The owners Maria and Thilo are both retired geologists, traveling a lot. They were looking for a safe harbor in an area not overcrowded by tourists, and found it here in Speightstown. This condominium is self-managed, not rented out via an agency.
Thilo purchased this Condo in 2008
Why Thilo chose Speightstown
We stayed many years in Barbados and preferred always the west coast as compared to the much more crowded south, where the ocean waves are often high. Our property is facing the beach of the so called 'platinum coast'; the area has a fair amount of tourism but is not at all overcrowded. Expensive touristic properties like Port St. Charles, Port Ferdinand or Nikki`s beach club are, however, in walking distance.
What makes this Condo unique
The apartment is in easy walking distance to shops, bars, the bus station, etc., and the beach is in front, so many of our guests do not rent a car. For many other apartments in Barbados a rental car is essential for shopping and getting around. The apartment is quite large and well equipped with modern and some antique mahogany furniture. The kitchen is very well stocked with different electric equipment and everything else you might need. An ideal place to unwind in real Caribbean atmosphere, a romantic getaway for couples, but also well suited for a family holiday.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
This is a great place to stay. Secure parking, close to restaurants, grocery, bars. Had the beach all to ourselves. A problem with kitchen lights was fixed within 1 hour of reporting it to manager. Would stay here again.
We highly appreciate that our guests enjoyed their stay. Always welcome to come back another time!
Well equipped and a great base to explore Barbados
10 metres from the beach and you’ll have it pretty much to yourself. The apartment is well equipped and comfortable. Dealing with Thilo was a pleasure and there were no complaints at all. I would return in a heartbeat and am missing it already.
The listing was as advertised. The apt we rented was clean and well stocked with kitchen, bathroom, and beach items. We loved the layout and the spaciousness. I would definitely recommend this property. We enjoyed relaxing on the beach across the street and snorkeling over the reefs. We bought our groceries at Jordan's and Eddie's and ate at home mostly. We thought the menu prices at Hugo's across the street was expensive, and Nikki's north of us at the Marina was outrageous. The odd time we ate out was at a local street vendor or bakery. Speightstown is a quiet area, so if you want a relaxing holiday of reading, sunbathing, walking, and swimming this is the spot.
We thank Garry for the review and especially calling the apartment a "Speightstown oasis". Unfortunately, restaurants in Barbados are often expensive. Hugo's restaurant just opposite a part of the Whitesands building has a very nice atmosphere, but it is an up-level restaurant and the prices are accordingly. Some of our guests went there just to have a drink at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere. There are different other restaurants in Speightstown in easy walking distance from the Coral Sands apartment. In the detailed info file sent to our guests we give recommendations (e.g. Orange grocer, Jumas, Island plates). Nikkis beach bar near Port Ferdinand is in quite some distance to the apartment and it is really very expensive; there are different beach bars in Speightstown itself, just a few minutes by foot, for instance "One Eleven East" and "Stanley`s sports bar and restaurant".
Our kitchen is well stocked, so most guests (and we ourselves) eat mainly at home. The bus station of Speightstown is just 3 minutes away, very touristic spots like Holetown but many other places as well can be reached easily and cheaply.
Lovely place, lovely location, helpful host five star
Lovely location and lovely apartment. Very helpful host.
We thank Katie very much for the review. She and her family are always welcome to come back again.
Really cute beachfront condo.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in this cute 2 bedroom condo. It was efficiently equiped in the kitchen, and the service was excellent. Their references for taxi drivers and activities were very helpful. We had a wonderful time. The Cool Runnings catamaran excursion was outstanding. Brace yourself for the food prices, VERY EXPENSIVE, but they have pretty much everything you'll need, at the local grocery store. 2L of ice cream was $25 US or $50 Barbados. Oh well, it was all worth it. We're planning to return every year. We recommend with a 5-Star rating.
We thank our guests from Utah for their excellent review and of course they are very welcome to return. We unfortunately have to agree that all prices in Barbados are high; this includes also the running costs of an apartment. But our kitchen is very well equipped, so one can safe a bit if one is prepared to cook at home.
Well kept apartment in excellent position
We have just returned from a stay of nearly 5 weeks at Coral Sands and we have already booked again for next year! It is an excellent apartment, with an extremely well equipped kitchen, spacious, clean, comfortable beds and within a 5 minute walking distance to the fish market, bakery, supermarkets, bank, post office and bus station in Speightstown. The location is fantastic – literally across the road from a very quiet sandy beach. There are several beach chairs and beds to use on the beach and plenty of towels.
Whilst there is some noise from the restaurant opposite, it was not excessive and we witnessed several improvements whilst we were there, including sound mufflers for the air conditioning units, valet parking and signage to take cars away from the front of the building. Overall it seems they are trying to be good neighbours. The restaurant door staff were very friendly and in many ways their presence in the dark evenings adds a positive security angle. They close at 10pm and generally everyone has left by 10.30pm. We have stayed in other accommodation in Barbados where the tree frogs, dogs and cockerels have kept us awake all night, but we enjoyed a good night’s sleep every night in Coral Sands.
Overall we felt that the location of this apartment so close to facilities, access to the beach, spacious accommodation and value for money far outweighed any minor inconvenience from noise issues. We are very much looking forward to our stay again next year.
We thank Chris for the excellent review, and of course for re-booking already for next year. We are in the fortunate situation, that about one third of our guests come back to our two apartments in White Sands again, some of them for the third and fourth time.
The Coral Sands beachfront apartment is situated on the exclusive West Coast of Barbados, overlooking a white, sandy beach, where you can swim, snorkel or dive. The condo is situated in just a few minutes walk to the historical centre of Speightstown ('Little Bristol'), a small town protected for its cultural and historical value. You find banks, shops, supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, bars and more. During the week you observe the pulsating life of a small busy Caribbean town, characterized by colorfully dressed, friendly ladies selling local fresh fruit and vegetables. Concerts and festivals are often organized, especially at Speightstown Esplanade, which is just 5 minutes walk away.
The location is ideal for water sports. We provide for our guests a large beach umbrella, foldable beach loungers, beach chairs, beach towels and snorkeling equipment. The Reefers and Wreckers Dive Shop in Speightstown is just five minutes walk away, highly praised for their diving tours. Paddle-boards and kayaks can be hired at the "1.11 East" Bar in the centre of Speightstown; here you can also stay on sunbeds at the beach or to enjoy a sun-downer. Next to it is Jumas beach front restaurant and bar, where beach chairs and sunbeds are also provided.
In just 5 minutes walking distance to the north along the coast you reach the km-long Heywoods beach (with many trees providing shadow), stretching to the famous beach in front of Port St. Charles, near the yacht harbor.
Please remember: All beaches are open to the public and access is a right for everybody. Properties which front onto a beach own the land to the high-water mark only. So you can stroll and relax along the beaches even in front of very expensive hotels.
The beautiful rugged East Coast, famous among surfers, with its breathtaking views, is only a few kilometers away. White Sands is close to the golf courses of Royal Westmoreland (10 minutes by car), Sandy Lane (20 minutes) and others. Pulsating touristic Holetown is only 15 min away, easily reached by bus. This gives you the best of two worlds: a quiet haven on the edge of where it is all happening.
After booking, you will get very detailed info on the surroundings, places to visit, recommended beaches and much more.
