Marsh Gayz is a private river front home on the Folly River with a deep water dock tucked away on Tabby Island, a secluded waterfront neighborhood of Folly Beach, South Carolina. Surrounded by age old live oaks, saltmarsh meadows and the wide waters of the Folly River, this beautiful home features spectacular private views of the Low Country at its finest. Although sequestered away from the main beach drag, it’s still only a short stroll to the beach and the famed surfer’s paradise known as the “Washout.” The quaint commercial district of Center Street and Folly Landing, with its many restaurants, shops, night clubs and parks, is also just a short bicycle, drive or boat ride away. You can easily launch your boat at the landing and dock in your own backyard during your stay 24/7. Historic downtown Charleston, SC is a scenic 15-20 minute hop over the island connector that characterize this part of the East Coast.

Unlike many coastal homes, only four steps up takes you to the haven within. This single story dwelling sleeps (10) people with three bedrooms and 3 full baths (one with a deep Jacuzzi tub) and two sleeper sofas in the great room. The roomy master suite has a sweeping view of the river via glass sliders that open onto the wide back deck. A spacious great room with beautiful Morris Island brick gas fireplace, gaming table and separate walk-in bar embraces even more stunning views of the river. The large well-equipped kitchen comes complete with an island, dishwasher, microwave, multiple tools for the culinary inclined and a large dining table for seating 8 or more. A small study/shell room with a full size sofa can be found off the main entryway, and there is also full laundry facility and a garage fully stocked with all the beach or fishing gear you need. This home contains all the amenities including wireless high speed Internet, Cable TV, 52” flat screen TV, DVD player, sound dock for I Pods, ceiling fans, and central heating and air conditioning (new system 2016).

Although the house is a sanctuary in itself, it’s really all about the great outdoors. A spacious sundeck spans the entire back of the house and leads you across the lawn to a short railed dock ending at the river. The dock facility has both floating and stationary platforms, and is complete with a shaded area and bench seats, fish cleaning station with sink, water and power. There is also a paved patio area in the back yard that is perfect for oyster roasts, shrimp or crab boils and other seafood affairs with a stainless table, sink with running water and portable cooker and pots, shell barrels and a customized fire pit made special for Marsh Gayz for adding a little late night ambiance or roasting marshmallows.

Marsh Gayz is an ideal getaway for families or friends who have an interest in all of the watersports delights that the river world offers, while fish, crabs, clams and oysters can be caught or found right out the back door! With amazing sunsets to the west, the statuesque Morris Island Lighthouse to the east and miles of river and marsh in between, one could not want more for a perfect summertime setting. Marsha Pardee, M.Sc. is a marine ecologist who works as an independent consultant specializing in environmental management, eco-tourism and many other conservation related projects and programs. Although raised on Folly, she lives in the Turks and Caicos Islands and works throughout the Caribbean region, but enjoys coming back 'home' for the holidays and especially for shrimp season in the Fall.

I was raised on Folly Beach, moving into this house as a young child. I have a love for all things in the water so being raised on the water only grew my passion for my profession.

What makes this house unique

Located on the East end of Folly, you can see historical Morris Island Lighthouse from the dock in the distance but it is a short ride to go see it and park then walk 1/4 mile to the beach. (Great family photo op). While you can enjoy kayaking on the water from the comforts of the house in one of the 3 kayaks provided, it's also just a short stroll to the beach crossing the street at East Ashley where you turned in to get to the house. The beach access is right there. You may also choose to bicycle to Center Street, on one of the bicycles provided. Folly has a great fishing pier Edwin S. Taylor managed by the County Park System. There is dining and a ship store too. This property is managed by Property Manager extraordinaire, Natalie Staropoli. We offer so much more than most rentals on Folly, the reviews speak for themselves as many guest find it there or home away from home regardless how short or long their stay. The views are extremely private whether you were sitting in the great room or sitting on the deck at our roundtable with cushions provided for maximum comfort. The lower level Patio is more like an outdoor kitchen with a sink and a grill, a gas cooker with several stock pots provided, a fire pit and dining tables for al fresco dining. It's truly a hidden treasure on Folly Beach. It's Reasonable to say you will most likely catch blue crabs and or stone crabs off the dock in one of the crab pots provided as well as catch fresh fish of all sorts using one of the fishing rods provided, bringing your own fishing gear is recommended. Beach chairs. beach towels and all gear to get to the beach is easily accessible in the garage.

  • In addition to 3 bedrooms that sleep a couple in each room, the Great Room has 2 sleeper sofa's that's great for keeping kids together. In the front of the house we have a room termed "the shell room" that has folding doors; a full size sofa is in there but not a sleeper sofa and no blinds.

Lovely and Relaxing home on the water

Me and 5 of my family members stayed here to celebrate my Dad's cancer survival. This home was PERFECT for a relaxing vacation in the off season. The home is right on the marsh so we were able to go crabbing, kayaking, and enjoy just sitting on the water. The home is only 2 miles from the "downtown" area of Folly, so it's super close to bars and restaurants. There is a beach access point right across the way, so that's a plus as well.

The home was lovely and comfortable. Nice size kitchen for cooking and the owner was super helpful on suggestions.

Would EASILY rent from this property again.

Wonderful Vacation!

We had such a nice time at the Marsh Gayz property. The view was incredible. My wife and I sat on the dock most every day fishing, catching crabs and watching the dolphins.. The sunsets were amazing. The property was just a short walk from the beach. Our lab Buddy probably had the best time of all watching the water, investigating crabs and playing at the beach in the evening. He's been moping ever since we got home!

Amazing view, close to the beach, perfect summer escape

This property is the very essence of Relaxation. Quaint, tucked away- but not too tucked away- beautiful scenery that changes everyday. Could walk, bike or golf cart to the beach(access was so convenient), then after your time on the beach you can look forward to the lovely view of the marsh and whether or not to kayak, fish, jump off the dock, crab or just sit and watch the dolphins. Best getaway of the year for us. We highly recommend! We have a 7 and 11 year old and were worried they would miss having a pool nearby but no one even asked! There is so much else to do! Downtown Folly is a golf cart ride away and there seems to always be something fun going on there. This property offers the best of both worlds. You have the bustle of a fun little beach town minutes away (not to mention the beach!!!) and then you have the peace and serenity of the marsh that you get to come home to! We will be booking again for next summer!!

Amazing Property!

Marsh Gayz is an absolutely amazing spot to celebrate life. The attention to details from the owner, and wealth of communication from Natalie, the property manager, truly set this home apart from others. The pictures don't do this home true justice. The views of the Folly River, marshlands, and wildlife are mesmerizing. Watching the tide flow in and out daily is such a calm release from our normal hectic day-to-day lives. Great swimming, fishing, and crabbing straight from the dock. Easy access to "downtown" Folly Beach with many eclectic eateries. Don't forget Bert's, a super cool local grocery. Easy beach access just around the corner makes this home the place to be. Highly recommended and we'll be back for sure. ~ JC, Columbia, SC

It's a perfect spot for any season because of the marsh views and Folly River whether you are sitting in the great room warming to a fire or sitting on the patio roasting marshmallows in the custom fire pit. Great House, Even Better View!

We stayed here (10) of us for a two day weekend and loved it. The location and view is amazing. Right on the water and close to the restaurants and bars in Folly Beach. There were lots of amenities, like fishing poles, crab traps (which we caught a bunch), Kayaks, and just plenty of room for all of us. Everyone of the guests said I knocked it out of the park with booking this house for our stay and we would certainly come back.

You're right though, our property has far more amenities than most rental homes: (bicycles, kayaks, life preservers, crab pot, fishing poles, tackle box, bocce ball, corn hole, tennis rackets, football, soccer ball, a new beach cart, beach chairs, umbrella, and coolers, gas grill, gas cooker, extra propane tank and fire pit) Not to mention all the household items for kitchen, bath & laundry. With it fully equipped, it's rare you won't find what you need in the house to help you get by including coffee, creamer, sugar as well as several spices and such for cooking.. We even have an herb garden for your use. Thank you for choosing us for your guys weekend.
