The apartment is located on the third floor (US fourth) of a late nineteenth-century building with elevator. It overlooks the trees and elongated park of boulevard Richard-Lenoir. All rooms have high ceilings, moldings, wood floors and large double-pane windows. What made us fall in love immediately with the apartment when we bought it ten years ago was the light. We also love the location, the proximity to very diverse neighborhoods that can be endlessly explored.
The front door opens onto a spacious entryway with a large bookcase. The living room and study/bedroom have balconies facing the boulevard and a Western exposure. The living room is furnished mostly with antiques : a dining room table and six chairs, three armchairs, an armoire, a crystal chandelier, a Turkish rug and some smaller furniture, as well as a small folding couch that sleeps one. The bedroom, which opens onto a small quiet courtyard, has a double bed, a desk, a dutch stove and three closets. The third room, which was set up as a study, has a desk, two single beds, a closet, and two rugs.
The kitchen was entirely renovated by an architect two years ago, with custom-made cabinets and a breakfast table where we eat our meals when we don't have guests. It is fully equipped with new machines: stove, oven, microwave oven, dishwasher, washer dryer, food processor, coffee maker, etc. The bathroom has a tub and shower. The apartment is equipped with full telephone, internet and cable television service. Calls to the US, Canada, and Europe are free.

The apartment is on Boulevard Richard Lenoir, a tree-lined avenue which was built over part of the famous Canal Saint Martin. From the apartment, you can take a walk along the uncovered portion of the canal, with its picturesque bridges and locks. The building is midway between the Place de la Bastille and the Place de la République and is close to three subway stations. It is a safe neighborhood.
There are two open markets, Bastille and Popincourt, both a few minutes away on Boulevard Richard Lenoir: The Bastille market, one of the largest in Paris, is very popular with local inhabitants and tourists alike. The beautiful Place des Vosges, the Picasso Museum, and the historic and fashionable Marais neighborhood are within easy walking distance, as are the Winter Circus and the Coulée Verte (an elevated 5-km park comparable to New York's High Line). The Pompidou Center is about a half-hour walk or a short subway or bus ride away. In the same area, the Hotel de Ville plaza turns into a free skating rink in winter. Longer walks will take you to the famous Père Lachaise cemetery, the Buttes Chaumont park, or to the Seine and the Left Bank.
