Breathtaking views abound in this small village perched atop a hill and surrounded by farmlands and forests. Whether you crave days spent relaxing on a hammock or days filled with hiking, golf, and sightseeing, you will not be disappointed.
The Casentino Valley is the new 'hot spot' in Tuscan vacations and this restored farm house is the perfect vantage point.

As Americans living in Florence in the 60s, my family discovered this little village laying in ruins and with the help of a few friends who bought up the other houses we have restored this ancient village. We are artists and conversationalists. Always relishing in good food and interesting company.
Erik purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1976
Why Erik chose Ortignano Raggiolo
This property is one of a kind. Very few villages or homes in the area offer such a vantage point. Most homes and villages in the area are lower in the valleys or nestled against a hill side with only one view. Our village has spectacular views in 360 degrees. From the Monastery at La Verna to the treeless peak of Pratomagno, the grandness of the Casentino Valley is on full display.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
The village is full of Art and Artists and we offer specialized accommodations for artists. For an additional fee, access to a printmaking studio can me arranged. As well, we can arrange for and provide almost any materials sought by artists, including classes. We also offer an in house chef who can shop for and cook meals as requested using local ingredients and showcasing the culinary landscape of this unique region. Please inquire about the special services we can provide for you or your group.

The cosiest cottage
We largely chose this property because of the comfy-looking sitting room and open fire. If possible this was better than the photos, as was the whole house. It was truly a home away from home. The owner’s sister, Rebecca lives nearby and she was warm and welcoming, helping us out with good DVDs, yummy tasters of her great food and a bottle of wine and fruit. The kitchen is very well stocked, nothing like our last experience when there wasn’t even salt and pepper. It snowed and we huddled in the lounge playing games, watching movies and drinking wine. It was a great few days away! Would return in a second!
It was wonderful to have your beautiful family. We are very happy you had a good time. Warm regards, Rebecca & Erik
Amazing experience in the Italian countryside!
My husband and I stayed here for a week last summer and had a wonderful time. Waking up with a light fog rolling over the hills was stunning. The house is cozy with a beautiful kitchen and fireplace. Surrounding the house are gorgeous trees and flowers, idyllic picnic spots abound. The nearby towns of Poppi and Bibbiena are great for a day trip with historical castles, shopping and delicious local restaurants. But it's also fun just to cook, hike or relax and take in that glorious view. This was a definite highlight of our Europe trip!
Heaven on Earth
This house, in the middle of this village... is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city or even town living that the average person is used to. Wake up, open a window: it's a picturesque view of postcard worthy landscape, and that's just from the bathroom (also, literally every other room). The architecture is gorgeous old style hand workmanship that's hardly seen these days. Every room, from the small gathering spaces, to the fully equipped kitchens, to the cozy bedrooms, and exquisite balconies, is built to be lived in. There's unending opportunities for a once-in-a-lifetime picnic. Hunt for mushrooms and wild strawberries! The hosts provided every comfort: soft sheets, plenty of towels, we really couldn't have asked for more.
A quick 15-20 minute drive to the convenience of a small town in Bibbiena, is all it takes to get what you may need. Pop over to Poppi for the day, and see an amazing castle, and get a taste of historic Italy, without the tourism. Stop into a local shop, have a beer, and buy some supplies.
Florence is a slightly longer (1 hour-ish) car ride or train ride away, and you can have the full on Italy tourist immersion you might be looking for.
I'd definitely choose this boarding option again and again over staying at a chain hotel in a larger city. If you want to get away, get away to Ortignano Raggiolo!
