Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Our casita is located in the neighborhood of Taos known as Canon, a charming agrarian community that is in close proximity to downtown Taos. You can spend the day skiing, going to museums, the plaza, the Taos Pueblo, The Rio Grande gorge, white water rafting, gallery hopping and fine dining; then retreat to your hideaway for replenishment.. If tomorrow you desire a more mellow day, walk out the door into the Carson National Forest, set up your easel. or enjoy a few hours in our organic garden.

The casita, situated on two beautiful acres, is a one bedroom (queen size Tempurpedic mattress)/ one bath with a fully provisioned kitchen and lovely living room. It is tastefully appointed with many pieces of art by local artists. The floors in the bedroom are Saltillo tile and the living area has warm wood floors.

Although we list our casita as sleeping 2 people, we probably could accommodate a young child.

Keywords: 1 bedroom casita, wonderfully appointed, 1.5 miles east of the plaza and bordering the national forest, organic garden for your appreciation. Equidistant to both Angel Fire and Taos Ski Valley. If serenity is your cup of tea, you can fill it here.

About The Owner

We have lived in Taos for 30+ years and in this location since 1986. I am a designer/ builder and built the casita you will be staying in as well as the main house. I am an afficianado of architecture, especially of the indigenous architecture of Northern New Mexico and try to hold true to that essence in my building projects.

My wife, Melissa, is a master gardener, basket maker and all around artist whose canvas is life. She is also a very humble person who will probably think that I am embellishing her a bit much. I'll let you be the judge.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1986

Why The Owner chose New Mexico

Our property is in close proximity to the heart of Taos and near the Carson National Forest. We are located equidistantly From Taos Ski Valley and Angel Fire Ski Resort (approximately 20 miles). Taos Country Club(open to the public) is eight miles South.

What makes this cottage unique

If a peaceful retreat is what you are after then come to our casita. We are at the end of a dead end road that is near the Carson National Forest ( great year round hikes). In the summer months we have bountiful garden. My wife and I are long term residents of Taos and love to share what we appreciate about Taos and the surrounding areas.

Delightful in every way

  • 5 of 5

I stayed with Melissa and Ed for the month of June while I was looking for an apartment in Taos. Everything about being at the Casita was wonderful. It is immaculately clean, beautifully and creatively decorated, with a wonderful bed, in a seemingly "rural" pastoral setting that was actually 5 minutes from the Plaza. Melissa and Ed could not have been more perfect hosts. I had plenty of privacy as the Casita is set a bit away from their home yet they were there to help me on a number of occasions when I needed it. Melissa's gift of cookies was a true treat in every way as she was once a professional baker. I didn't want to leave -- it made house hunting a very difficult task when each day I compared to being at the Casita Deluxe! Thank you both. XOXO

Spacious Casita in a Beautiful Setting, with Friendly Hosts

  • 5 of 5

First, thanks to Ed and Melissa for making us feel welcome and for providing us with lots of information about Taos and environs (as well as cookies and coffee and veggies).

Adjacent to Carson National Forest, their 2-acre property is only a couple of miles from Taos Plaza. The adobe cottage, next to one of their extensive gardens, is quiet, beautiful and spacious. Quite roomy for two people, the casita has a fully-equipped kitchen, a comfortable sitting room, spacious bedroom and closets, and a full bathroom. (And with a small laundry room, with washing machine, to boot.)

This was our first visit to Taos, and thanks to our hosts' suggested itinerary, we truly enjoyed becoming acquainted with the town and nearby surroundings in our brief, three-day visit. We hiked trails along the rim of the Rio Grande gorge and up to Williams Lake adjacent to the Taos Ski area, visited Taos Pueblo, strolled the area around old Taos plaza, and enjoyed several of the wonderful art museums located here.

We hope to return to Taos someday, and we hope we'll be able to stay again in Ed and Melissa's cottage.

Relaxing and Renewing

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful time we had staying in the Casita. After our trek from OK, it was pleasant to be greeted by Ed and Melissa, who were quite welcoming and helpful with information about Taos and the area. We appreciated their recommendations regarding particularly good dining spots and the useful details only locals can give you about the tourist sights. The Casita was comfortable and clean, we slept well on the supportive mattress and found the casita to be well equipped for our cooking needs. It was just the right size for a couple. We have highly praised the Casita and its location to our friends and family. Our intention is to return for more relaxation and see more Taos sights. If you go don't miss the Pueblo, the Plaza, Taos Inn(Adobe Bar), Harwood Museum, St Francis Asis Church and a trek in the Carson National Forest.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a quiet getaway, and that is exactly what we found! Melissa and Ed live on site and were so accommodating...even offered us anything we wanted from the two fabulous gardens on site. They could not have been nicer, and the property is incredible. It is close enough to town to be within minutes of everything but has a rural feel to it. It was so quiet at night, all we could hear was an occasional coyote or dog in the distance. We would definitely stay again!

last minute trip to Taos

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided last minute to visit Taos on the way to Albuquerque. Ed responded quickly to our indication of interest in their cottage which helped us make a decision. Upon arrival both Ed and Melissa greeted us. The cottage was fantastic. Had every thing we needed to relax. Melissa is an awesome gardener and encouraged us to help ourselves. She even helped us harvest enough greens and vegies to make an awesome salad. We are glad we decided to make a last minute stop in Taos and would highly recomend Ed and Melissa's cottage. PS: the zucchini bread Melissa made was wonderful.

Map

Although our property is on Brehl Lane, we do not enter on Brehl Lane but use the driveway 120' to the west(closer to town) called Baca Lane. Go down Baca Lane almost to the end and you will see old farm implements and a sign that says Ranchito Deluxe. Turn right there.
