About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Imagine yourself awakening in a beautiful coastal home situated in tranquil Deep Cove, a short distance from the village of Chester. This majestic cove on the Aspotogan Peninsula of Nova Scotia was often a haven for sailors seeking shelter from the stormy Atlantic.

Open the double glass doors of your spacious main floor and experience the pleasure of the sea air from the intimacy of your veranda. No dress code required.

This accomodating1 1/2 story, 2 bedroom house offers all the modern amenities you need to relax and indulge yourself. The cozy library and the TV lounge, or anteroom can be easily adapted for additional sleeping quarters. The kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances and all the accoutrements for the gourmet cook or cooks.

Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The large master bedroom has an ensuite, with a Jacuzzi bath and separate glass walled shower. The double doors from the master bedroom open to a secluded terrace. The main floor bedroom has a private bath/shower with a separate half-bathroom. The double doors of this bedroom lead out to the patio for the morning sunshine. There is a double futon sofa bed in the library and a king-size bed solution in the anteroom off of the living room. All sleeping areas are fully complimented with sheets, pillows and duvets for your ease and comfort.

Enjoy the view of the cove from your large screened-in veranda, which will shade you, as well as lend you shelter to read and relax at whim. The veranda also allows you to bbq and dine outside in the seaside atmosphere with ease and convenience.

Sail the ocean waters from your shared wharf or relax on the wharf and test your luck at some fishing. Try kayaking around the cove or play in the sand and waves at Bayswater Beach, only five minutes away.

The home is a perfect place to host family or friends for a special occasion. It lends itself to entertaining in an informal but gracious ambience, with the potential to open all the doors and enlarge the space onto the veranda. The vaulted ceilings, original art, and gorgeous fireplace add elegance to the living areas while the marble-topped counters give the open kitchen a hint of glamour.

If the evening is cooler, then the propane fireplace will lend warmth and romance with just the flick of a switch.

From this home you can take day trips to Lunenburg-a UNESCO world heritage site, Mahone Bay-the Home of the Wooden Boats, Halifax-the capital of Nova Scotia, founded in 1749....and this is all less than an hour away.

If you are flying into the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, this home is a 50-55 minute drive towards the coast. It is a 15-minute drive to the quaint and sophisticated village of Chester, which has upscale shops, good restaurants and live theatre throughout the summer. You could hop on the local ferry and enjoy a visit to the islands of Little or Big Tancook. The South Shore area has many pleasures to offer for sightseeing and adventure.

The Anchorage at Deep Cove is a community of individual homes designed by an extraordinary designer/artisan, Rob Parker, who purchased the land on the cove several years ago. He respected the integrity of the anchorage shoreline and he maintained the environmental beauty of the rocky shore.

Recently, an author who was in search of a place for inspiration ensconced herself in the house for a month during the winter season. She credits the peaceful atmosphere and the natural beauty as enabling her successful completion of the book. It was the right place at the 'write' time....her words!

Why The Owner chose Nova Scotia

While working and traveling internationally, I always dreamed of returning to Nova Scotia, and to have a place of my own by the ocean. This home in Deep Cove appealed to me because the location was both logistically and physically ideal in any season. One can relax or entertain with ease in a comfortable and cozy environment.

What makes this house unique

When I stay at Deep Cove I enjoy the natural beauty of the landscape. I love being by the ocean and walking on these incredible shores. Each season offers something uniquely different.

Beautiful relaxing place

  • 5 of 5

The house, neighborhood and Deep Cove are very nice. House is well equipped and maintained. The Cove is picturesque and very relaxing. Great screened in porch. The booking and communications with the owner were perfect. This house is located in a small community of similar houses and it is in a rural area. You will need to drive quite a bit to get to things. Halifax is 60kms, Lunenburg is 40+, and the great little village of Chester is about 20 kms away. But it is central to everything on the south west coast. We really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful home, excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying in this beautiful home. We used it as a base for our day trips. It was so nice to come home to the covered in porch and continue to enjoy the views Nova Scotia had to offer. Everything you need is provided and the house is more than amazing to stay in. There are many great restaurants and activities within a short distance. Highly recommended!!

Beautiful home on serene cove

  • 5 of 5

Thanks Janet for sharing your home with us. It was a beautiful home base for our East Coast adventure. We loved the views, the local beaches and it was a close drive to local attractions. I would totally recommend this high quality home to others wanting to see Nova Scotia's beauty.

Exquisite home, absolute serenity

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 glorious nights at Janet's home in Deep Cove. Everything was exactly as described in the pictures and in all the other wonderful reviews on VRBO. The house was tastefully decorated, very clean & well-maintained, and in an ideal location for exploring Chester, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, the Minas Basin & Peggy's Cove. The location was perfect for star-gazing (best display of stars I've ever seen in Canada), perched up above the head of an idyllic cove. The best surprise was the beautiful screened-in porch, where we spent much of our time. I was truly sad to leave yesterday. This was without a doubt the most peaceful, enjoyable vacation that I have ever had, and I will absolutely return.

Serenity by the Sea

  • 5 of 5

The first impression....Pretty, light filled home beautifully appointed with an eclectic mix of antique and modern furnishings...But, it is the view that draws you. Nothing short of gorgeous..sitting high above the cove, surrounded by forest, a few sailboats moored nearby, the water glass-like calm. The effect? Instant serenity.

My family and I spent a week at Deep Cove. I appreciated the owner, Janet's obvious fine taste in furnishings but also the fact that the house was immaculate! Good linens, comfortable beds, clean and above average (marble!) bathrooms. A vase of fresh flowers and candles too!

My husband, who is the real cook in the family said the kitchen was the best he had seen in a vacation home and we have been renting for twenty years! Very well stocked with good quality dishes, cutlery, knives and pots and pans, all of which made our dinners a pleasure to prepare.

The expansive screened in porch is the real treasure here. We used it to sit in the sun and savour morning coffee and at night, candlelit, with a good bottle of wine spent hours enjoying the air and just chatting.

This is a very restful place. And although you do have to drive to other spots such as the town of Chester for supplies, it is a mere 15 minute trip. Bayswater, a lovely sandy beach is just twenty minutes away. And the wonderful towns of Lunenburg (World heritage site...wear your walking shoes for the hills!, Home of the famed Bluenose sailboat) and Mahone Bay, even Halifax are less than an hour away.

Janet is also a pleasure to deal with; kind enough to give us information that only a local would know.

We truly hope to return one day. Thanks to you Janet for sharing your special place.

perfect

  • 5 of 5

After two weeks of traveling we stayed for a week in this perfect holiday house. It's clean, well appointed, and the inscreened porch a great place to sit in. There are no chairs in the garden, we missed that on our sunny days. The house is perfectly located to visit al lot of places nearby. We recommend this house to everyone who wants to enjoy Nova Scotia. We hope to come back sometime. Max, Loes and Jonathan (Netherlands)
