Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

A Craftsman Style Cottage, ideally located on the Virginia Creeper Trail and in Historic Abingdon, is an elegant Cottage filled with eclectic and antique furnishings. Entering the Cottage you are greeted by a beautiful marble gas-log fireplace topped by a Vermont stone mantle. Complimenting the fireplace are handsome, twin handmade cabinets hiding the HD television.

The stunning, architectural archway , salvaged from a local 1800's house, divides the living and dining areas. The kitchen with its granite countertop and handmade, cherry glass-front cabinets, invites you to whip up your favorite pasta recipe. Be sure to check the intriquely woven cherry backsplash that matches the cabinets. A whimsical Betty Boop cookie jar sits on a shelf. The open sun-filled dining area, with its brightly striped wicker couch, invites you to sit and talk to the 'chef'.

On a warm evening, you can enjoy your meal by dining al fresco on the outdoor patio.

The downstairs toile linen bedroom with a queen size bed has its own bath with a tile walk-in shower and heated ceramic floor.

Wind your way up the stairs, to a quiet sitting area that is a perfect spot to curl up on a rainy day with one of the good books available.

The master suite, filled with antique furniture and an Oriental rug, is decorated in refreshing blues, yellows and greens, making it a cozy romantic hideaway. The master bath has a 7 foot Jacuzzi as well as a marble heated floor and marble walk-in shower. An antique dresser is filled with accessories and fluffly, soft towels.

The iron glider on the front porch affords a great view of the Applachian Mountains in the distance and overlooks the Creeper Trail.

About Charlene

Bill and I started this Cottage in 2007. When we bought it, it was a wood frame house sitting on dirt with 7' ceilings and moldy paneling. Bill stripped it down to the frame, added additional rooms and raised the ceilings. We rewired, replumbed and reroofed and everything else that goes with rebuiding a house!

And we both have full-time careers! Bill is a class A contractor and had a wonderful vision of what this was going to look like! Me, kept seeing $ signs and hearing ka-ching every time we went to Lowes. And we finally finished and furnished it this year! Hooray!!

Charlene purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Charlene chose Blue Ridge Highlands

We bought this property the same time we bought 344 Gibson Street. We love the Virginia Creeper Trail, Abingdon and the Barter Theatre. We want everyone who comes to visit , to think about what a great place this is and consider moving here. The weather has 4 seasons which are relatively mild and there is a lot to do here all year round.

What makes this cottage unique

I love the heated bathroom floors. They are to die for even in the summer! We have entertained friends here for dinner. It is perfect with the couch and kitchen chairs for everyone to sit and socialize while we were cooking.

The couch is very comfy. I curled up with an afghan on an ugly snowy day with the fireplace on and fell asleep!

Great Ladies Reunion

  • 5 of 5

My wife and her former High School friends met here for a stay in Abingdon. I chose this cottage for them because of the convenient location and the obvious vintage and classic style of house. They said that the interior was clean, charming, functional and comfortable. It was a wonderful girl get-away for them and my wife desires to make return trip for another stay - with me ! Abingdon is such a wonderful place to visit - especially when you have such great and convenient places to stay such as this cottage.

Felt private in the heart of downtown

  • 5 of 5

Our family was visiting Abingdon to celebrate our daughter's birthday. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Craftsman Cottage! The accommodations were impeccable, beautifully furnished with thoughtful design details, such as luxuriously heated bathroom floors, a well-equipped kitchen and a gorgeous craftsman architectural archway. We appreciated all of the windows allowing us to watch the snow fall while we enjoyed the fire. The cottage's location felt private in the heart of downtown and was perfect for dining at great restaurants and visiting the Barter.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that your daughter's birthday was spent at our Cottage and in Abingdon! It was a perfect weekend to sit by the fireplace, watch it snow and see the menagerie of animals in the backyard. Private, yet in historic Abingdon. Hope you will return in the summer to see more plays st Barter Theatre.

We had a Blast!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cottage for a long weekend with my wife without the kids. Like most people have said, this place is convenient to everything. The cottage was awesome. The pictures of the place are spot on. It was very cozy, nice amenities, fireplace was great, and we cooked out on the back patio. My wife loved the heated floors in the bathroom. We would definitely stay here again. Perfect place for two couples and heck, may even bring the kids next time. Thanks Charlene for sharing your place and all the hospitality..

Wonderful, relaxing stay!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 had a wonderful time at this cottage! We were so close to all that we needed to bike or walk to - including restaurants, the Virginia Highlands Festival, and the Virginia Creeper Trail, and a bike shop just a block away that gave us a ride to the top of the trail. We spent our first night mostly inside the cottage because we found it so homey and welcoming. We spent a second night inside tending to our sore muscles after riding the full VCT. It was so great to ride the trail and have "home" be right at the end waiting for us. We enjoyed every minute of our stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review! We welcome you into our home. The antiques, paintings, and "stuff" are things we have taken from our house and brought it to our Cottage to make it a home for our guests. So glad you enjoyed the proximity to the trail and to town.

My Favorite Place to Stay in Abington!

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay at this beautiful cottage was absolutely wonderful!! My best friend and her husband shared it with us and it is perfectly designed to accommodate 2 couples. Owner Charlene was quick to respond to my phone calls/emails during the easy rental process and had fresh flowers and zucchini bread waiting for us in the kitchen when we arrived. We especially loved the plush bedding, spa-like bathrooms and gas log fireplace (especially when it snowed on Saturday morning!). The view from the front porch and upstairs was simply gorgeous and the location could not have been more convenient. We were able to walk to the Barter Theater, restaurants, shopping and Wolf Hills Brewery. I can't say enough good things about this cottage and have already recommended it to several friends/family members. We will definitely be back; hopefully for a longer stay!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review! We try to make this Cottage your home away from home. One of the best things about visiting our Cottage is the location in historic Abingdon, you can park your car and not need it until it's time to leave. In the winter or on a cool night, it is so pleasant to snuggle up and enjoy the fireplace.

Perfectly Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful cottage during Thanksgiving week and found it to be just wonderful. It has been beautifully re-furbished and furnished with high end fixtures and appliances and the heated bathroom floors are amazing. It is tucked away in a little corner of town that afforded a nice view and easy access to all things Abingdon ( Creeper Trail, Barter Theater, restaurants, etc ). The owners were attentive and accommodating and we will definitely stay there again. We recommend it without hesitation. Dan
