Condo not good but resort great!

The condo needs to be remodeled, it was old and not in good conditions. All the people from the bahia mar resort were very nice and polite. The manager of the condo, Maggie was very friendly, made our check-in easier and kept communicating with us efficiently.

The beach, the pool and the facilities were great! I will definitely return to the Bahia Mar condos but to a different property.

Never Again

First impression when I pulled up to the guard gate was horrible. Apparently the property is under new management (not the individual condo, but now I know why it is for sale). My excitement was completely deflated... The first thing said to me was "were you told that there is a $5 dollar fee for each wristband?" I told them "no". I immediately text my contact for the condo and asked if there was supposed to be a fee...she responded "no", but 10 minutes later, she responded "yes". Fine...$40 later on top of what I already had paid to stay here. I advised the gaurd that my parents were staying at the KOA at the island and that they would be coming over to join us at the beach and so forth, but were not staying in our unit. He said that was fine, that we could get "guest wristbands" at no charge. When it came down to it, the manager stepped in and said "NO" that my parents (who are in their 70's) could not come on the property, that I had met my max capacity. When I read my lease agreement, the max capacity was for the condo, my parents were not staying in the condo. I was told that I needed to go drop my parents off at a public entrance and they would have to walk to where we were if they wanted to join us on the beach. Ridiculous...We aren't "spring breakers"!! None of these "new rules" are disclosed on any of the lease agreements provided to me before or after I decided to rent from the Bahai Mar. Someone had disposed of crabs/fish or something smelly in the trash below the stairs of the unit. We had to dump it after the second day because of the smell. The landscaping is beautiful, lots of grass, but the mosquitos were horrific. Maybe they could use some of that armband money to treat for mosquitos. Now for the unit. It was dirty. I had to scrub the stove prior to using it. The large bedroom smelled like moth balls. There was a door in that room that went to a separate staircase that was not very secure (I had my 3 year old grandson with us and was scared he would go out that door). Randon items were just thrown in closets and cabinets. There were patched up holes in the doors, and the floors were dirty. Half of the outlets in the unit did not work. But we made the most with what we had but in the end, I was very disappointed.

Stay away

Only good good about this condo is a location and that's it. First of all there is no one you can talk about any issues. The lady said she does not know anything and to call someone else. Owner is super rude and unapproachable you can't talk with him. Condo is old and dated. Cracks on the walls,balkony doors couldn't open, sheets were not changed when we moved comforter it was hair and sheets were not clean you could see that someone was sleeping there.not enough seating on that old and dirty sofa. Out of four tv's two of them worked. Light bulbs in rooms were not working.I was waken in the middle of the night by roaches on the bad crawling on me. Rent some other place this is way overpriced for the quality you get.

Property grounds were very well kept and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Overall was great stay. We did have some issues with initial check in due to front desk and gate not showing reservation for the dates we were staying and being first time users of VRBO left a poor impression and that there are some major issues with how website and owners are working together. The pool was extremely clean and well kept except for a few boards that would pop up when stepping on the them next to the hot tub. My wife almost fell when stepping on one when first arriving at pool. The grounds were well kept as extremely clean. I understand that the climate on the coast is sometimes unforgiving on buildings but the exterior of the buildings on the property could use some updating and TLC. Our condo was spacious and had great view of the beach and was clean. Again, understand older condo complex but condo needed some serious TLC. All doors were extremely hard to open and close. There were holes in wall of master bedroom along with cracks in Sheetrock throughout space. Some of the lights didn't work. The cable tv did not work in all rooms and cable box in living room was not even connected. I reconnected and got it working but remote did not work. The fan in upstairs bathroom did not work entire stay until last day and for some reason just came on and would not go off. Tried every light switch could find to turn it for. Door on frig was loose and top shelf almost fell out when putting in our groceries. The hot water, when taking a shower, does take a while to come through but no big issue there. The whole space could use a deep clean top to bottom. And finally the whole space needs to be painted: walls, ceiling, baseboards, cabinets, spiral staircase. It would definitely help update and freshen the space up. I hope these suggestions will be taken into consideration and hopefully corrected for future renters. We did have a great time staying in the condo, as well as the property itself.

Family Fun!!

We just love the Bahia Mar. This is our 3rd year coming so I feel like I need to share. We have rented this condo for the last 3 years and we just love it! We have enough room for 2 families. This year we came with my brother and his kids. What a blast we all had. We try and get together once a year since we live in different states. This year we decided to go on vacation together instead of just the holidays. We had so much fun that we will be doing this again for a 4th year!!

Great Location--Great Amenities--Great Owner

Thanks to Al and Maggie for making us feel so welcome and our stay so enjoyable. Everyone loved it and had a good time. It fit the seven of us perfectly. Awesome location. I wanted to give props to Maggie, the manager—I locked us out on Friday night and she came all the way from her house(45 minutes) and brought a key to get us in around 10:30 pm. She was very nice when she could have acted put out. It's awesome to be right there at the beach and on South Padre everything is close to you. Also the Bahia Mar complex has gated security so it is more private than most places. Al, the owner was great and very friendly. He made the rental very easy and was very helpful in explaining everything. We had never stayed in a condo before when we came here and we will for sure be staying in this condo from now on.

I highly recommend staying in Al's unit if you are visiting South Padre Island.
