Enjoy your stay at our cozy cottage on Manistee Lake. Decorated in cottage style. Clean, cozy, and really cute. A place where wonderful memories can be made!
Manistee Lake is especially popular for families with younger children as the sandy bottom extends out and is shallow and safe for play. Fish, waterski, swim, the lake is perfect for all. You can use our row boat and cruise the lake.
Grayling is really big on Canoeing. There are a lot of places to go. Shell Haven is the closest on Manistee river.

Met all of our needs for family getaway!
Just what we needed as a family of 5 to hit the slopes nearby. Brought our own cage for our dog. No wifi allowed for family time board games & DVD/VHS movies! Bring towels & food. Very nice, quiet area. Very clean.
Cozy cottage, but no clean bedding.
The cottage was quaint and cozy. We had 8 adults stay and we weren't too cramped. We were only there for one night so it fit our needs. The beds were a little uncomfortable but that's pretty normal for rental houses. My only real complaint was that was almost no clean bedding. The house instructions are to strip your bed and throw the sheets on the floor before you leave. There were piles of dirty sheets in each room with no replacement sheets to be found. Only 3 out of the 7 beds had sheets on them but nobody slept under their comforters because we were unsure if the bedding was clean. The queen bed, the bottom bunk and two of the twin beds upstairs all were without sheets. If they had clean sheets folded on the bed, or told you to bring your own bedding, I wouldn't have minded making my own bed but I was a little disappointed having to sleep on top of the blankets. Overall the house is nice but I just recommend bringing all of your own bedding so you don't have to play the guessing game. The rest of the house was clean. Decent cooking space with a microwave, coffee pot, gas range and a decent sized fridge.
Very good beds. Good one night stay on our way farther north.
Great Location! Some Minor Maint/Cleaning Issues
Had a great time using the boat on the lake and swimming at the park. Cottage was well appointed with kitchen utensils and equipment; books, movies, games, extra folding chairs, plenty of firewood - everything we could want!
Although the cottage is advertised as sleeping up to 8, the water heater is only big enough to provide hot water for one shower. Floors (both kitchen laminate and all carpets and rugs were filthy! Front fence is rotted and falling down. Exterior of building covered with dirt and spider webs. Well water - strong rust/sulfur oder and taste.
All-in-all, a fun, cozy place to stay in a great location. Just needs a deep cleaning and bigger water heater!
Not Quite What We Expected
We were looking for a secluded cabin in Northern Michigan to spend with our dog who doesn't get much of a chance to run in our apartment complex. She loves the beach so this rental seemed perfect.
Unfortunately, this is packed in to houses on all sides (the pictures don't show this well). The beach is TINY and was packed with locals. The photo of the beach is the entire beach. Also, dogs aren't allowed on the beach. The cottage isn't on the lake, so views aren't great either (there is another row of houses between the lake and this cottage).
The yard is mostly dirt and there was dog waste around from what I assume to be a previous renter. Most of the beds were unmade with all of the bedding on the floor, so we weren't sure if they had been cleaned or not. We also used the grill, but it had tons of bugs in it. It took some work to clean them out and get it ready to use (igniter doesn't work, must use lighter or match).
There is no AC (or if there is, it wasn't working) and we had serious trouble trying to cool the place down. Even with doors open and fans blowing out we couldn't get the temp to drop under the high 70s even when it was in the 60s at night. Luckily, there are plenty of fans to keep you cool.
Colleen was very friendly and accommodating before the trip, and we were only there for a single night so we didn't bring up any issues during the stay.
This would be a decent place to stay if you wanted to use it as a "home base" to visit the surrounding areas... we often stay on Torch Lake and in Traverse City and there are a ton of beautiful areas to visit within an hour or so. However, you'd probably be better off staying closer to those areas. Kalkaska (the city about 5 miles away) provides a good place to grocery shop if needed, but that's about it. I would not recommend coming here as a "destination." There simply isn't much to do.
The home itself is not bad. Technically you could sleep 8 people here, but it would be very crowded. The kitchen was very clean and for the most part so was the rest of the house. The DVDs were a nice thing to be able to do a at night (there was absolutely zero cell service and no wi-fi... which is fine for a vacation house, but it's been so long since I've been to a house without it!).
Unfortunately, this home wasn't for us... but I appreciate the owner's flexibility and helpfulness when we were planning our stay.
Very cute and very clean
Had a wonderful visit. Colleen was very accommodating and very responsive. I would stay again if I needed. No cable but lots of movies. Who goes up north to watch tv anyway?
fire pit in back yard, chiminea in front yard, hammock, row boat.
