Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

All you will hear are the birds in this serene desert home and walled garden,--your own oasis. This beautiful owner-built pueblo-style home opens out into beautiful vistas in all directions. Walk to the front porch and enjoy the walled garden full of cactus, desert plants, fruit tree, herbs and (in season) vegetables. Go through the french doors off the bedroom and enjoy the private outdoor shower and bathtub nestled into the side of 'Coyote Hill'.

Just a six-minute drive from the entrance of the Joshua Tree National Park, and ten-minutes from the shops and restaurants of the 'village' of Joshua tree, you will feel like you are just where you want to be. Nestled into the foothills of the Little San Bernardino Mountains, this sparsely populated neighborhood boasts of wonderful walks, hikes and wildlife viewing opportunities, right here.

You will enjoy the fully appointed kitchen, beautifully furnished master bedroom and bath with unique interior stucco walls, and many other handbuilt touches. It is kept sparkling clean by Piper who owned a bed and breakfast in Hawaii for seven years, and currently helps take care of several other vacation rentals in the area.

About Piper McKern

I fell in love with the quiet beauty of Joshua Tree while traveling in 2002, and never looked back.

Piper McKern purchased this house in 2004

Why Piper McKern chose Joshua Tree

I loved this property's location, minutes from the National Park, minutes from the small village, but still far enough out that nature is the dominant force, so quiet, so much wildlife, hiking trails just a few minutes walk from the front door.

What makes this house unique

It's an easy distance from Joshua Tree national Park entrance, minutes from the village and only 20 minutes from a small town, and yet, this neighborhood is serene and quiet, with wildlife everywhere, all year long.

Adorable house and great location..

  • 5 of 5

Piper was a fantastic host. The house was perfect. The courtyard was filled with hummingbirds and other birds. I saw a couple of lizards and 3 desert bunnies. So cute. The house decor was perfect - i would love a duplicate house to live in- and the outdoor showertbath was unique and refreshing. Could not recommend this place more highly. Beat my expectations.

Gorgeous Authentic Feeling Private Dessert Oasis with Outdoor Bath n Doves

  • 5 of 5

This was by far the best place I have ever stayed! I had no idea the privacy the dessert out back would afford, I felt like it was my own private wonderland and watched the moon rise every night while soaking in the OUTDOOR BATH TUB. I saw a rabbit in the back.

The inside is very large and comfortable, big couch, table, large fully stocked kitchen. The front yard was adorable and we watched the doves a ton who were watching their eggs, it was very cute.

I really have nothing to complain about. I found the fold out sofa bed to be too uncomfortable so I just slept on the large, comfy couch which was fine.

I thought I had left some herb books and the host texted me back and was very sweet. Cannot recomend this place enough and will be returning for more magical moonlight baths in the dessert.

Exactly what we wanted.

  • 5 of 5

This place has the perfect combination of seclusion and accessibility. It feels as if you've plopped down right in the middle of the desert. By city standards, the neighbors are very far away. Every single window has a great view. You can see the starry sky from bed...

The accommodations are spacious and cozy and desert cool. Can't wait to come back in the summer!
