About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed, 1 Baths, (Sleeps 2-4)

Enjoy a vacation as if you were on your own private island in the Tropics! This newly built and modernly designed house by its architect owner gives you exceptional privacy coupled with the flexibility to cook to your tastes and eat in, or casually walk to top-notch restaurants boasting both local cuisine (from hooked-today fresh seafood to traditional Mexican recipes) and international fare.

This house sits atop a 300 ft. bluff overlooking the famed Mazatlan boardwalk, which runs oceanside for over 7 miles. Not only does the boardwalk, or Malecon in Spanish, offer a direct point of contact with the city's greatest asset (proximity to the ocean and the historic center), but is also an opportunity for tourists and local residents alike to interact around recreation, relaxation, happy hour and beautiful sunsets. The Malecon walkway is also perfectly suited for low-impact walking, biking, jogging, roller-blading and people watching.

Mazatlan has the perfect mix of history, urban vitality, and touristic amenities to make your vacation both recreational and educational. Mazatlan is the oldest port (dating back nearly 500 years) and is the largest fishing port on the Mexican coastline. In combination with an equatorial location on the Tropic of Cancer, Mazatlan provides an ideal combination of authentic Mexican history and culture, amenities of larger commercial resorts, and adventures off the beaten path.

Mazatlan Holy Week and Bike Week

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place if you want to get away from the tourists and if you appreciate the flavor of what is Mexico. There are a number of things to do nearby. In fact I was thinking or renting a car and I am glad that we didn't do so. You can get around on open air taxis (pulmonias) very affordably.

My stay was a hair atypical in that I came during Semana Santa (Holy Week) which is followed by bike week. So far no problems with either set of people. Bike week down here isn't like a Hell's Angels gathering. It is a lot of motorcyclists enjoying themselves with minimal drunken stupor.

The owner of this property is forthright and attentive. It is a definite plus to have your own kitchen, private pool and a 180 degree view of the Pacific. On a couple of nights music played into the evening but it was actually pretty good music and it doesn't go on forever and ever (that is my mothers house in LA)

I would definitely recommend a stay at Norberto's 1 BR condo.

Some other local activities I would recommend. Take the jungle tour. It is a great boat ride with a great guide, pelicans ride in and out with you on the bow. There is a pristine beach on stone island. It is a full day 9-3 for 30 bucks with food included.

Pancho's in the Zona Dorada is a fantastic joint. There is also an upscale place called El Presidio that I was frankly disappointed in for the cost to flavor ratio. Great staff and atmosphere though as well as live music.

El Quelite is 25 km away. El Meson de Los Laureanos is a phenomenally good restaurant. Order the Carnitas and you will not be disappointed.

If you want to visit a city that is more city than resort filled with crazy people a la Cancun. Come to Mazatlan and enjoy 85 degree consistent highs and 67 degree lows in April.

And we still have tonight and tomorrow left haha......

Suberb quiet location and fantastic view.

  • 4 of 5

We rented this property for two weeks in January and enjoyed our stay very much. The location in the Historical Centro is excellent and the views are spectacular. It is secure with a gate and live-in caretakers on the ground floor (Pedro and Suzanne), although they speak Spanish only. The water in the pool was too cold to swim but we always enjoyed sitting on the deck looking out at the ocean and the Malecon walkway across the street directly below. The apartment has a view from every room including ocean view from the bedroom and bathroom. The furnishings are sparse but adequate. The kitchen is supplied with everything one might need including coffee-maker and microwave; the shower works well and there is plenty of hot water. The king bed was firm and very comfortable. All linens and towels are supplied. That being said, this is Mexico, and not everything is perfect. We had some trouble with the vertical blinds, some of which were broken and not functioning. If you are renting this property, be sure to have a prior telephone conversation with the owner to arrange your check-in. It is also a good idea to look at the area on Google street view. We had to direct the taxi driver to the property.

a review from a university professor

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I really enjoyed staying in Nardi House. Breathtaking views—truly best in town. The best possible location—right between the downtown (historic center) with its beautiful square and nice restaurant, and the boardwalk. At the same time, the gated house is located on a small street, which gives you a sense of seclusion and privacy. Along with its elegant and simple architecture, the house is a perfect place for a relaxing break (our first visit, in 2010) as well as a working vacation. I was preparing a lecture course in a University where I teach and an article for publication. We were taking a full advantage of waking, swimming in the ocean, and taking horseback riding tours of the Isla in the morning, working during the hottest hours of the day inside of a cool nice house, and going for a wal to the downtown at night. Finally, having a housekeeper and a maid in a house was extremely convenient, with all small requests being immediately taken care of.

This was just what I was looking for, a beautiful view of the ocean from the unit and the infinity pool, easy walking distance to the ocean, historical sites, and many restaurants, comfortable accommodations with a spacious yard, and I felt very secure.

New Years in Mazatlan

  • 5 of 5

The property was exactly as described and in good order. The caretakers Susana and Pablo took great care of us during our stay. The location of the property is directly above (overseeing) the main north/south costal road with a panoramic view of the ocean. A two minute short walk down the street puts you on the board walk next to the Shrimp Bucket (a bit of a land mark and on every map) which stretches miles in each direction. We walked the boardwalk everyday with a nice ocean breeze to accompany us. Mazatlan has unique open air cabs and $5 will get you anywhere in town. We usually walked everywhere but when shopping the Taxis were very handy. The center of Old Town is a five minute walk (east) from the Shrimp Bucket, and just a few blocks further is an open market with fresh sea food, poultry, fruits, vegetables, etc. We will be back to Mazatlan and enjoy this property again.

Owner's Response: Dear Kerry and companion; I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at what we consider to be a very unique property in Mazatlan. Thank you for the fantastic and "insider's view" of your review posted to our VRBO site. We would greatly appreciate referrals; be sure that those to whom you have referred our property make it known to us. Likewise, my brother lives in Salt Lake and used to own a restaurant in Park City. We have been talking for years about a possible family reunion location. Please send me the listing number for your VRBO unit. Sincerely, Sincerely
