About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 8)

FREE WIFI This cottage is on one of the most pristine lakes in the United States with 90% of it's shoreline in national forestland. Unlike many other southern lakes, the Lake Santeetlah water level is maintained at high levels year round. On this 8 mile lake there is an abundance of spectacular scenic views, rope swings to get your heart pumping fast, short and tall rocks and cliffs to jump off of & quiet coves to explore with few if any boats or Jet skis in sight on most days.

(No houseboats or cigarette boats permitted on lake)

This house has 3 small bedrooms and sleeps eight. With a large 600 square foot screened-in sleeping porch you will love relaxing on the porch with the dock in sight. Or whipping up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen.

This cottage is in a quiet neighborhood on a quiet lake. If you like loud music and screaming and yelling late at night, this is not the place for you.

~ This property has 40 feet of lakefront. The dock is 12' x 16'. You will love swimming in the crystal clear water of Lake Santeetlah. Our cove faces west so we watch a wide, wondrous sunset. In the daytime, part of the dock is in the shade and part in the sun. You can dive and play in the water and dry off fast in the sun while others can sit in the shade watching, cheering on, reading etc... We had not considered these attributes (a shady spot on the water) when looking for a lake house but are thankful they are this way. This beautiful mountain lake home is about 1/2 hour from Bryson City, 1.5 hours from Asheville, 2 hours from Knoxville & about 3 from Atlanta.

Thank you for your interest!

About Jesse & Tom Callahan

We are a happy family living in Asheville, N.C. We are not be able to use our great lakefront cottage as much as we'd like so we are making it available to others. It thrills us for you to enjoy our small slice of perfection!

Jesse & Tom Callahan purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Jesse & Tom Callahan chose Robbinsville

We looked for a quiet lakefront property not too far from Asheville with pristine clean, high water levels year round.

A beautiful lake!

What makes this cottage unique

This is a NO SMOKING property and most well behaved dogs are allowed. Sorry, no cats.

It is hard to imagine a lake with no people. This is about as uncrowded as you can get on a pristine lake in the U.S.

The house is bright yet shaded.

Great get away

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathered from different parts of the country and we had a great time. The cabin isn't fancy compared to some but it was wonderful for us. We spent a lot of time down on a large deck right on the water in a secluded cove. Kayak and paddle board were provided. From this location sunsets over the mountains were amazing as well as watching thunderstorms roll in. The enclosed front porch was our family's second most popular spot with comfortable chairs and sofas overlooking the lake. Our 2 daughters actually slept on the connecting porch which has a queen sized bed. We would definitely recommend it unless you want a super fancy cabin

Enjoy the REAL flavor of the lake!

It's with some hesitation that I write this review. You know how you happen upon something that you feel is a treasure, share it with others, and word spreads, then YOU suddenly have limited access to "YOUR" find? I don't want that to happen with this sweet lake house; however, it's not fair to the fantastic owners to not let others in on the secret. This was our second time staying in this lake house. Here's the deal: This is one of the older homes on the lake (we LOVE that), so it offers that wonderful campy feel. There are NO steps from your car to the back door; however, as with all the houses, there are stairs down to the lake and (NEW) dock. The front porch, overlooking the lake and mountains, has got to be one of the best. It offers a place to dine, ample seating, a gas fireplace/stove, and a great place to sleep. It's where we spent most of our time on both visits, and where we always ate when not out on the lake. The kitchen is well-stocked, though no dishwasher (typical of these lake houses) and offers a large eating area. The living room is bright with two sets of sliding glass doors looking out to the screened porch. Despite being heavily shaded, the house is bright. The heavy shade and being on the lake result in humidity in the house, but it's not anything you can't deal with. Due to the one bath situation, you'd probably want to stay here only with those with whom you're rather close. :)

This is the perfect place to really get away. Cell phone reception is extremely limited, but there is wi-fi at the house. We don't know about the satellite/cable situation. We only turned on the television one evening to watch one of the movies in the collection. Restaurants are limited in the area. We preferred to cook at the house almost every night. Also, this is a "dry" county. You'll have to drive quite a way to purchase alcohol, so bring it with you. You're entrenched in nature here and on a lake, so enjoy it!

The owners are truly great! Both times they got back with us immediately. We had no problems during either stay, but I feel that they would have been very responsive. And both times they welcomed our dogs. All in all, this is THE BEST deal on Lake Santeetlah. Now you're in on the secret.

The Tail of the Dragon is a popular motorcycle route going north of the lake to Tennessee. The Appalachian Trail runs through Robbinsville from Georgia to Maine. Several lakes are in the area as well as hiking and rafting areas. The Joyce Kilmer forest is on the north end of the lake.
