Your own private Harlem hideaway. A quiet dreamy oasis for your busy New York stay. Enjoy life in an 1895 brownstone in one of the city's most charming historic neighborhoods. NOTE: This is just one of four unique units in the building. We also have a Garden Apartment, Studio Apartment and Guest Room.
The Parlor is a fully furnished one bedroom apartment located in Uptown Manhattan, in Harlem, New York City. The apartment is on the 1st floor of a landmarked private brownstone townhouse in the Mount Morris Historic District.
This apartment features 12' ceilings, modern furnishings and professionally designed accents. All lights are on dimmer switches to provide an intimate setting. There is a color video buzzer/intercom system for guest entry.
The living room has a 46'' swing-out, wall mounted LED flat screen television and DVD player as well as a remote control radio/iPod player with playlist of blues and jazz. Wireless Internet access is also provided. Original over-sized photographic artwork creates a dramatic focal point. Enjoy sitting in the vintage government-issued dentist chair. The leather sofa folds out to become a super comfortable memory foam queen-sized bed, the highest quality available. The well-stocked bookshelf provides eclectic reading. Original shutters fold out for privacy.
The kitchen features stainless steel appliances: large refrigerator with auto ice maker, dishwasher, four burner gas range with oven and a built-in microwave/fan. Also provided are a blender, toaster, coffee maker, dishes and flatware, glassware and mugs, cooking pots and pans and utensils. There are plenty of cabinets with under-counter lighting. Dishwasher detergent is provided, as well a filtered water pitcher.
The washer and dryer is next to the bathroom. Detergent is provided. The cabinet next to it holds bedding, extra towels, an iron as well as plenty of storage space.
The bathroom has a vintage claw-foot bathtub with shower option, as well as hamper, hair dryer, exhaust fan, hairspray and room spray in the cabinet.
The bedroom is accessible though beautiful sliding pocket doors with intricate woodwork above. The art deco wood wardrobe has ample size as well as drawers and trouser hangers. Original wood paneling and fireplace add charm to the bedroom. The memory foam queen bed features a vintage reading light and is next to the window, providing gentle garden breezes. A variable speed overhead fan adds to the luxury. Shelves hold a small library along with a clock radio/iPod player. The large windows also house original fold-out shutters for privacy, although you will love the view of the beautiful private garden below nestled under sheltering birch trees.
You also have access to the beautifully landscaped shared backyard.

A product, landscape and interior designer with numerous awards and items in national museums. In fact, the building has also been published in several magazines and appeared in films. A world traveller, as I flew for Pan Am for over 7 years. Partner at the popular Harlem Shake, a restaurant I designed.

This building is typical of the historic neighborhood. I was impressed that it still retained so much of its original form and material. However, I was very impressed by the atmosphere of the block, with friendly, open and involved neighbors.
What makes this Apartment unique
The quiet friendly tree-lined street, proximity to express subway- only 4 stops to Times Square, closeness to neighborhood coffee shop and historic park, as well as the 125 St. corridor and Central Park. I actually love sitting on the front stoop while having a coffee or a glass of wine. I love seeing the relaxed street life going by, and being a part of it. Since my block is dominated by private brownstones, rather than apartment buildings, it has a friendlier, small town feeling than most other neighborhoods.

Dennis is always ready to help, to advice, to propose current events in the city according ours interests.
Any technical comments about the nice apartment, the historic house, the warm neighborhood have the big plus of the human factor, the lanlord.

Charming city getaway
Comfortable and cosy accommodation. Our host met us on time, he was friendly and welcoming and briming with helpful hints on how best to get around Manhattan, what to see and where to eat We felt at home.
Simple and Convenient
The Parlor was the perfect place for our short weekend trip. Highly recommended.
Good Value, Nice Place
My wife and I enjoyed the Parlor Apartment. Very comfortable bed, good shower, neat neighborhood, convenient to the Subway, and just a few blocks away from Central Park. Had breakfast one morning down the street at Harlem Shake. Had dinner one night a few blocks over at Harlem Pizza. Both delicious! The apartment and the neighborhood are full of personality. I'd recommend this spot to anybody.
Great place, great location!
It was a pleasure to stay at the Hideaway! Very well equipped and very well located it was a great home away from home with a lot of charm! And the owner is really helpful! Overall, we loved the area and it was a perfect location to explore the city and a friendly and safe neighborhood!
Dennis is a great person to rent from and has really great restaurant ideas! The apartment is very spacious and comfortable. It has everything one could need. The location is fabulous too!!
Harlem Hideaway is on West 119th Street in Harlem, New York City. Marcus Garvey Park is just over a block away, with a public swimming pool, and the famed Central Park is only 9 blocks south of this rental. There is a grocery store and laundromat within 2 blocks, and the nearby Lenox Avenue offers a variety of restaurants and convenience stores. Also on Lenox Avenue, you will find Harlem Shake and the Red Rooster Restaurant, staples of Harlem. The West 125th Street shopping corridor includes Apollo Theater, Studio Museum of Harlem and major stores, such as H & M and Marshall’s, and on Frederick Douglass Avenue you will find restaurant row. Public transportation is convenient with the 2/3 subway station just over 3 blocks away, offering both express and local train service. The A/B/C line is also nearby, about 4 blocks away.
