About Karsten

Karsten and I have been married for over 40 years, we traveled the first ten years of our married life and have toured Europe, Canada, Mexico, China and the 48 continental United States. We love traveling, photography, ballroom dancing, kayaking, fishing, learning languages, etc etc etc...we are always interested in broadening our horizon and we love life. We have a very spoiled Amazon parrot, she has been a great companion for the last ten years. After many years of travel, we decided that the west coast was our preference and we particularly are fond of the Pacific Northwest.

When we first became acquainted with the Coos County area, it was back in 1974, we loved it back then. Our work eventually took us to the central coast of California where we operated a photographic studio for over 20 years. We retired from the photography business five years ago. When we retired, we wanted to find a place as nice as the San Luis Obispo area. We think we found it in the Bandon area. Pelican Point opened for business summer of 2012, this aesthetically beautiful, new house about three minutes from the ocean, People that stay in the house comment how clean and nice it is in comparison to many other places they have stayed at. We offer good quality at a reasonable price. We want your stay in Bandon to be a memorable one and we do our best to make ensure that, from very comfortable beds for a great night’s sleep, good quality linens, lots of pillows, towels and blankets, quality appliances and quality furniture to make you truly feel at home. We even have soap dispensers in the showers and a nice laundry facility to make your stay more comfortable. I hope you will love your stay here and we hope you will choose Pelican Point when you next visit Bandon.

Karsten purchased this house in 2010

Why Karsten chose Bandon

Bandon is sister city to St Andrews, the only difference is that Bandon is more difficult to get to.

We discovered the area in 1974 when we were newly weds, we loved the area then and when we retired we decided that we wanted to return to the area. We live in Bandon and with so many people visiting Bandon we wanted to branch out into vacation rentals. This is our first year in business. We will be constantly improving the already new house.

What makes this house unique

I love the proximity to the ocean, it is only a three minute walk away. It is close to Devil's Kitchen beach and state park, the great rock formations and endless miles of sandy beaches. I thoroughly enjoy our beaches because they are not crowded. Pelican Point is close to horseback riding, golf courses, a lot of things that visitors want to see.

Outstanding value, great location, tremendous owners.

Very rarely are your expectations exceeded, but this was the case with the Pelican Point property. The house is in excellent condition and it is easy to see why...the owners. I can't say enough good things about Karsten and Yiena. Super friendly, responsive, helpful, and welcoming.

Walking in the house it is spotless. The beds are newer and very comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need for a family vacation or entertaining. The short walk from Pelican Point takes you to a wonderful part of the beach. The other properties in the area are also well kept, however Pelican Point is just an incredible value for everything that it offers. My family liked the fact that they could easily walk to Face Rock and pick blackberries between Pelican Point and the beach.

A newer washer and dryer were also very handy to use. The kids enjoyed a few shows on the included Netflix service and my wife and I were able to enjoy a newer movie as well. Space is plentiful everywhere inside this property and they even had a number of fun games for our family to enjoy together.

We had a minor issue with one of the programmable locks and the owner called me right away and he had it resolved immediately. Since I reached out regarding the lock, I also mentioned that we were looking for some plastic wrap for leftover veggies and the aluminum foil was at the end of the roll. The owners drove over and hand delivered both items and made sure everything was perfect with the property. We were asked if we had any questions or concerns. That is outstanding support for a rental property directly from the owners who are local and clearly care about their guests.

We would stay at Pelican Point again in a heartbeat as it offers so much and the area is beautiful. Thank you Karsten and Yiena!

The house was beautiful. Misleading about the walk to the ocean. Because the house was so nice there were many rules to be followed. I understand from the owner's side but this could potentially not be a place to stay for families with children. You would have to be on guard to make sure the rules were followed. Also, streaming tv may be an issue for people used to regular stations.

Owner's Response: Dear, Thank you for your review. We understand that the walk to the beach may take longer for some older guest in poor health who has trouble walking, a few may even drive the short way if they are unable to walk. We do have a few house rules, no smoking, no pets and to leave outside shoes in the entry hall. We also do believe that children should be supervised, not the least so they do not injure themselves. We offer 2 flat screen TVs and DVD players and WiFi as well as free phone with long distance to the continental US, free streaming Netflix through a ROKU device which gives many other free options. Since we offer our house for rent at a lesser rate than most houses of a comparable quality and outfitting, we find it impossible also to offer all the network stations. Some stations offer Pay per View for guests who need more than the free options. Sincerely Karsten, Pelican Point Vacation Rental.

Nice House - Good Location

  • 5 of 5

This house is in superb condition - exceptionally clean, very well-stocked kitchen, nice furnishings. The bedrooms and bathrooms are exceptionally well done.

There is a near-new Next Grill (propane) in the garage that we did not have a chance to use. The short walk to the beach was great and the wide beach was inviting, especially during low tide for exploring.

The only recommendation would be to improve the primary TV in the living room to a new Smart TV with cable. The Roku worked fine but the content is limited. When there was a problem with the WiFi, Karsten was there quickly to successfully address the issue. The WiFi speeds are very good.

Thank you, Karsten, for a great visit!

Owner's Response: Hi Mike, Than you for your nice review, we try to have the best and cleanest house that we are able to. My wife is very particular. When we furnished Pelican Point, she insisted on good furniture and all new kitchen equipment, the ones installed by the contractor were not good enough in her opinion. We also made it a partly smart house without making it too difficult for our guests. Thanks for the note on a smart TV. We actually tried a couple smart DVD players with a build in ROKU, but had trouble with them. We originally had network but it originally was running on a line system which caused trouble, I forget the exact term the technician used so we cancelled it, I talked the company into extend the fiber optic to our house, the neighbor's house was the furthest south they went when we bought the house, it had never been lived in when we got it. We decided to stay with ROKU and Netflix, there are many other services available on ROKU both free or pay channels. I don't know how many of our guests use any of the other channels though. Lovely place for a get-away weekend or long vacation

  • 5 of 5

Property was exceptionally clean and well kept. The kitchen is large and well equipped and the furniture throughout the house is very comfortable. It is an easy walk to a gorgeous beach though the path down to the beach through the deep, soft sand was not so easy to navigate for the 80 year old and over, members of our group. That being said, a very short distance down the road provides an easier route with less soft sand to navigate. The beach there is not to be missed, and at a minimum, one or more daily walks are most definitely the order of the day.

The owner was always available to correct or fix any minor problems and is a most pleasant person to work with under any circumstances.
