Our stay at the mountain-style lodge in the Lakewoods Subdivision between Christmas and New Year's

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the mountain-style lodge in the Lakewoods Subdivision near Lake of the Woods was terrific. The weather and cross-country ski conditions during our four-day stay were excellent. We had mostly blue skies and there was an abundance of forest service roads and snow mobile trails on which to ski. We were amazed that the forest service actually grooms a number of the trails around that area for cross-country skiing.

The accommodations at the retreat were excellent. We especially liked the fact that we could drive (or ski) right into the garage since there was about three feet of snow around the house. The kitchen was large and well-appointed. It worked very well for our group of eight persons. The main gathering room and dining room were also great and it was very nice to have instant gas-fired fireplaces in both the great room and the downstairs bedroom. The owners had thought through virtually everything that our group would need during our stay and helped us choose the route that would enable us to get there in the easiest manner. Potential renters should be aware that there are virtually no services of any kind within 22 miles of this house during the winter season. There is a small store near the Lake of the Woods Resort that has some basic food supplies, but in the winter there is no gas within 22 miles so one needs to be aware of this before driving up to the lodge which is situated at 5,200 feet elevation.

Excellent Family Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed here earlier this year and we had so much fun playing in the amazing snow and enjoying such a beautiful and comfortable home. All of our needs were not only met but surpassed by the well-stocked kitchen and linen and special touches like Keurig coffee. The beds were really comfortable and there is a ton of room for families to spread out. There was so much snow, we had our own private snow park !!! Thank you so much for providing such a great place for families to spend time together!

Spacious, comfortable, relaxing...

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at the shack. The rooms and bathrooms were more than accommoding. We stayed a long weekend with 2 other couples, and couldn't have asked for a better set up. The deck out back was peaceful and the kitchen was well equipped (surplus of coffee). I would definitely recommend this house to others!!

Peaceful home in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This home is convenient if you're visiting Crater Lake. We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a road trip to Lassen and the Oregon coast, and this home was a good middle point. The house had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Our kids enjoyed the upstairs room and all the games and puzzles. The kitchen was lovely, the rooms were comfortable, the master bathroom has a nice tub, the views were wonderful, and the wifi worked well enough. I kept hoping to see deer outside but none visited during our short stay.

Lovely home in the middle of the forest...

  • 5 of 5

We are seven school friends who meet every other year for our "Wrinkle Convention." This has been a tradition for the past 23 years. The Shack is by far the best rental property we've had. Privately located in a forest setting, it is still close to Lake of the Woods and Klamath Falls. The house is nicely decorated, spacious, and comfortable. The bedrooms are large and private. We spent the majority of our time sitting around the gorgeous granite island in the roomy kitchen. The owner of The Shack thought of everything a renter would need. Not only was the kitchen well equipped, including a Kerrig with pods of coffee, hot chocolate, and tea, but the bathrooms had plenty of paper products, shampoo, and lotion. We had plenty of fresh towels, pillows and blankets. The Shack's owner was readily available by phone before, during, and after our stay. Our visit was trouble free, and we felt very much at home. Without hesitation we would rent this property again. In fact, we plan our next "Wrinkle" at The Shack! '
