Overview

About the property

3 BR house, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8), perfect for two couples and their kids.

This centrally located glassed-in house in the woods gives you access to private Lambert's Cove Beach! It is a 15 minute drive or less to nearly anywhere on Martha's Vineyard. The house is on 2 acres of woods, on a paved road, right next to 4000 acres of state forest. There are many public beaches all within 15 to 20 minutes drive as well, including Owen Park, Eastville Beach, and South Beach, a popular 'wave' beach. Or drive up-island to the beautiful clay cliff beach of Aquinnah or the fishing village of Menemsha. House has professional boat builder's touches throughout.

The house was designed so that the summer sun is kept out despite having a two story wall of glass in the main area of the house. The effect is that your eyes naturally drift off into the woods, where you come to recognize various birds and squirrels and where they live. It is very peaceful. The screened-in porch is a favorite for reading and bird watching. Two patios, a porch, a breakfast bar, and a regular sit-down table in the house provide many dining locations. There is a fully equipped, newly renovated, full-sized chef's kitchen, 1 full bathroom, a half bathroom, and an additional private shower. (We add that up to a total of two full bathrooms.)

The house is less than five minute's walk to the 4000 acre State Forest with bike paths connecting to most other bike paths on the island. Nearby places to bike (mostly on paths) include the State Forest, Tiah's Cove, the YMCA, Vineyard Youth Tennis, West Tisbury school playground and town tennis courts, Alley's and the Field Gallery, and just a bit further along are Long Beach, Lambert's Cove Beach and the town of Vineyard Haven. A 2 minute walk takes the kids to a terrific neighborhood baseball diamond, and a 10 minute bike ride gets you to a frisbie golf course in the State Forest.

We may allow a dog. The area is perfect for it, with the State Forest next door. Please inquire.

We provide 100% cotton linens.

We spend a lot of time aboard our sailboat 'Aurora' in Vineyard Haven Harbor during the summer and will usually be available by cell phone should the renter require anything.

Keywords: Centrally located home in woods along bike path, with access to beach passes (from the town of West Tisbury) to Lambert's Cove beach and Long Beach. Ball diamond & State Forest bike paths just yards away.

Why Alice Kyburg chose West Tisbury

We like peace and quiet and we like the outdoors. In this house we can get to know the wildlife we watch through the large glass windows and we can take daily walks in the nearby State Forest. We also appreciate having access to Lambert's Cove Beach, one of the nicest beaches on the island.

What makes this house unique

Access to Lambert's Cove beach, one of the nicest beaches on Martha's Vineyard. The easy access house is centrally located on the island, but offers privacy and immersion in nature.

All you need for casual stay on Island

  • 5 of 5

This was our 15 plus year to island, we have stayed in most of the towns and various rentals. This home fit our need perfectly. Everything was as expected, not fancy, but super functional for island vacation. Location was good for off beach location, easy access to all towns- without having to fight the July/Aug traffic to go anyway everytime. Great outdoor shower, laundry facilities, and kitchen - again super functional and clean. Owners where flexible to our unique needs with the ferry schedule, and arriving and departure. Will look to stay again!

Our Lovely Stay in West Tisbury

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd year renting the home and we enjoyed it even more than the first. The property is private and very quiet. It's conveniently located mid-island which affords easy access to bike trails to Edgartown and Oaks Bluff. The home has all amenities and Alice provided fresh eggs from the chickens in the back of the property. Property provides a step towards nature while providing all modern amenities. We hope to make renting this home an annual summer tradition visiting Martha's Vineyard.

Our August Week in West Tisbury

  • 5 of 5

I hope to come back to this house hopefully next summer. The location was ideally located in middle island and also near the forest giving us easy access to the bike lanes and privacy. The house was neat and clean when we arrived and furnished nicely with all the amenities like a grill, cable, etc. Each room had a fan, but some of us didn't even use them since it was cool enough in the evening. Alice made herself accessible to us if we needed her while we were there, but all went well. I'd recommend this house for a stay on a wonderful island.

Truly felt like home!

  • 5 of 5

I had a last minute work trip to Martha's Vineyard and was looking for somewhere on VRBO.

From the moment I saw this house on the website, I knew it was going to be amazing! From the first phone conversation with the owner, the whole experience was beyond perfect! We rented the house for two weeks for a work trip to the island. Not only did the owner allow us to check in at 8am, but she was beyond accomodating throughout our entire trip!

The house is located down a long dirt driveway off a road that has very little activity. Looking at a map, I didn't realize how isolated the property would be and expected airport noise. The only noise I heard was the sound of roosters on a neighboring property! The location could not have been more perfect! The yard features are endless, from the bench swing in the yard to the little bridges over rock gardens. I spent so much time just taking pictures of the beautiful yard!

The house goes on forever! We didn't rent the rear apartment because there was already so much house but loved that we felt that we were just alone in the middle of the woods, yet so close to everywhere we wanted to go on the island.

From the minute we walked in the door, the house truly felt like home! It didn't have the typical signs for renters posted all around to remind us someone else had just rented. It was so relaxing! Upstairs has two bedrooms and is a great escape from the main living area. It is much larger than I expected for a 3-bedroom. The layout makes it feel even larger. The screen porch with vaulted ceilings was perfect for morning coffee, evening wine and lounging!

The living room has vaulted ceilings and a huge wall of windows. The knotty pine details throughout the house were great. Outside off of the open porch is a door to the shower room, which has a skylight and dramatically high ceilings as well. It was perfect!

After a week and a half, we decided to extend our stay and added a third week. The owner was more than accomodating! She was always available if needed, yet never present like some owners are....There were so many features, we didn't even use one of the decks in the three weeks we were there! We plan to come back again next year and hopefully rent for a month so book your weeks in advance before we steal them! As building inspectors, we see hundreds of houses on-island each year and this is the one that we will choose every year! Great house, great owner and amazingly relaxing experience!

Owner's Response: We love to hear that we're doing thing right! We are certainly trying. Two small "corrections" might help future renters, however: 1. The house is not as huge as the reviewer makes it sound -- it is a modest three bedroom house. It has various outdoor areas to discover, however, and that is probably what the reviewer was referring to when she said the house "goes on and on." 2. While there is a rooster who lives on the next street over who can be heard faintly most mornings, he is far enough away that there is no chance of anyone being woken up by him. He is merely a distant reminder that you are in a very quiet, peaceful area of the island.

Great Time!!

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from our vaction 8/10/12-8/17/12 I have to say it was one of the best vacations we have had in many years. This is a great house to relax, very quiet and secluded from the busy traffic of OB and Edgartown. It has a great yard, great decks very nice to relax after a long day at the beach. It has a great central location easy ride to vineyard haven very easy ride to my new favorite restaurant called state road witch I highly recommend if you plan on visiting the island just make sure you book a reservation a few days in advance. The owners were super super nice always got right back to me with answers to any questions I had. Thanks again Alice

I recommend this house I know we will be back next year
