It was okay. The one bathroom located downstairs the tiny spiral staircase away from what seemed to be the master bedroom with No door attached to one of the 2 bedrooms were extremely uncomfortable and convenient. The farthest thing from a relaxing vacation with convenient amenities. The bed was as almost as nice as sleeping on a bed of rocks. And the sofa bed should not even be registered as a bed unless you like to have spring bruising for the next few days in your back.
We left the place cleaner than when we came into the house. It looks nice from the outside and the photos but its been a week now and 3 out of 7 of us had to go to the chiropractors. You might want to look at something else before you consider staying here.
Hello and thanks for visiting Orcas with us. We've never had anyone comment on the beds or the sleeper couch before. We're sorry they weren't comfortable to you.
Nice for Boater's too !
The house was certainly nice enough.. we came up with our 28' bayliner and moored it in the harbor.. however, several things that new arrivals may need to take to mind...
..upon our arrival, there was no toilet paper, no soap for the shower, the beds were not made just sheets thrown onto the bed.. the property has a BBQ, but with no BBQ utensils or even a striker to light it.. and to further the frustration, instead of having a lock box installed, the keys need to be picked up 10 miles north up in Eastsound.. Crazy..?! and dropped the keys back off before hitting the ferry..
So we had to get back into the car and travel 20 miles round trip, back up to Eastsound to get the missing articles.. I mean really? most rental properties at the least provide T.P.
make up the beds..? The home itself was nice enough.. but with no air conditioning.. there were several fans to move the air.. the advertised 'entertainment' CD player, TV, etc. is a clusterf of 1980's miss match garage sale components that I had to play with for and hour just to get our CD's working.. 6 remotes! count them.. all for the different makes.. Crazy!
..suggestions..? the owners need to provide the keys at the site.. I have a lock box on my house, and can change the access number anytime I want.. replace the antiquated 'entertainment' center with a $400 Sony component system.. provide TP..
I'm not real sure exactly what the maid service is for..? we left the house in the exact same 'default mode' as we found it.. clean.. bed sheets washed, but left on the beds, unmade
..dishes washed and put away.. clean..
I probably won't return to this particular property, not because it's a 'bad' site.. it's a nice place.. but probably the way it is managed.. and if you are planning to come out? Bring your own TP.. and boom box.. and a striker for the BBQ.. and shower soap.. etc.
Thanks for expressing your concerns. I specifically remember your arrival date as we had some housekeeping staffing hiccups that day which apparently affected how you found the house. There should have been hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and TP to get you started per the contract you signed. Our apologies.
Our Rental Agreement specifically requests guests contact us during your stay so we can correct any oversights. We're sorry we did not hear from you during your stay.
Lastly, we do have a lock box on the house and as many happy guests can attest we have communicated how to arrange to check-in at the house and how to leave the keys at the rental to avoid backtracking.
Such a great house. Perfect for our needs
It was exactly what we needed for a work retreat we attended during the day. The house had everything we needed including plenty of windows, fans, a short walk to the marina and a great living room kitchen area.
Thank you for taking the time to say your Orcas visit was pleasant.
We appreciate it and hope you will return again.

The place was nice, it's just kind of a wait for the key when you end up having to take a 7:30 am ferry over and have to kill time the entire day waiting for 4 00 check-in. But dont lie to your renters when then ask a 2:00 if there is any chance of getting the keys any earlier, "the maid has to Bring the keys back and in 25 years they have not failed". Well, we got the keys at 3:50 went to the house and found the maid there still cleaning.
Hi. As with many popular vacation destinations making houses/rooms ready right on time can be quite the challenge.
Our focus is to present guests with a clean house and pleasant place to stay.
Our paperwork clearly states 4pm is check in. It sounds as if you took quite an early ferry to the islands despite the advertised check-in.
Great place, close to Deer Harbor. Well equipped kitchen. Cozy and nice...
Don't let the previous, somewhat negative, review scare you off. NOTHING was inconvenient for us with the keys and garbage. The procedure for both is clearly explained before arrival. The house is nice. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. You can get anywhere on the island in a short time (in a car) on decent country roads. Very well described in the listing. Would do it again. Two couple shared the home and it had everything we needed. Cell, TV and internet service is spotty but who cares...
Thanks for visiting Orcas with us and taking the time to write a review.
This is a wonderful cottage offering all the comforts of home at a great rate.
We hope you enjoyed Orcas and will return with us again soon!

We have been very experienced renters all over the world, and have NEVER had to drive 25+ minutes ( or anywhere else) to pick up and return house keys. What about a lock box?? Also, we have never had to pay to have garbage removed, take it to the dump ourselves, or TAKE IT WITH US (as we ended up having to do). Reaching the island late at night (due to a ferry issue) with 2 little kids, it was very inconvenient to have to find the real estate office in the dark, and then find the rental (another 25 min.) in the dark. The rental itself was adequate; and the fire pit was lovely. The view pictured was to the left of the cottage. There was no view in front of the cottage, as it is completely blocked by trees. The loft bedroom had a partial curtain, but no real privacy. Good price, but a bit out of the way.
Thank you for staying with us. We do make arrangements with guests who ask if they may leave the keys at the rental. I'm sorry you didn't contact us about such options before expressing displeasure. We are easy to work with, really! Come see us again. Karen
