Overview

About the property

Beautiful Modern Style Home, 3 Bedrooms+Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps 11), Open Land

Unique architectural style. Beds for 11 in this beautiful and spacious 3 BR + loft, 2 full baths house with open floor plan, on 1.5 acres off of Ski Hill Road, between Driggs and Grand Targhee Resort (15 minute drive to Grand Targhee). Air conditioning installed--rare for Teton Valley! Great views of Grand Teton and surrounding mountain ranges through huge picture windows, plenty of privacy, and peace and quiet. It is a 5 minute drive into town, where there is an excellent, modern grocery store, a fine wine shop, several outdoors shops and outfitters, and many other stores, as well as several very good restaurants. It is 9.7 miles (about a 15 min. drive) up to the ski area, where there is fantastic downhill and nordic skiing, as well as a tubing hill.

Grand Targhee consistently gets more snowfall than any other ski area in Idaho, and has unbelievable powder skiing! Additionally, throughout the valley there are multiple opportunities for nordic skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.

When the snow melts, the trails are great for hiking and mountain biking, and there are fantastic outdoors music concerts and festivals. There is also fabulous fly-fishing in the area with 3 world-renowned rivers (S. Fork Snake, Henry's Fork, and Teton) and ~ 20 productive smaller streams within 40 minutes.

We are a 45 min drive over the pass to Jackson Hole, and an hour drive up to Yellowstone National Park. Many people say that the summers in the Teton Valley are even better than the winters--come see for yourself!

For details about skiing / snowboarding / nordic skiing during the winter and music festivals / mountain biking / hiking during the summer at Grand Targhee, check out Grand Targhee's website.

Amenities in the house include:

Main floor:

* Master BR with king size bed, huge walk-in closet, and large bathroom that includes oversized, soaker tub with whirlpool jets, shower, and double sinks.

* 2nd BR with king size bed

* 2nd full bath with shower / bathtub combo

* Large great room / den with incredible views through the many large picture windows, and TV with Roku for streaming content (no broadcast channels)

* Dining area with dining table with leaves and chairs that can accommodate up to 10 people

* Huge, full kitchen with all appliances (including Kitchenaid mixer, full-size food processor, Vitamix blender, and large crock pot)

* Full size washer and drier

2nd floor:

* Loft area with TV / DVD (no broadcast channels), 70% sized game table (ping pong / pool; air hockey does not currently function), and full size fold-down futon

* 3rd bedroom with 2 single beds and 1 queen size bed

* Anteroom with full size bed that can sleep 2 additional people

Please note that we maintain our house in a "western rustic" style that is conservation-minded. The high valley meadow surrounding the house is beautiful, and we do not trim it during the summer except within a one foot area next to the front sidewalk and around the back patio and horseshoe pit area. This is common for this area. We have not installed a lawn because that is not natural to the area, and unnecessarily requires extra water. We maintain a very comfortable house and furniture and bedding for our guests. Simply, this house and property are in a great location with spectacular views, excellent comfort, and many great amenities which we love.

Please come check out our house, and one of our favorite places on Earth. And please let me know if you have any questions or need any recommendations during your stay. I want you to be thrilled with your stay in our house and your time in the Teton Valley!

About Perry Brown

Perry is a pediatrician who teaches at a family medicine residency. Desiree is a sociology professor at a nearby university. Together, we have 1 daughter and 5 sons. We love to do just about anything outdoors as a family.

Perry Brown purchased this house in 2011

Why Perry Brown chose Driggs

We discovered Driggs and the Teton Valley back in 1999, and immediately fell in love with the area. During the winter, the powder skiing at Grand Targhee is UNBELIEVABLE, plus there are many different places to nordic ski and snowshoe. The summers are fantastic, with beautiful weather, cool nights, and unending outdoor activities that include hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, and many great outdoor music concerts and festivals. Throw in the great restaurants and outdoor shops in Driggs, how nice the locals are here, that Jackson Hole is 40 minutes away, and that Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are only an hour away for some fun day trips, and you have my heaven on earth--Driggs and the Teton Valley.

Perfect all-purpose getaway near Tetons!

  • 5 of 5

Affectionately dubbed the “Crooked Cabin” by our kids, we have stayed here three times over the last few years, and we keep coming back! The unique architecture creates amazing views and a spacious feel. Comfortable sleeping spaces for many people make this ideal for a larger family gathering or just some space to roam and relax. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need for utensils and cookware. Washer/dryer on ground floor very handy. House is always very well stocked with all amenities you might need, clean and well-maintained. Owner and caretaker very responsive if any issues or questions come up during your stay. The garage and front mudroom make winter and outdoor sports equipment storage easy. Watching the sunrise over the Tetons through large picture windows is unforgettable. Cozy living area with gas fireplace is perfect for winter nights. Easy access to sunny back patio also perfect for warmer weather lounging or winter sunbathing. Large property great for kids to play within view of the house, and horseshoe pit for outdoor summer fun. Well-stocked game cupboard and pool/air hockey table keep all ages entertained! The location is very convenient – 12 minutes to skier dropoff at Grand Targhee! Also very close to Nordic ski trails at Alta School and Teton Canyon. Near the Teton River, so moose and other wildlife sightings are common. Short 5 minute drive into Driggs for several good restaurants and grocery shopping. We have only stayed here in winter, but the summer opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking are boundless. We absolutely recommend this place to our friends and family. Enjoy your stay! We will definitely be coming back again soon.

Great location, fun house

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this house with 2 other couples for a few nights - we’re all in our 60’s. We liked the open plan of the kitchen/dining/living area, the outdoor patio next to the meadow and the 2 comfortable king bedrooms downstairs. The upstairs bedroom is made more for kids because there’s a tight winding staircase to get up there and no bathroom on that level. It was a little rough on the couple who stayed up there, but I’m sure kids over about 7yrs old would absolutely love it. The house gets a lot of lovely natural light, although there aren’t any blinds or curtains in the main part of the house to block the direct sun.

Owner's Response: Hi, Diane! Thank you for your review. You and your group were great guests! I'm really happy that you enjoyed the house and your stay. The upstairs bedroom and loft sleeping areas are more kid-friendly, and we (and many guests) have enjoyed having that area be the kids' refuge and sleep zone. It is a perfect area for 4 - 7 kids to sleep in beds and futons, and have space to themselves to laugh and play, watch movies on the DVD and TV, and play ping pong and pool. We have also prioritized having high quality and comfortable mattresses and bedding upstairs, so that a large group of adults can also comfortably stay and sleep up there. The 2 bedrooms downstairs, each with a king bed, are more adult-friendly, and are right next to the bathrooms, which is a nice convenience. We would love to host your group again, and we do offer a discount to those who return for a 2nd stay--so please let us know if you return to the area and wish to stay again in our house. Best wishes!

house was well supplied with everything you might need

  • 4 of 5

House was well supplied. Downstairs nice, but upstairs bedroom and loft only beds. Our peaceful and relaxing morning by the mountains we planned didn't quite turn out that way with construction next door.

Owner's Response: Hi, Penny. We enjoyed hosting you and your group! I am happy that you enjoyed the house and that you felt like it was supplied well--this is a priority for us. Indeed, as you note, the upstairs bedroom is primarily for sleeping. The loft area does have a fold-down futon for potential sleeping, but it also has a TV and DVD player, a recliner, and a game table (70% sized ping-pong and pool table) that many guests enjoy. I am sorry to hear that the nearby construction of a well pump house, across the street and about 400 feet away, disturbed your morning of relaxation. That project has frustrated several of our neighbors and our homeowner's association also, and, recently, one of the trucks working on the project even knocked over our mailbox. The good news is that the construction is nearly finished. Indeed, I and my family stayed in the house August 13 - 19, shortly after you were there, and we had peaceful mornings sitting on our front deck, facing the area where the construction had been occurring. There was no construction activity or noise the entire week. I am guessing that there was a lot more construction activity the days that you were at the house, though, and I can understand how that would have been disruptive. I wish that this was something that was under my control, and I'm sorry that you experienced this. I hope that the remainder of your travels were fantastic, and I appreciate your review and feedback.

We enjoyed the location, very peaceful and pretty

  • 4 of 5

Property was clean and tidy and well equipped, lots of extras like toiletries and kitchen condiments which were appreciated. The master bedroom was lovely. We enjoyed cooking on the gas bbq and sitting outside around the fire. The only negative was the upstairs bedroom which was too hot to comfortably sleep in.

Owner's Response: Hi, Susan--thank you for your review. We enjoyed hosting you! I'm very happy that you enjoyed the house, facilities, property, and area so much! I understand that the upstairs bedroom was warm on some of the evenings, which does occasionally happen during the rare very hot day during the summer over there. I know that you were there during an unusually hot few days. Usually, the upstairs bedroom cools quickly in the evening if you open the window and turn on the fan in the windowsill, as the outside night temperature drops into the upper 40's or low 50's (Fahrenheit) even after the hottest of days at that altitude--I wonder if you tried this? The air conditioning in the house does a great job of cooling off the two downstairs bedrooms and the rest of the house, but the upstairs bedroom does tend to warm up more during unusually hot days. I'm sorry that that bedroom felt warm during some of your nights. I hope that your travels were and continue to be fun and relaxing! Thank you again for staying in our vacation rental home!
