About Kenny Barr

We moved to Eugene separately, in 1975-1976. Both of us thought if we liked the area then we would stay, and if not we'd leave. We've never left. We love the Pacific Northwest, and especially Oregon. Loving Eugene says a lot about us personally. We enjoy meeting new friends, and know the area very well in case you're looking for some recommendations.

Please tell us a little about your planned visit. It helps us when we know who we're speaking with. Thanks.

Why Kenny Barr chose Eugene

This is where we live year round. Our home is in the back of the property, in an apartment that's mostly over the garage (separate everything.) The location is ideal. Walking distance to groceries and restaurants; walking and bike trails along the Willamette river; the UO campus including Hayward Field and Matthew Knight Arena; buses that leave to the doorstep of Autzen Stadium a few blocks from the home; a short jog to both the Amazon Running Trail, and also the Prefontaine Trail. And there's an easy drive to the Oregon Coast, Cascade Mountains, Crater Lake, rivers and lakes, rafting and fishing, mountain biking, golfing and winter sports. An outdoor paradise.

Eugene also has a symphony, ballet, opera, galleries, the Bach Festival, and numerous cultural events. The Cuthbert Amphitheater in summer months is an unbeatable venue for concerts of all types.

What makes this house unique

One of 'Eugene's finest neighborhoods'. Quiet and tree lined, every home is different. The Location couldn't be better. In addition you get Jeanne and Kenny as your very gracious hosts.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent experience. Kenny stopped by to greet us after we arrived and to make sure we had everything we needed. The deck was beautiful - comfortable and surrounded by plants and flowers. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well laid out, and everything was just great! My husband and I were there for the NCAA Track and Field Championships, along with my parents who are in their 80s, and one of my sisters. It was very easy to drive to the stadium, walk to the grocery store, and the neighborhood is beautiful. We all had an excellent time.

Great location for visiting Eugene

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this lovely house in March 2017 during spring break to visit our daughter who is at University of Oregon. Very convenient location, close to the university campus and all the amenities that Eugene has to offer. The owners of the property gave us a warm welcome and were friendly and responsive to us whenever we had a question, or needed something, throughout our entire visit. We'd certainly select this property again for trips to Eugene.

Nice but very cold

  • 2 of 5

This is a lovely home in the College Hill area of Eugene. Large and pretty well equipped. Would have been a five star except for some glitches. The thermostat is kept under lock and key. I knew this from another review and told Kenny in Sept that I am in my 80's coming from southern Nevada and would need at least a temp of 72. He assured me that he would take care of it. He chose to set the temp at 69 during the cold snap over Christmas. I requested several times to have the heat turned up because I was actually shivering. He argued with me saying that I needed to wear warmer clothes and told me that there were extra blankets. He said I couldn't be cold because my hands were warm and besides he saw my 11 year old granddaughter in short sleeves. He refused to give us more heat for the nine days we stayed there. Not good. I purchased a small space heater that he said made his wife cold on their side of the house. We only used it for about an hour a day to take the chill off our feet. No where near the thermostat. Too bad that what would have been a perfect Christmas turned out to be a battle for heat!

The water pressure is very low and the lighting is underwhelming. Very dim light in all except the bathroom which was well lit. Hard to prepare evening meals. Natural light in the morning was very nice in the kitchen. Kenny requested that we not use the fireplace and doesn't provide wood. For the price we really would expect to be comfortable. That was not the case. Such a lovely space could have been a wonderful memory. Not to be.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate that your review is published without being truthful. Please read 5 years of 5 star reviews. The thermostat is locked because we cannot possibly demand that the heating system respond to constant reprogramming by our guests, especially in 20 degree weather. Kenny never argued with you, and I was never cold. Every one in your houseful of company during your stay replied that they were comfortable and came to the door in short sleeves when on three occasions we inquired about your comfort. Having a fire in the fireplace during very cold weather is never advised because the heat going right up the chimney as the fire cools, will in fact make the home a lot colder. You readily agreed. That being said, we never prohibited your fire building. We no longer supply firewood because some guests in the past have burned half a cord of wood in a single stay. Two blocks away is a Safeway selling firewood in small lots and guests have been more than happy to purchase only what they need. We cannot control the water pressure, that is College Hill. The shower is, however, quite nice. Perhaps you did not realize the kitchen lights are on dimmable switches, and that there is additional lighting under the cabinets? Lighting has never before been a complaint. In fact, we have never had a complaint. Again please see the reviews. We are sorry you were unhappy, but by the sounds of your several gatherings held at the house, your guests had a wonderful time.
