About Linda Risley
I grew up and still live on Mount Desert Island. I own Gordius Garage, lobster fish (that's my boat you might see it in the harbor when you stay at Captain's Quarters), ice race in the winter months, and enjoy Nascar.
Why Linda Risley chose Bass Harbor
This property sits right on the shore of Bass Harbor where I lobster fish and race in the Bass Harbor Lobster Boat Races. It over looks the harbor and has constantly changing scenery based on the tide! Makes it a unique place to stay with ever changing views and delights. You haven't experienced Maine until you have a fresh cooked lobster sitting on the deck with views that are stunning in every direction. Sunrise and sunset offer quiet times for relaxing. This is the 'Quietside' of Mount Desert Island away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor but close enough to enjoy Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor with an easy drive!
What makes this Cottage unique
Close to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor with stunning views of Bass Harbor. Right on the shore with un-obscured views of the ocean and this working harbor!

Beautiful view, great location, spacious cabin!
We had so much fun on our trip and this cabin was so comfortable! We felt at home in this clean and roomy cabin and loved the location. We kayaked right from the dock and had beautiful views from the porch! Highly reccomend!
The deck offers great views of the harbor, nothing more relaxing that watching the boats come and go and listening to the sound of the water! The sunrise with a cup of coffee along with the sunset and a cool beverage make this spot a joy for everyone!
A deck that will we found very hard to leave each day...
Clean, roomy cabin with all the kitchen equipment and quality linens. Comfortable beds as well. Rain or shine the cabin is a great spot to explore the island!
Fabulous home in a wonderful area with breathtaking view!
We have just spent a week at Captains Quarters and can't recommend it enough. It was so comfortable we had to push ourselves out to explore the park. Loved the gas fire, balcony was wonderful although being the end of season it was cold but that didn't stop us. Linda handled all my enquires efficiently and quickly. The bed was supremely comfortable and waking up to that view each morning was wonderful. We walked to Thurstons and The Ketch and enjoyed the shops in southwest harbor and did a number of good hikes. I would come back in a heart beat and was loathed to leave!
Seen Better Days.. Needs Renovation
Our visit started out rather poorly. We showed up to a house full of cigarette butts and beer cans laying everywhere. Evidently the cleaning lady went on a bender the day we arrived or the night before and didn't bother to clean up after herself. She also left under garments and her cell phone behind. The fact that the cabin is a non-smoking residence was the least of our worries. We also came home one day and found the front door wide open after everyone watched as we locked it when we left. The state police showed up that night and took the report. Fortunately nothing appeared to be missing. I know you're probably thinking we should have gotten some money refunded but no offers were made. There are literally thousands of places to stay in the area so the Captain's Quarters is not one of my recommendations.
This experience is not typical for our guests (please see our other reviews). We have never experienced this before in the over 50 years of renting this family property and, quite frankly; we’re shocked at both instances. The cleaning person has been let go, and we are gathering information about installing security cameras at the cottages. We reported to the State Police as soon as we learned of the incident. Unfortunately, they were responding to three accidents that night and arrived as soon as they could and apologized for taking so long. We have never dealt with anything like this before and are doing everything we can to insure this doesn’t happen again. We are very sorry for the inconveniences you experienced and thought you were satisfied with your stay outside of these two issues we resolved quickly. We would be happy to discuss some sort of compensation with you if you would like to give us a call.
Great views and proximity to Acadia without the tourists
Great views and location. Sunsets from the deck are unbelievable. Everything there that you need to have a great vacation. Lobstermen start working at 0430 right outside the bedroom.
Great place to stay if planning on hiking Acadia. Close to many trails and not as "touristy" as Bar Harbor.
Very nice location and accomodations
We spent the week there for a "EASTERN" vacation as we live in Colorado. We greatly enjoyed our time there, particularly on the deck. Watching the boats come in and out, watching the tied go in and out, it was great. One must go south of the cottage to the lobster pound and meet the fellow who runs the place. He is right out of a Hemmingway novel!
Bar Harbor offers whale watching cruises, light house cruise and oceanic wildlife tours including puffin tour. Local shops offer a quaint shopping experience. Acadia National Park with beautiful Sand Beach, Cadillac Mountain, Park Loop Road, Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond House and Wildwood Stables offers horse back riding and carriage rides along the carriage trails. Hiking, Biking, rock climbing and ocean kayaking all available throughout Mount Desert Island. Local cuisine of fresh Maine lobster, clams, shrimp, scallops and various other seafood options can be found in most of the local restaurants! Check out the Acadia Zoo and taste local brews at Acadia Brewing Company, Mount Desert Island and the surrounding area offers a wide range of activities we are sure that will make this a vacation you won't soon forget. Come join us for some good Downeast hospitality!

VRBO has us with a 60 day notice with 100% refund if you cancel, what they left out is: only if we are able to rent the property again for that same time. I've tried to get them to change this but they are not very owner friendly. I also want them to let us tell you that my boss owns the cottages and a Garage. I work for him at the Garage M-F 8am to 5pm and that is the only time emails are answered. Therefore, there is an after hours contact number that will be given to you for any issues outside normal business hours. Thank you for your interest in the BH Beachfront Cottages Captain's Quarters I look forward to hearing from you! Linda
