About the property

Villa, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 7)

Our villa is located in the Fairway Oaks building closest to the beach -- less than a 5-minute walk to a pristine, 10-mile long beach voted by the Travel Channel as one of America's top 10. All 3 bedrooms are located on the first floor (no hauling suitcases up the stairs), with the living area on the upper floor. The master bedroom and queen bedroom each have their own sink and vanity area while sharing a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. The twin-bedded room has its own bath, which can also be entered from the hallway. All beds have new mattresses which were purchased in 2015 and 2016. All bedrooms have large closets, as well as their own tvs with cable and dvd player or vcr. Laundry faciilities are also located on the lower floor.

On the upper floor you will find a fully-equipped kitchen, lovely dining room, and a comfortable living room with wall-mounted large flat-screen tv, dvd player, and stereo. A twin-sized sofa bed is in the living room to accomodate a 7th person. The closet just outside the powder room contains a large collection of games, puzzles, videos, and books for your enjoyment. Relax on the deck with your loved ones, as you watch birds, deer, and squirrels in the surrounding woods.

We are a short walk to West Beach Tennis Center and Cougar Point Golf Course. Take a relaxing stroll to the Straw Market for shopping, dining, or a delicious ice cream after dinner. Or hop in the car for a 5-minute drive to Freshfields Village or Bohicket Marina for additional shopping and dining options. Better yet, hop on your bike and take the bike path all the way to Freshfields! A half-hour drive takes you into Charleston with its shopping, dining, antiquing, and historical sights. Or visit one of the nearby plantations for a trip back in time. You will make memories on this vacation to last a lifetime!

Please note that we only rent privately and not through the Kiawah Island Resort. Therefore, our guests do not have access to a pool, but all other Resort amenities are available (golf, tennis, Kamp Kiawah, nature programs, etc.).

Boardwalk Update: Many of the boardwalks on Kiawah were damaged by Hurricane Matthew last fall. I want to assure all who may be interested in renting our property that the boardwalk normally used by our renters has been repaired and is now open and available for use.

About Wendy Holschuh

Our family has been visiting Kiawah Island since 1987. After vacationing in Florida in 1989, we have returned every year since to the peaceful oasis of Kiawah for our family time together. We realized our dream of purchasing property on Kiawah in 1998. Our villa has been a gathering place for our family and friends where many wonderful memories have been made. One of my favorite things to do at Kiawah is the Turtle Patrol! Endangered loggerhead turtles lay nests on Kiawah from May-August,and the baby turtles hatch from July-October. For the last 10 years, I have volunteered with the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol, which locates, records data, and protects the nests and hatchlings in conjunction with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. I am happy to provide our guests with information about the Turtle Patrol and any nests that might be hatching during their visit. This gives you the chance to witness a nest evaluation where you will learn so much about the loggerheads and if you're very lucky, maybe even see a baby turtle! If you're awake at dawn some morning, come down to the beach and look for the Turtle Patrollers; we love to educate visitors about our turtles!

After vacationing at Kiawah for 10 years, we knew there was no other place we wanted to be. We love to walk the beach, search for shells, bike the over 30 miles of bike baths, and view wildlife (like the strand-feeding dolphins in Captain Sam's Inlet, or the bobcat we recently saw in our parking lot). As history buffs, there is no better place for us than Charleston and the surrounding Low Country! We are at peace here like no other place we have ever been. We feel so lucky to have found this villa, which was the perfect size for our family, and so close to the beach!

What makes this villa unique

Our location on Kiawah Island is so convenient! Being in West Beach, we are just a short drive to Freshfields for shopping (including a grocery store) and dining, or Bohicket Marina for shopping, dining, renting a boat, taking a boat tour, or viewing breathtaking sunsets. Enjoy a leisurely stroll to the Straw Market to pick up a newspaper, enjoy a scrumptious breakfast at the Southern Kitchen, or enjoy an ice cream cone after dinner. Best of all, you're at the beach after an easy, 3-minute walk! No need to load up your car with beach toys -- in the downstairs closet, you will find a tote full of toys, several beach chairs, an umbrella, boogie boards and skimboards! I am a member of the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol, and I am happy to provide our guests with information about the loggerhead turtles and nesting activity during the summer. We provide our guests with hand soap, dishwashing detergent, linens and towels (but please bring your own beach towels). We have a large selection of books for your reading enjoyment. Should the rare rainy day occur, enjoy your family time with the available games, puzzles, or videos. Our home is your home while you are here!

We stayed in this lovely villa on Kiawah Island for 2 gloriously magical weeks. There were 8 of us, counting all the family members that came and went during that time, and we had plenty of space and were all very comfortable. There was so much we loved about the location, but foremost was its close and easy walk to the beach. The walk often held sweet surprises, too, like a doe and her two fawns that walked leisurely ahead of us on the path one afternoon and more deer feeding on the dunes at dusk later. The dune lined beach is beautiful and well preserved. From the beach we saw live starfish washed ashore, dolphins strand feeding in the Inlet and hatched baby Loggerhead turtles heading out to sea. We went on a gator hunt one day and spotted more than ten gators up close! We enjoyed car drives around the Island taking in the beautiful sights such as; gardens, private residential homes, golf courses, parks and other beaches. The bike rides were the most memorable though. We rented 4 bikes from Alligator Bicycle Rentals and we were very pleased with their quick service, the condition of the bikes, and the ease of the riding of the bikes. We ranged in age from 16 to 64 and none of us had ridden in years, but they were so easy to pedal! We took in many sights we would not have seen otherwise while out on our expeditions. What a joy! The exercise was good because we ate well while on the Island. A family favorite was Red's Icehouse at the Bohicket Marina. My husband got the all you can eat crab legs; I'm pretty sure he broke his personal best record! We were seated by the window overlooking the water and saw a beautiful sunset. We got breakfast once in the Straw Market Shopping center. It was pricey, but good. We hit both of the bar-b-que places, one in Osprey Point (where the best gator sighting takes place!) Ask to sit outside on the deck, and you'll likely see several gators exit the pond and sunbathe on the grassy area below. The other barbeque is near Seabrook Island and they do take outs. But, our favorite restaurants are in Charleston. Our recommendations are: Hyman's Seafood, Poogan's Porch, Magnolia's, and any one of the Gellato shops downtown. There's so much to see and do in Charleston. It's an easy 30 min. drive! When we got tired of going, we hung out in the cozy villa. The tv and wifi services were excellent! The kitchen was perfect for meal prep. The villa was stocked with everything we needed. This was a FABULOUS find!

During the loggerhead turtle nesting and hatching season (mid-May to early October), the owner (who is a member of the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol) can provide guests with information about the activities of the Turtle Patrol and upcoming nest evaluations that visitors can observe.

Beautiful villa, awesome location.

The villa is beautifully decorated, well-stocked, and very close to the beach. The walk to the beach is a pleasant stroll down a short tree-lined path and boardwalk. We regularly saw a family of deer in the trees on our walk to the beach. For all intents and purposes, your at the beach. My only complaint is that our time on Kiawah at this villa was too short. We plan to be back soon.

Great location and easy access to the beach.

The house was in great shape and only a 5 minute walk to the beach. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need and the kids loved all of the board games. Also, there were plenty of beach chairs, boogie boards, and beach toys to use so you don't have to bring them with you.

Overall the condo was great and we would definitely stay here again. The only negative is there are no ceiling fans in thebedrooms.

Very clean and orderly property

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was one of the cleanest we have ever stayed in. The villa was well stocked, warm and inviting. Hopefully on our next trip, we will be able to book the villa again. We found the property easily at night!

Very Nice. And, Here's a Driving Tip

We very much like Kiawah and have been there multiple times. I've reviewed this property before. It is a nice two-story unit; well-stocked kitchen, comfy beds and furniture. TV gets lots of channels. Owner is easy to deal with and she provides the name and number of a local caretaker in case you have any problems. She also welcomes dogs, and we bring our three. I enjoy sitting on the balcony and having morning coffee. You can hear the surf from the balcony. Normally you can walk to the beach in five minutes from the unit but Hurricane Matthew destroyed the two nearby boardwalks (and most of the island's boardwalks), so now you need to drive about 10 minutes to use the beach access at the Sanctuary Resort. My guess is that the boardwalks will be repaired this spring.

Here's a tip. For newbies, Kiawah can be a tough place to find your way around at night. It is heavily wooded and all the condos look alike and are stained dark so that they blend in with the woods. There are multiple villas, mostly with cul de sacs/dead ends. This unit is located in the Fairway Oaks Villa. After going through the security gate, turn right at the first street (Kiawah Beach Drive) and proceed to the first stop sign (Shipwatch Drive.) The Straw Mkt is located at the corner. On the way, you will pass Fairway Oaks Villa on Kiawah Beach Drive. DO NOT TURN there, as the villa is divided into two sections with no driving access between them. Instead go on to Shipwatch, turn left, and proceed past two other villas (Seascape and Courtside) and then you'll come to the second part of Fairway Oaks. Turn right. In fact, you can't go any further as the road ends at the Community Center. It can be confusing at first arrival, even for someone who's been there before.

For a real culinary treat, dine at the Wild Olive, about 25 minutes away on the Maybank Hwy. Memorable! And the Freshfields Mkt at Kiawah village has great crab cakes.

All in all, a nice relaxing place in a nice vacation spot.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your (second) review of our property! Thanks also for the detailed instructions for getting to our villa once you are on the island. Yes, Kiawah can be very dark at night (part of its beautiful natural setting), so I also recommend that if arriving at night, bring along a flashlight to make it easier to open the lockbox containing the keys. We have a light on the wall of the porch which indicates our villa number, but it is some distance away from the lockbox, so a brighter light is helpful (of course, using the light on your phone is also an option). I am sorry you have to travel so far to get to the beach at this point, but the boardwalks are in the process of being repaired. Hopefully, this will be remedied very soon, and we will be back to our normal 3-minute walk to the beach! Thankfully, Hurricane Matthew did not damage our building at all. Thanks again for taking the time to write the review!

Cleaning fee is included for stays of 4 nights or more. For stays of 3 nights or less, a cleaning fee of $160 is added.

Dogs are considered on an individual basis; please contact the owner directly. If the owner allows you to bring your dog(s), a nonrefundable pet fee of $100 per dog will be added to the rental rate. The guest is responsible for reimbursing the owner for any damages or extra cleaning caused by the dog(s) which exceeds $100. No more than 2 dogs will be permitted during the rental period.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If the guest wishes to cancel the reservation, the payment(s) will be refunded as follows: Full refund of deposit if cancellation occurs 61 days or more before the arrival date. No refund of deposit for cancellation 31-60 days prior to the arrival date, unless the accommodation is re-rented for the same period. If accommodation is re-rented, the deposit will be returned to the guest within a week of the departure date originally agreed upon the the contract. No refund of full rental rate or taxes paid if cancellation is 30 days or less before the arrival date.
