The Home has 12 foot Ceilings built with timbers from the famous Bay Cypress in the late 1800's.

This Wonderful House was the Original Home of the George Family from the turn of the Century (Circa 1900 - 2010). Straight from Greece to Ellis Island to Apalachicola, the George Family made their mark in this Amazing Fishing Community. The George's were such a devoted Greek Family that when it came time to add on to this wonderful home in the early 1900's... Mr. George actually incoorporated their homeland Greek Flag into the ceiling of what we now call the Family Room. We found this during the renovations when we moved two walls. We have painted it out in the original Greek Blue and Whites as a tribute.

Please Come and Enjoy a taste of the past as you make History and memories for the future with YOUR family and friends at the Beautiful BLUE MOON OF APALACHICOLA.

About Susan & David Morgan

I am originally from Valdosta, Ga. and David, my husband is from Virginia.

David was on an Historic Florida three day trip when we accidently met in Apalachicola. I had driven from Atlanta and was picking up the keys to what I 'thought' would be my New Home... This Incredible House in Apalach.

After signing the Contract, my closing was not scheduled to take place for months... March of 2010. I suppose timing IS everything. I had to be patient, so as soon as everything was finalized I planned a long weekend trip to pick up Keys and begin planning my restoration.

Our meeting was NO accident! It was a Once in a Blue Moon times two encounter!

Susan & David Morgan purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Susan & David Morgan chose Apalachicola

The Contract for this new home was finalized and signed between the George Estate and myself on the night of a 'Blue Moon' in December of 2009.

You see, my son, Alex had recently graduated from Law School at UGA and I had been living in Atlanta for almost nine years.

I decided to leave the fast pace life of Buckhead, and was naturally drawn back to return to the vacation lands of my childhood. My parents had been bringing their six children to the beaches of St. George Island and the Five and Dime Store of Apalach since 1968.

As I crested the Bridge of Apalach at sunset, I could see the leaky rooftop of this home full of history, but a home which had laid empty for many years.

You see, the George Family gave birth to nine first generation children here after a young couple made their way from Greece to Ellis Island to Apalachicola Circa 1895 to 1900.

Now in 2010 as the new owner, I decided to stop by the Gibson to join the locals for the traditional Friday gathering. How was I to know a 'tourist' would be there to sweep this Newest Apalach Homeowner off her feet?

Our lives changed and WE are now living on the Elizabeth River in the Tide Water area of Virginia!

What makes this cottage unique

David and I are so excited to share this magical place with you. Please know as you enjoy your stay at the Blue Moon of Apalachicola that our hearts are there as well.

We want you to share YOUR Stories and Memories, too. We will work with you as best we can to make your stay a Special Memory of a Lifetime.

Remember, Once 'in' the Blue Moon, You'll want to come back Sooner!

Susan & David Morgan

Awesome home, location and trip!

  • 5 of 5

The place is exactly as described, charming, comfortable, well appointed, and an excellent location. Other than a couple of day trips over to St. George to go to the beach, our car never moved. So many options of places to walk to, breakfast on the water, happy hour downtown, dinner at a different restaurant each night, usually at the suggestion of one of the friendly locals you'll end up talking to. We never went to the same place twice, and never had a bad meal!

Susan was amazing, available as needed for recommendations and advice, and an great resource while we were there.

Don't overthink it, this place/owner does it all!

Great rental easy walk to town.

  • 4 of 5

House has been nicely decorated , we found everything we needed. Biggest problem is no parking at the property it,s on a one way street and you have to park where you can opposite the house. Easy walk to the shops and restaurants, all in all a great rental, there were 8 of us we all fitted in very easily great weekend...

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed you family reunion getaway at the Blue Moon Cottage! Please let us know when you are expecting more than three vehicles and need additional parking. Because we are located on a corner and caddie-corner to the city parking lot, we do have 'Blue Moon' designated parking cones to reserve additional spots. We can also use these to save a larger space for boats, boat trailers, or campers. We look forward to having you back very soon! Thank you so much!

Not what we expected: poor lighting in kitchen, no parking, poor view, wiring problems.

  • 2 of 5

The property is attractive in the photo, beds/linens are comfortable and you do allow pet dogs.

However, the neighborhood is not what we expected and view is poor; Bath tubs need grab bars and a hand held shower; a nice place would not use Piggely Wiggely grocery bags too line waste baskets; The place surely does not meet codes with all the wiring done with extension cords. Kitchen lighting terrible; glad to have dishwasher but difficult getting it to close for operation (we contacted you); stairs desperately need a hand rail on right side (I went up once just to look - we did not use). We needed the kitchen but not rest of house and the charges were too high for what we used. I can not imagine 2 families using the cottage at same time with only the French door separation . Thought kitchen floor was a painted floor at first glance, however the old lineoleum needs replacing. It is torn and impossible to keep clean. A painted floor would be nice for the effect you are offering.

Would be nice if you could install a paper towel rack and have at least a roll on when guests come. Guests need to know what to expect. The rented golf cart and owner were a great help. We enjoyed the downtown and especially "The Owl" restaurant and The Consulate area. Our friends had stayed at the Consulate but the stairs were impossible for us. Interesting history there and delicious food. We found the Maritime Museum interesting and the two houses on tour, although we never found them open when we had time to tour.

Owner's Response: This wonderful Home has brought enjoyment and great memories to literally thousands of guests since its revitalization in 2012. Even after completely rewiring, new plumbing, (all to code) and remodeling, we were able to save some distinct original character by preserving the multi layered hand painted 'cloth' floorcovering in the kitchen and upstairs bedroom. They were installed about 1918 and used by the George Family who raised nine children here since circa 1900. We hope you enjoy the historic charm these elements add to this rambling home. Also, as a convenience for our modern day guests, we added surge protector power strips as charging stations needed for many electronics used by our travelers. Having elderly parents who have often enjoyed visiting here, one of the first things we installed for safety were grab bars around each of the antique clawfoot tubs. We apologize that this traveler did not see them strategically located as to required specifications. We are always on call at anytime for our guests during your stay should you have questions or need additional supplies. We are pleased and humbled to have received so many five star reviews over the past 5 1/2 years and consistently returning guests. Thank you so much.
