About Jim Kerner

Born in Alabama, raised in Oklahoma and was living in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Though there are many beautiful areas, we always come back to Maggie Valley.

Jim Kerner purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Jim Kerner chose Cranberry Falls

High enough to have spectacular views, but easy access. Right in the middle of everything we and our guests may want to do.

What makes this cabin unique

We have it all! Convenient to all the points of interest, yet secluded and quiet. You will love the sight of red crested wood peckers, the sound of owls, and groups of wild turkeys that enjoy wondering through. That first cup of coffee on the east side of the deck, watching as the sun comes up across the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have had the most amazing vacation here! Your cabin is the coziest home away from home ever. It is in the perfect spot for the best views, not too close to anyone else, so you feel along in the mountains. It is so relaxing with the furnace and gas fireplace to keep you warm but big glass doors and windows to enjoy the view without freezing. Thank you so much for opening your home to us, we are truly appreciative and would like to make this a yearly venture. We had such a wonderful time.

Perfect for a getaway!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful little gem in the mountains above Maggie Valley! Perfectly nestled between Maggie Valley and Cherokee, you can't go wrong. Jim was very attentive and within a few hours of getting in he emailed to make sure everything was perfect, and it was! The views are stunning and watching the sunset from the hot tub is a must! We will definitely be coming back!

Thunderstruck Cabin is perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed this cozy cabin. The views are spectacular! The living room/ dining/ kitchen areas are open and spacious. The kitchen has all the normal appliances, as well as both a Kuerig and regular brew coffee makers, and a stackable washer and dryer. The power went out the second day we were there in the morning for a short period and Jim the owner offered to bring over a generator, which was very nice. We were there during a very cold spell and the cabin was very warm and cozy for us Floridians! My husband met both Smokie and Radar and both are very sweet and friendly, sadly kept missing them. The cabin is about 4,800 feet elevation and the road to the cabin is easy to drive. All and all everything about our stay was perfect and we definitely would stay again and recommend anyone to choose staying a this sweet cabin.

Very cozy and quite getaway.

  • 5 of 5

House was perfect for my boyfriend and I to take a mini vacation. Very comfortable. Views were amazing. The hot tub was wonderful for the cold nights. Loved the fact that it was located in remote area but also very convenient to Maggie Valley and Cherokee. The road to the house was well maintained which made it very easy to go up and down. Also, the owner was quick to respond to any concerns or questions I had about the property. Loved the house and had a great time.

From the moment we turned into the driveway we knew this place was perfect for relaxing! From the view to warm glass logs you knew RELAXING was ahead. Yes we did RELAX! Everything we needed we had. Zoe & Bella, our dogs, had a great time laying in the sun! Thanks Jim for sharing your home with us!

Great stay at Thunderstruck Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Overall, my family and I really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was cozy but big enough for all of us. Everything was well stocked, dishes, appliances, towels, etc... it was a fairly easy drive up the gravel-not too steep or far. The location was great as just a short distance to gas, stores, etc. Soco Falls was only a 5 minute drive! Our daughter was excited to see the dogs wandering the area. Gas fireplace was great and warmed up the room quickly. Wi-fi was strong considering the location of the cabin. Had a fairly good view of the sunset from the balcony. Showers were nice and hot and warmed up fast. After a long day of hiking, driving, or being out, it was very nice to just come back to the cabin and relax.

If I would suggest anything, it would be to have unlimited wi-fi. One less thing to worry about on vacation is to get cut off at night from being online if needed. The second minor issue was shelf space in the master bathroom. There was no where to place bathroom items and was a bit difficult to be organized.

As for cleanliness, beds were nice and towels and dishes were washed and ready for us. I would recommend that the cleaning service also dusts for cobwebs. Found several throughout the cabin, some right above our heads in the doorways.

I would definitely stay here again if we decided to stay in the Maggie Valley area. It had a lot of charming qualities and even our toddler said she didn't want to leave when we were packing to come home!

Owner's Response: I'm sorry but there is no option for unlimited internet. I already have the largest data plan anyone offers but it is all satellite and is always limited.
