The Anchorage at Deep Cove is a community of individual homes designed by an extraordinary designer/artisan, Rob Parker, who purchased the land on the cove several years ago. He respected the integrity of the anchorage shoreline and he maintained the environmental beauty of the rocky shore.
Recently, an author who was in search of a place for inspiration ensconced herself in the house for a month during the winter season. She credits the peaceful atmosphere and the natural beauty as enabling her successful completion of the book. It was the right place at the 'write' time....her words!

While working and traveling internationally, I always dreamed of returning to Nova Scotia, and to have a place of my own by the ocean. This home in Deep Cove appealed to me because the location was both logistically and physically ideal in any season. One can relax or entertain with ease in a comfortable and cozy environment.
When I stay at Deep Cove I enjoy the natural beauty of the landscape. I love being by the ocean and walking on these incredible shores. Each season offers something uniquely different.
We spent 4 glorious nights at Janet's home in Deep Cove. Everything was exactly as described in the pictures and in all the other wonderful reviews on VRBO. The house was tastefully decorated, very clean & well-maintained, and in an ideal location for exploring Chester, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, the Minas Basin & Peggy's Cove. The location was perfect for star-gazing (best display of stars I've ever seen in Canada), perched up above the head of an idyllic cove. The best surprise was the beautiful screened-in porch, where we spent much of our time. I was truly sad to leave yesterday. This was without a doubt the most peaceful, enjoyable vacation that I have ever had, and I will absolutely return.
The first impression....Pretty, light filled home beautifully appointed with an eclectic mix of antique and modern furnishings...But, it is the view that draws you. Nothing short of gorgeous..sitting high above the cove, surrounded by forest, a few sailboats moored nearby, the water glass-like calm. The effect? Instant serenity.
My family and I spent a week at Deep Cove. I appreciated the owner, Janet's obvious fine taste in furnishings but also the fact that the house was immaculate! Good linens, comfortable beds, clean and above average (marble!) bathrooms. A vase of fresh flowers and candles too!
My husband, who is the real cook in the family said the kitchen was the best he had seen in a vacation home and we have been renting for twenty years! Very well stocked with good quality dishes, cutlery, knives and pots and pans, all of which made our dinners a pleasure to prepare.
The expansive screened in porch is the real treasure here. We used it to sit in the sun and savour morning coffee and at night, candlelit, with a good bottle of wine spent hours enjoying the air and just chatting.
This is a very restful place. And although you do have to drive to other spots such as the town of Chester for supplies, it is a mere 15 minute trip. Bayswater, a lovely sandy beach is just twenty minutes away. And the wonderful towns of Lunenburg (World heritage site...wear your walking shoes for the hills!, Home of the famed Bluenose sailboat) and Mahone Bay, even Halifax are less than an hour away.
Janet is also a pleasure to deal with; kind enough to give us information that only a local would know.
We truly hope to return one day. Thanks to you Janet for sharing your special place.
After two weeks of traveling we stayed for a week in this perfect holiday house. It's clean, well appointed, and the inscreened porch a great place to sit in. There are no chairs in the garden, we missed that on our sunny days. The house is perfectly located to visit al lot of places nearby. We recommend this house to everyone who wants to enjoy Nova Scotia. We hope to come back sometime. Max, Loes and Jonathan (Netherlands)
I spent three heavenly weeks in this light filled house from May 25 to June 16. Driving the scenic Lighthouse Route to every village was a delight; but I would have been perfectly happy spending the entire time sitting in the screened veranda looking at the view. Over the three weeks, I watched Spring turn into Summer. The gorgeous landscaping around the house evolved from pale green leaves to flowering trees and shrubs, all framing tranquil Deep Cove. Great food and wine shopping in nearby Chester, Mahone Bay and the charming Saturday Summer market in Hubbards, meant that I usually cooked my evening meal in the wonderful kitchen. It has everything, including a lobster pot. Even the BBQ has a view of the cove. When darkness fell and the air cooled, the next great pleasure was curling up in front of the gas fireplace. I must say that the bed provided the best sleep I have ever had, so much so that I replaced my own bed when I returned home. I'd like to mention how cleverly this entire little community of houses has been built sympathetically with the landscape, the cove and in relation to each other. A simply beautiful place on Deep Cove. I even spent some time picking out which available lot I might like for myself, but in truth , this house has the best location.
Our family of five found Deep Cove to be the perfect beachhead for our trip to Nova Scotia. Nested within a small community of similar New England style homes, this property offers both privacy and a sense of community (friendly neighbors), along with serene views of the bay and easy access to tons of sightseeing, recreation and great eating. The house is well maintained and very comfortable, with a terrific screened in porch and cozy living/family room. For folks reading this review that aren’t all that familiar with the geography of the region, Deep Cove serves as a first class hub with more easy-to-drive to destinations (historic sites, small towns, beaches) than you’ll ever have time to explore. Our family felt safe and relaxed here and couldn’t imagine a better headquarters for our vacation. And the owner, Janet, is very responsive. We had an amazing time and dream of coming back again and again.
I stayed here for a week and it was the most lovely vacation rental! The location was perfect - close enough to Halifax to spend a few days there, but far enough away to be able to unwind and listen to the ocean. Close to small fishing villages, beaches and a beautiful rail trail for hiking. The house itself is amazing - very clean and well appointed. Definitely a great place to curl up and read with a beer after a long day of sightseeing. The kitchen was quite large so we made many of our own meals and ate them on the screened in porch overlooking the bay. Definitely not to be missed!!
