About Alma Lightbody
My husband and I have owned the property since 1993. We built the cottage shortly after and used it with family and friends for 10 years. In the last 8 years we completed building our retirement home on the same property and live there full time. The cottage is now available for rent and we love to share this beautiful location with others. The cottage has its own view and is separated from our home by trees.
Alma Lightbody purchased this Cottage in 1993
Why Alma Lightbody chose Southern Gulf Islands
The self contained cottage has all the amenities of a full house. It is private and has beautiful water views on 3 sides. We had a wish list for the property of our dreams for retirement and traveled to all the Southern Gulf islands over several summers til we found this perfect spot. Enjoy your stay!
What makes this Cottage unique
Renters have access to the beach and boat dock, with use of a canoe and rowboat (along with life jackets) and a crab trap. The cottage has large outer decks, a fold out futon, swinging chairs, varied deck furniture and an outside BBQ . This provides full outside living surrounded by glass railings, a mixture of trees types and a stunning water view.

Lovely cozy cabin in a beautiful area with a fantastic view
We really enjoyed our time at the cottage. It was very comfortable and cozy. The location is amazing and the view is absolutely stunning. We had a great time catching crabs off the dock, using the rowboat and canoe, and playing frisbee golf on the course near by. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely stay on Pender Island.
Thank you Cassandra. Sometimes it is hard to entertain young boys on a quiet winter retreat. Sounds like all of you did a great job of enjoying the moment and your surroundings.

Great stay. Definitely will come back
Great stay. Definitely will come back. Beautiful view and beautiful cottage
Thank you Christian for your review. Sorry the weather wasn't perfect but it will be this summer. We appreciate how well you treated the cottage. It makes us feel good. With Light, Alma & Mack
Bright, peaceful, comfortable and a terrific view.
Alma and Mack, thank you again for letting us stay at your fabulous cottage this past weekend. We weren't exaggerating when we said it is the nicest one we have stayed in so far.
Mike asked me what I look for when I pick a place for us to stay, and I said I look at the bedroom, that it doesn't look outdated, or has a bedspread that was probably embroidered by someone's grandmother. And I look at the living room furniture, because it's quite possible we may have to be sitting inside due to the weather. Your cottage was wonderfully decorated, and the new reclining chairs you have are extremely comfortable. So often rentals are where all the outdated and tired things end up from the renters main house. This is certainly not the case with your cottage. It was a delight.
Thank you, Lynne and Mike for such special review and glad you like the new recliners. We make a point making some kind of update each year to keep the surroundings pleasant and in good shape. We enjoyed your visit, as did our puppy, Callum and look forward to seeing you this fall. Alma & Mack
A Very Memorable Family Holiday
The cottage at Ainslie Point is perfectly appointed for a family of 4. It is extremely clean, has all the comforts of home including high speed internet, a bonus for our teens. The owners Mac and Alma are generous hosts and very knowledgeable of the great hikes, fishing spots, local history, shopping and best eating on the island. They are the perfect hosts, balancing hospitality, yet allowing our family lots of privacy. This was indeed a memorable family vacation. We will be back and thank you once again Mac and Alma for sharing the beauty of your property with us. Bless you with all good things always!
WOW.....what a find!
We enjoyed a wonderful holiday at Ainslie Point Cottage. She is in a beautiful private spot overlooking the sheltered waters of Bedwell Harbour, a perfect escape for those who relish a quieter pace and direct beach access. Its setting forces you to slow down, breathe deeply, listen to the lapping of the gentle beach waters below you and to marvel at life around you whether that be hummingbirds within arm's reach, the grazing of uncaring deer nearby or the relaxed slow moving boat traffic below. Ainslie Point Cottage was a perfect getaway for us as it had everything we needed for a great time. The cottage itself was very clean, well equipped and its many decks meant that we could always find sunshine or shade whatever we fancied. Our favorite perch was on the front deck eyeing the crab traps from afar and hoping for results. Our favorite cottage time? You guessed it, feasting on crab on the front deck with the sun setting and a chilled glass of wine by our side. The proximity of Beaumont Marine Park and Poet's Cove (only a canoe paddle away) and the start of the Mt. Norman hiking trails (only a short walk away) meant that we could be as active as we wanted to be or not! Ainslie Point truly had it all including two wonderful hosts, Mack and Alma, who made us feel totally at home right from the get go. Our time there, albeit short, was perfect in every sense and we look forward to visiting them and her again and again…….unless of course everyone reading this decides to go!!
With each visitor we are convinced that renting our our cottage is the best thing we have done. We enjoy the powerful energy that comes with these visits. We learn so much from what the visitors experience and enjoy in different ways from our location and Pender Island as a whole.
We stayed at this cottage for a week this summer, and the property is exceptional. We wanted to read, rest and relax, and this was the perfect spot for that.
We have rented several cottages on the Gulf Islands over the last few years, and this was truly the most lovely. The location on the south part of the island is superb (you are close to the town - about a 10 minute drive - where you can pick up groceries and other supplies - but far enough away to feel 'away from it all'). The views from the cottage and its deck are stunning, and we loved the open layout of the cottage itself.
The cottage is well-stocked (we prepared almost all of our meals using the cottage's kitchen during our weeklong stay, and the kitchen has every item that you will need). The property is spotless, and while there are touches to make the cottage homey (such as photos and books), there is no clutter.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property.
As owners, we are always pleased to be able to share this piece of property, we love so dearly, with others. In addition, the high quality of renters it attracts never ceases to amaze and delight us.
