experience the feelings of togetherness and fun that we get when there.
We have many fond memories of spending summers in Stone Harbor and now continue to vacation here with our families. Stone Harbor is the perfect place for families and couples. Both the beach and the bay are in easy walking distance. The town features great restaurants, fine retail shops, miniature golf, and such classics as Fred's Tavern,The Pancake House, Springer's Ice Cream Shop, and featured in Diners Dives and Drive-Ins, Quahogs Seafood Shack.
This home at the southern New Jersey Shore has the perfect location, just several houses from the beautiful beach and a short five minute walk into the main street of Stone Harbor with its many shops and restaurants. Enjoy relaxing on one of the decks, in the sun-room, or just taking in the incredible views from the third floor cupola.
We loved this house for our Stone Harbor vacation! Our family of five plus grandma fit in four comfortable rooms with plenty of extra space for visiting aunts/uncles/cousins. Best things about this house: the ground floor deck off kitchen is ideal for outdoor gathering in the evenings and dinners. And of course the location! The beach is one easy block and town a short stroll or bike ride. Our kids love climbing up to the cupola to stargaze - or watch a lightening show! Owners are terrific.
This home was the first of its kind built on the island..passive solar. The house is listed in the town's recent book of historic sights; "Stone Harbor: 100 years At the Shore" because of this.
It is just a short walk to the charming Stone Harbor town with its many shops, movie theater and restaurants. Enjoy the many activities on both the beach and the nearby bay area. Visit the Stone Harbor Wetlands Institute and take walks on the beautiful beaches of Stone Harbor.
