Met our needs perfectly

  • 5 of 5

We spent a few days in Santa Rosa visiting family at Spring Lake Village. The convenience of Parkside Cottage could not be beat for our purposes, since it is literally a few steps away. We look forward to visiting again in a warmer season so we can take even more advantage of it.

Very comfortable, slightly rustic

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were here for a week in October and enjoyed it every day. It is in the middle of Sonoma County with countless wineries and tap rooms within a 30 minute drive. There are also wonderful state parks and beautiful Santa Rosa. We were able to find a local farmer's market, pick up a few things from the local grocery store, and enjoy making our own dinner on the grill. Robin and Simmon were very welcoming and made sure we felt at home. Lena (the cat) was just the opposite. She was perfectly content to bask a safe distance away on the warm patio while keeping a watchful eye on her visitors.

It gets a little chilly at night in the fall and this cottage does not have heat. Space heaters are provided, however we prefer the cool nights and choose not to use them. After a long day of hiking it felt great to lay down. The memory foam mattress is not what we were accustomed to so, although initially comfortable, it became difficult to sleep on after the fifth night or so (we were there for eight nights). To be fair, I would say the same about any bed that is not my own. The crisp nights, large single basin sink, garden, chickens, and mismatched dishes reminded me of my grandfather's cottage in northern Wisconsin (without the Ben Franklin stove, of course). This is a great stay for a long weekend out of the city.

Peaceful, perfect, rural setting...

  • 5 of 5

This was really a perfect stay--all your needs are met and the cabin is so clean, comfortable and had all that you needed. We were greeted by 8 wild turkeys, then sat by a creek and sipped champagne. Close to town, but doesn't feel like it. I would stay here again. Thanks so much to Robin and Sim for making it so pleasant. Dulc & Michael, Manila, Ca.

Quaint & Quiet slice of country in the middle of Santa Rosa

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary, perfect little cottage, small, but with all the necessary amenities. So much nicer than staying at a large hotel with lots of noise and people running around. Parkside Cottage is very quiet, with only the sound of birds chirping in the morning, scratching of the chickens outside our bedroom window, and the flow of the nearby creek. Simmon & Robin were very hospitable, had fresh eggs waiting for us on arrival, and encouraged us to visit the garden and take what ever we wanted. Love the fig trees, and fresh ripe figs. Would have enjoyed more fresh eggs, but we can only get what the chickens produce! More than enough clean towels, fully stocked kitchen with coffee, creamer, tea, butter, and several condiments in fridge, basic seasonings and spices. We had all the privacy we wanted, but nice to know Robin and Simmon were next door if we needed anything. I did ask for an extra pillow, and Robin quickly produced a nice cushy pillow!

We took a nice short hike down to the creek. Simmon has built some steps leading down to creek, and said we were the first guests to walk down them! Also walking distance to nearby Spring Lake, which we also walked to. Nice walking/jogging/biking trails at the lake. Most of our trip was spent at Frances Ford Coppola's winery for anniversary dinner Thurs night, and pool day with my sis on Friday. We mainly only spent mornings and evenings at the cottage. Also took the short drive into town to visit Simmon's art gallery... very fun gallery!

We will definitely look Robin & Simmon up again for our next trip up north. And hopefully spend more time relaxing in the tranquil setting. If you're traveling to Nor Cal to visit the wineries and beautiful countryside, consider staying at Parkside Cottage instead of a chain hotel. You will be glad you did!!!

About The Owner

Robin and Sim are lifelong artists, avid gardeners, and outdoor enthusiasts. In 2012 they retired from nearly 20 years of owning a retail art supply store in Santa Rosa. In addition to Parkside Cottage, they now own an art gallery in Santa Rosa, Chroma Gallery at 312 South A Street, Santa Rosa.

Sim teaches art classes and workshops at the gallery, and both enjoy working in their extensive organic garden, or hiking, biking & kayaking in nearby Spring Lake and Annadel Parks.

Sim is a native of Chicago, but after living in Sonoma County since the '70's he qualifies as a native. Robin is a native Californian hailing from the Monterey Peninsula, and has also lived in Sonoma County since the '70's.

Since 1994, they have been the careful stewards of their charming 1 acre property and are delighted to share it with visitors.
