Beautiful view, but very basic house amenities
My friends and I had stayed here a few years ago, but the house did not feel as well cared for as before. No soap in the showers/tub; bring your own propane or charcoal for the grill; no beach towels or chairs; backed up shower drain; pillows need to be replaced/washed. That said, the view is wonderful; it's quiet and peaceful. Kitchen is new and clean. Great fresh fish store across the causeway!!!!
Since you stayed at my house in 2014, there are all new Andersen windows, new sliding glass doors, new vinyl siding, all new decking and railing and new deck furniture, new deck carpet, new exterior light fixtures, new kitchen/Thomasville cabinets, quartz countertops, new appliances and more! How can you possibly say that the house has not been kept up!
During your stay, you contacted me claiming that there were burned out light bulbs. After driving to the house to assist, I found that all the lights were functioning properly, you simply had not turned the lights on. I found it hard to fathom you could not find the light switch for the porch light that is immediately next to the front door.
As I explained, in each bathrooms there are two liquid soap dispensers; one for the sink, one for the shower. Bar soap is a preference; you are welcome to bring your own. The problem with bar soap is that, just as did, guests will leave bar soap in the shower when they depart. Leaving bar soap in the shower violates house rules in that you did not remove all your trash. In short, bar soap is wasteful. That is the reason, we supply liquid soap and not bar soap.
Regarding propane and charcoal, your reservation was for two guests, but we noticed that all four beds were used during your stay. Are you asking me to supply propane and charcoal for registered guests only, or everyone that you invite to the house? There is a propane tank that you are welcome to use with the gas/charcoal grill and there is charcoal available, too. Would it be fair to guests who don’t use propane and charcoal for me include that cost in the rent? Asking me to provide propane and charcoal is equivalent to you asking me to pay for you and friends to dine out while you are staying at my house.
You complained about the shower drain while you were at the house. We tested the drain and did not find a problem, but to satisfy you we poured a gallon of Liquid Plumber into the drains while you were there. Your comment about the pillows is unfounded. The pillows were all new at the beginning of this rental season and are cleaned/sanitized after each guests’ use.
Had you asked for beach towels and chairs during your mid-September stay, I would have told you were to find them. I presume that you are now trying to make up some complaints give the appearance that your three-star rating has merit, but it doesn’t. Your comments are unfounded and lack merit. In future reviews, be honest.
Good location but it was impossible to keep the place comfortable with only two free standing air conditioning units on the top floor. The first floor was very humid and uncomfortable. The owner brought a dehumidifier to help with the humidity but unfortunately the unit put off a lot of heat itself.
The air conditioners are positioned to cool the entire house. The guests rearranged the living room furniture and closed doors blocking the air flow from the air conditioners.
It would have been helpful for the guests to at least put the living room furniture back in its original place before they departed. The living room furniture is quite heavy and it was unfair to leave this work for the cleaning crew to do. One of the house rules prohibits moving furniture.
The dehumidifier has a cooling component. Most likely the guests were using the wrong settings.
It was not only the living room furniture that was moved. The patio tables, umbrellas and umbrella stands and chairs were re-arranged to accommodate a large group of people-at least 14 people!. Certainly more people than were registered to stay at this house. The house accommodates up to 6 people. The house rules include "no parties."
Rearranging furniture and over crowding are the primary reasons the air conditioners had to work extra hard for this extra large group.
Our house rules have been established to ensure that guests have a comfortable stay at our home.
The next time you stay at someone's home make yourself familiar with the house rules and follow them. I am certain that both the guests and the hosts will have a more pleasant experience.
Needs some TLC
We had a wonderful time in Mystic with this property having a great location. However air cond. was only on the upper level. The lower level had poor circulation using ceiling fans with the children's bunk bed room fan so close to the upper bunk it was unusable at night. As the week went along mold developed in downstairs bathroom and spiders and small black bugs were flying around. Lighting was poor and light sockets were loose in walls. Childtens smoke detector in bedroom had been pulled off and not replaced. The brand new kitchen was quite nice but pots and pans were rusted and Teflon peeling off bottoms which made them unusable. The grill had a summers worth of food caked on it and we were expected to fill the tank at our expense. Overall we felt that this property did not live up to what we expect from home away.
It is amazing that none of these issues were brought to our attention during your stay. We received two comments from you during your stay: 1. The air condition read “FL” but was operating properly and 2. A light bulb burned out.
I offered to change the light bulb, but you did not want me to come to the house. I did notice, as I drove by, that there were more people and cars at the property than were registered to stay there.
There have been no reported incidents of bugs or mold, before or after, your stay at our property.
The house has been newly renovated on the interior and exterior; all building, including electrical systems, are up to date with local building codes. There are no loose sockets.
There are six working smoke detectors in this 1,600 square foot house. That is far more smoke detectors than is required for the size of the house.
Your comments about the pots and pans are unfounded, Teflon does not rust. The bunk bed in the children’s bedroom was placed correctly in relation to the ceiling fan until you moved the bed.
The gas/charcoal grill was clean before you arrived. If you and your guests caked it with food, there were cleaning utensils available at the house for you to use. No, we do not supply gas or charcoal. The cost would need to be added to rent and not all guests use it.
There are two 26,000 btu air conditioners in this 1,600 square foot house. One of the air conditioners is positioned to circulate from the second floor to the first floor. Cold air moves downward. There are two floor fans in the closet on the first floor for guests to use if they would like more air circulation. And, of course the house is harder to cool when it is overcrowded with people and their belongings.
In summary, I offer the following comments: 1. If there were any issue you should have spoken to me while you were at the property and 2. Be honest when you write a review.
Stayed here for a girls' weekend and really enjoyed all the space in the house along with the updated kitchen and amazing deck. Margaret, the owner, gave us a thorough tour when we checked in and was very welcoming. The upstairs is perfect for hanging out and the deck has numerous seating and eating areas plus a terrific view. The house is close to everything including grocery stores, shopping, restaurants and Misquamicut. The only potential negative was the downstairs bedrooms. They were a little stuffy and had a bit of a basement odor. After opening windows and airing them out, it wasn't an issue but if you're very sensitive to odors it could be a problem. Otherwise, a great place.
Thank you for your kind words, Sophia. Hope to see you in the future.
The house is great - in a great location. We had a great family vacation.

It was just my boyfriend and I and we were really comfortable. The deck was amazing, we spent most of our time on it. Great week of decompressing from the city life. Will definitely be back.
