Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
Aunt Dot's Cottage is the best of both worlds - so easy to get to about an hour north of Milwaukee just off Hwy 43, but a hidden treasure, 'a world apart,' when you arrive. There are many things to do in this area, but playing on the private beach is the hands down favorite. Aunt Dot's accommodates 6 overnight guests, and is charming by all accounts. We welcome you from Sunday to Sunday during high season and for 3 nights or more up until mid June and after Labor Day. It feels restful the minute you walk in the door. The atmosphere invites you to reconnect with play, read and ponder, catch your breath and enjoy life. Leave busyness behind for a week or so! There are 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a kitchen ready to use, and a nice living room with a beautiful stone fireplace, well-stocked bookshelves, comfy leather furniture and a picture window overlooking Lake Michigan. The kitchen has that quaint cottage feel but provides a totally up to date gas stove and full size frig, plus a little desk to plug in your computer, fire up the WIFI, and check your email while sipping your morning coffee. The view from the master bedroom upstairs is wonderful, especially if you're fortunate enough to be here on a full moon night.
This room offers a comfortable king size bed and space to relax. The back bedroom upstairs can be made up with twin beds or a king - to accommodate a couple or a couple of kids! Downstairs, the bedroom is furnished with antique twin beds that reflect our local Dutch heritage. Outdoors, we have a canoe and kayaks, beach toys and chairs for your use. (Sorry, we don't allow personal watercraft.) Grill out on the patio - build a fire on the beach to roast marshmallows on a still night - enjoy the wonder of the star filled sky. Additional guests are welcome with prior arrangements. It is our desire though to assure a restful cottage atmosphere and provide the same for our neighbors, so if you would like to have more than the 6 daytime or overnight guests that Aunt Dot's is designed for, please let us know, and be aware that it may include an extra charge.
Most people who come hate to leave the cottage, but there are some great places to explore if you want an excursion. Kohler with its lovely golf courses, restaurants, and 'Shops at Woodlake,' is just 15 minutes away; Elkhart Lake and its exciting Road America races is within 30 minutes; Plymouth on the way there is known for antiques; nearby Sheboygan has much to explore, a great waterfront with restaurants and shopping, and Kohler-Andrae State Park with beautiful hiking on the sand dunes; our own little Oostburg just up the street has groceries, a fabulous bakery, a laundromat and restaurants; the Milwaukee Zoo or Harley-Davidson Museum make a fun-filled day in the city; and if you've come from afar to Wisconsin and want to take a day trip to our reknowned vacation destination, Door County is just 2 hours north of us. All fun, but really, most of our guests say nothing beats the unhurried life on this private beach! We hope you'll try it - we look forward to being your hosts.

About Sandi Rowe
Hi -we're Lynn & Sandi (you get to guess who's who!) and we own Aunt Dot's cottage. We actually live next door, so when you're here, you're our guests. Hospitality and sharing our love for this place is something we enjoy. We won't invade your privacy, but we're here to answer any questions or meet what needs we can. We have a sales business, and our office is in our home - sometimes you'll see our lights on, burning the midnight oil. We're always good for a wave, a joke, or that cup of sugar you might need to borrow.
Why Sandi Rowe chose Sheboygan County
Lynn's Aunt Dot actually bought this cottage in the 1930s so it has been a beloved place in our family for...ever. Aunt Dot transformed it along the way to have running water and a shower. We still enjoy fussing over the place, and try to do something each year to upgrade and maintain it without changing the character of the cottage. This year, it was new windows - they look beautiful!
What makes this Cottage unique
Not unique, but truly remarkable - those waves have been rolling in for centuries, the sun rises every morning, the moon trail and stars no artist could duplicate, the quiet renews your senses, and you know God is in His heaven when you're here. The summer is idyllic, the winter is awesome.

Great rustic well appointed 1930 cottage/cabin right on Lake Michigan
Our family had a wonderful relaxing time. The sounds and views of the lake and woods were phenomenal.
This is a wonderful, authentic "cabin" by the Lake. It was equipped with every modern convenience a person could ask for.
It was pristine inside and out. Not a dust bunny or grain of sand to be found inside.
The linens and quilts were clean and fresh and BEAUTIFUL!!
Sandi and Lynn were gracious hosts and shared some of the history of the cabin with us. They live on the lake full time and are very knowledgeable about the lake, it's depths etc..
One of our favorite things was watching them row a tandem kayak so gracefully and effortlessly.....It was like a dance.....The kayaks and canoes are also available for use.
While a lot of the sandy beaches along the Lake are receding this property had a wonderful PRIVATE sand beach and area for camp fires near the lake, just a short 10 or 12 steps from our back door.
The lakeside patio off of the screened porch was where we spent most of our time. The lake is RIGHT THERE!
The master bedroom has a view like no other. The waves are right outside your window to lull you to sleep at night and to wake up to in the morning. I believe I mentioned the wonderful bedding and quilts previously but they were so fresh and clean and WARM!!
Don't forget your sweatshirt......its chilly in the morning and at night......
Thank you Sandi and Lynn for sharing Dot's cabin.........We will be back!!
It is worth noting also the cabin has a substantial interesting Library of books and free Netflix..Good wi fi coverage also.
We had a great time with our family at this lovely lake cottage. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
Very misleading reviews
I don't know where to start. The first thing you notice is the smell of the house, it is a very stale smell that we assumed would go away but never did. There are fans in every room. we figured out that was to get the air to circulate and lessen the odor. The only shower is on the main floor and the window, which looks into the neighbors front yard, has a very sheer curtain. The shower is so narrow that you cannot raise both arms to shampoo nor dry yourself off before you step out. There is no curtain on the front door, so look into your other neighbors yard while in the family room. The curtain in the master bedroom upstairs has a two foot gap. Yes, it looks out over the lake, but there is a strip of beach that peopled walked every morning we where there. The doors on the bedrooms stuck and rubbed the floor so bad that you couldn't close them for privacy without making such a load noise that it was disturbing to other people in the house. The floor in the bedroom upstairs felt like you were on a suspension bridge every time you took a step. The overall feel of the cottage is dark and depressing, even the throw pillow and blanket are brown or cream. I feel like the pictures shown had to be photographed with a very bright light. No feeling of privacy whats so ever. There was an iron spider on the fireplace for decoration. I guess it went along with the moth and butterfly collection on the ceiling in the family room. A little creepy to say the least. Husband has a major bug phobia! There are several fire extinguishers in the house but not a single smoke detector. The beach is not private but shared with at least 5 other cottages. On the positive side, the bed was very comfortable and the water temp and pressure was great. We wish there was a guest book that shared peoples comments about things to do and places to eat in the immediate area. We had a great breakfast at Judi's in Oostburg and would like to have been able to suggest it to other guests. I have to mention the smell again, it really was overpowering. We have used VRBO for over 5 years and this is our first unfavorable review.
I’m sorry to hear this couple did not enjoy the cottage, but truthfully neither the reviews nor the description are misleading. This is a classic lake cottage, log on the outside, wood on the inside, exactly as pictured and described as a step back in time with up to date amenities such as the good mattresses, good kitchen appliances, Wi-Fi, a Roku box on the TV, new windows. We have had a lot of rain this season, so the wood does swell a bit with the humidity, but I have asked the current guests if there is any musty or stale odor and they deny that. I questioned my cleaning assistant, who describes herself as having a nose like a bloodhound, and she too says there was no objectionable odor in the cottage. Things we do to make sure it’s fresh and clean are spend 4 hours cleaning between guests every time, send our bed linens out to the cleaners so they’re clean and pressed, and we’ve installed a modern ozone filter system to assure that the water is always fresh and odor free. We do actually have two smoke detectors – one at the top of the stairs, one by the kitchen, with fresh batteries just last month. Though we have done updates we have intentionally preserved the classic cottage details, because this is not a condo or a waterfront Marriott with identical suites, rather a charming cottage that encourages leaving the fast lane behind for awhile. Most who choose it are looking for that time out and love it. I had the privilege to visit the Reagan Ranch, and noted that he had the same shower stall as we do at Aunt Dot’s – except the shower head looked like the Liberty Bell!- anyway he was a pretty good sized guy and that was the shower he used in his favorite place. We love sharing the 190 feet of lakefront we own, and we do mention our neighbors in our description – though the beach isn’t public, the 4th of July holiday is a time when people have company and walking at the water’s edge is part of the enjoyment here. The bedroom curtains do close- the rods are designed to extend as you draw them across and perhaps that went unnoticed. The fans of course are for cooling since we don’t have air conditioning – though usually Lake Michigan provides a nice cooling breeze. It’s our desire to provide the nicest cottage atmosphere we can so that our guests can stop and enjoy the natural beauty of the Lake and the woodlands, the sunrise, the moon, the waves, even the rain.
This place was perfect for our family to enjoy the beaches of Lake Michigan! We have four small children and they loved the house and the private beach. My husband took the kids out in the canoe and they all thought it was awesome! We would definitely come back!
So nice to hear. We are so glad your family had a nice time - that's what a vacation at Aunt Dot's is all about, finding a special place and having fun together! We look forward to having you back.
Wonderful family getaway!
We enjoyed this beautiful rustic cabin which had all the amenities we needed to make our stay fun and comfortable! We spent lots of time on the beach with our three kids and loved the campfires by the lake!
