Perfect location, tastefully decorated house

  • 5 of 5

We loved mostly every second of our stay at the Griffin House. I'll start my review with the "bad" to get them out of the way and then concentrate on the positive.

We some an issue with a toilet which was fixed within 24 hours. The biggest issue that we had during our stay and I am not sure if there is something that our host could do about it, was the Internet - it sucked!! Not sure if it was the router that was dropping our connections constantly or the service provider, but the wireless connectivity was sub-par.

With those two issues out of the way, I can move on to what we appreciated about this place and the hosts.

The Location: is just perfect, at the bottom of the Acropolis, literally 60 seconds walk from the Hop On Hop Off buses. There are small shops and bakeries, literally within a minute walk, so anything we needed, from groceries to fresh pastries, take out gyros and souvlaki's as well as beer and wine, is right there. The charming Plaka district with hundreds of tavernas and souvenir shops is right there, so finding a place to eat every night was not an issue.

The House: is a rare gem. The decor: pictures, rugs, wood details, the high ceilings, etc. made our stay a delight. The living area is spacious and so are the bedrooms. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the dishes, cutlery and utensils that we needed. The hosts even left a bottle of red wine on the table for us - how gracious. The beds were comfortable with clean bed sheets and plenty of towels. Air conditioning was available in every room, including the living area. The terrace of the upper level was a quiet space where we enjoyed our coffees in the mornings and a drink late at night. The bathrooms had lots of hot water and enough pressure. The art books collection together with the DVD-s in the living room was a nice addition and gave us a sense of the owners interests.

Conclusion: I would highly recommend the Griffin House in Athens and if I ever end up in this part of the world, I will definitely stay there again.

Want to return immediately!

  • 5 of 5

Almost hate to give this gem a good review-worried it won't be available next time I book if too many people find out about it. The location is the perfect starting point for all the sites in Athens. We easily walked everywhere we wanted to go. And felt 100% safe doing so!

Prior to arrival, Aris (who was beyond helpful) was quick to answer questions and set up an airport pick up with Spiros. Spiros is a delightful man full of knowledge about Athens and more than willing to share it. Made for the perfect ride from the airport. My advice is if Spiros gives you advice, take it!! He didn't steer us wrong once! While there we had a couple questions, and within a half hour of emailing Aris, I received an answer. Also would've been available by phone but our questions weren't urgent...

The house was just as advertised. Even though it was hot (100F) our favorite place was the rooftop. We would sit up there after a long day of walking and enjoy the shade and a glass of wine. Washer was a plus also as Athens was only first stop onour journey. Left with clean clothes...

ILastly, I cannot stress enough that you need to grab breakfast every morning from the extraordinary bakery that is less than a 2 minute walk away. You will not regret it!

This house is perfect. If you visiting Athens-jump at the chance to stay here! Don't go the boring hotel route!

Comfortable House, Great Location!

We loved our stay here. It was super easy to get to from the metro. It had a great location close to the Acropolis museum, close walk to many restaurants. It was also within easy walking distance to Adrianou Street for shopping.

A very nice house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice, but the upstairs bedroom was rather a challenge to get to since it was only accessible by a spiral staircase or a very steep outside stairway. For the two downstairs bedrooms, the shower was on the other side of the living room, which was no big deal for us.

Live like a local in this home with lots of character.

In a wonderful location. Tucked into a quiet little street but only steps from everything you want to see near the Acropolis. Although they provide internet, we were unable to connect to it for the first 24 hours. And the breaker for hot water heater tripped. Response to our issues were delayed so after a cold shower and some trouble shooting we figured it out on our own. But over all I would highly recommend it!

Great house in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in this house with family of 7. The house was exactly as advertised, and had plenty of room for the 7 of us. A few things that really stood out about this house:

- The pantry was well stocked to start our stay with items such as coffee, spices, beer, wine, and other various food items and toiletries.

- Spiros and his colleague were amazing. They were waiting for us at the airport, and promptly took us straight to the apartment. Once there, Spiros showed us around the apartment and pointed out local highlights. We had also arranged a tour with Spiros to Cape Sounion prior to arriving. When we arrived, Spiros made some recommendations on alternative tours to experience more of the Greek history. We took him up on his offer, and arranged a full day tour to Corinth, Mycenae, Tomb of Agamemnon, town of Nafplio, and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. It was an incredible tour and worth every penny. On the way there was a stop for yogurt and honey that was simply outstanding. Spiros is very knowledgeable and was a great host.

- The location of this apartment was amazing. Everything was in walking distance, including the Acropolis, the Roman Agora, the Ancient Greek Agora, Plaka, the Flea Market, etc. Right around the corner from the apartment was a small bakery that was wonderful. I'll remember the smell of fresh bead each morning as we walked up the street to the bakery.

When we visit Greece again, we will not seek out any other accommodations. This place simply cannot be beat.
