A Farm Stay in Washington State: Cozy Comfort in the Country

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Come Experience Life on a Small Working Farm and Enjoy Cozy Comfort at a Farm Stay in Beautiful Skagit County, Washington.

Our 30-acre farm is home to a herd of heritage Irish Dexter cattle (the smallest breed of cattle). A very social pot-bellied pig, chickens, miniature donkeys, Kinder goats, barn cats, and our collie keep life at the farm active and fun. Meet our animals, help with feeding and farm chores, collect eggs, brush the donkeys, or just relax in the peaceful country setting.

Our Farm House was built at the turn of the century and has been completely remodeled to offer comfort as well as all the modern conveniences you might desire. The 3-bedroom, 1-bath Farm House will comfortably sleep 6 guests--a master bedroom with a queen-size bed, a second guest bedroom with a double 4-poster bed, and a third guest bedroom with a daybed and trundle.

The newly-remodeled bathroom has a full-size tub with shower, pedestal sink, and toilet. Crisp white towels are provided for farm stay guests.

The kitchen is fully equipped so that you can prepare your own meals—there are two ovens, electric stove top, full-size refrigerator, microwave oven, dishwasher, numerous small electrical appliances (including a coffee maker, toaster, and blender), washer and dryer. Dishes, glassware, utensils, and cookware are all provided.

Our Farm Stay is located in Sedro-Woolley, in beautiful Skagit County, Washington, about half-way between Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia.

About The Owner

Retired from white-collar professional careers, Terry has returned to his roots in Skagit County and to farming. Jean is learning to be a farmer in the only way possible: by just doing it.

Our animals--the cows, sheep, and pig--are friendly and social and are used to being around people. Many can be hand-fed treats and enjoy scratches.

We welcome visitors who are interested in learning about farm life. We delight in introducing children to farm animals and the wide-open space of our country setting.

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose Sedro-Woolley

The farm is nestled in a lovely valley with hills on both sides. The setting is peaceful and serene. And yet, it is only about 20 minutes from I-5, the major north-south freeway in Washington State.

The farm is located in a rich farming county where Farmer's Markets and farm stands abound. U-pick opportunities are plentiful in the Summer and Fall.

Numerous recreational activities are near by: Boating, fishing, and rafting on the Skagit River; golfing; hiking; mountain and road biking; horseback riding; skiing and snowboarding (at Mount Baker, 1.5 hours away); skateboarding.

What makes this house unique

Wake up slowly and wander out to watch the farm animals go through their morning routines. Help with morning or evening feedings (if you choose to do so). Learn that watching cows eat is an amazingly soothing experience.

Wander through the field or down the road, catching glimpses of small farm life at every farm.

Appreciate a slower pace of life, the smell of freshly-mown grass, and a dazzling display of stars on clear nights.

Local and regional major activities abound:

Woodfest in Sedro-Woolley (March)

Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon (April)

Loggerodeo in Sedro-Woolley (July)

Festival of Family Farms (throughout the county in October)

Magical weekend on the farm - We can't wait to go back!

  • 5 of 5

My family went to Hoehn Bend Farm to celebrate my 2 year old daughter's birthday. It was absolutely amazing! The setting is gorgeous and incredibly peaceful. Farmer Terry welcomed us on arrival and immediately set to work charming both my 2 and 5 year old girls. We were able to participate as fully as we wished in caring for the animals, and we all just loved it. We were lucky enough to be there during the spring and were able to watch a calf being born just feet away from us, hold 3 day old chicks (and big chickens too!), and steal peeks at a weeks-old barn owl in the rafters. Both Terry and Jean were so kind to my girls and made a point to make everything so interesting for all of us. On our way out, they took us on a jeep tour of the Terry's neighboring family farm, which was a totally different but equally gorgeous setting. Terry and Jean made everything such an adventure for my girls. They laughed their heads off going through the tree tunnels, snatching berries and cherries from the bushes and trees as we bounced past, and catching glimpses of the animals along the way. The farm house is so comfortable, and Jean has taken a great deal of care in stocking it with everything a family could possibly need, including toys/movies/books for the kids. I have nothing but praise for Hoehn Bend Farm, and, weeks later, my girls still ask every day about when we can go back!

Fabulous Weekend as Farmers -- Terry & Jean are the best!

  • 5 of 5

I very rarely leave reviews of this kind but I can't stop saying enough good things about our stay at Farm Stay Skagit at Hoehn Bend Farm this last weekend.

This VRBO is actually on a full 30-acre working farm. You rent the house that is on the farm itself and get to participate as much or as little as you wish with the day-to-day chores.

We were very involved in all of the chores and had a blast feeding the critters, checking on the momma cows, and even driving around the many farm vehicles. The kids went CRAZY spending time around so many animals and feeling so involved in the farming process.

The highlight was getting to know the owners Terry and Jean. While they don't live on the property they are very present and invite you to join them into their farming lives as temporary family. They both have fabulously interesting stories about their lives (they weren't always farmers) and about the process of becoming farmers, and what farm life is really all about.

Highly, highly recommend it to anyone who is even a little bit interested in learning about farming and especially to those with kiddos who are up for an adventure!

Make memories -- and friends! -- at Hoehn Bend Farm

  • 5 of 5

Hoehn Bend Farm is the perfect home away from home: cooking, reading, playing, all seem more exotic when done elsewhere! The farmhouse had every detail covered from electrical outlet covers for finger-poking babies, to fresh eggs and jam in the fridge, to sunny flowers on the dining table. It was a joy to relax indoors after a morning of watching my toddler gleefully adventure with the child-sized wheelbarrow. He gathered eggs, fed animals, and held (chased) chickens. My favorite moment in the farmhouse was watching the chickens wander free-range through the window.

Terry and Jean were the best hosts: friendly, engaging, and so generous about sharing their time and wisdom. We enjoyed interesting conversation during our hayride (and several clusters of arbor grapes!) and, nearly a month later, my kiddo still wakes up in the morning to ask about Fahmah Tay-wee, Buffy the Chicken, Polly the Chicken, and Ivy the Mama Goat.

We are certain we will return again and believe a future farmboy may be developing with the kiddo's newfound interest in animals, tractors, and farmers!

Great stay with Knowledgeable and Caring Hosts

  • 5 of 5

The house was very clean, cozy and well-maintained, and the owners provided thoughtful amenities like fresh eggs and bottled water. The highlight though was spending time with the owners. They were so knowledgeable and patient in explaining all kinds of interesting farm information to us and our 7 year old. We had a great time feeding the animals, picking blueberries, and checking for eggs. We're still talking about our stay..!

This place is a spectacular place to stay. The house is comfy, cute, and equipped with all the things from home. The owner provided us with a fresh dozen of eggs from the chickens and other great amenities. Our son celebrated his birthday at the farm, and he enjoyed all the animals. Terry gave us an impromptu hayride and mesmerized us and our friends kids. We can't wait to come back for another visit and see the animals and go hiking nearby.

An unbelievable experience for our family

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Hoehn Bend Farm is one we will never forget. Not only was the house clean, organized (I love labeled shelves!) and comfortable but every detail had been thought of- a pack n play set out for our baby, a dozen farm fresh eggs in the fridge, an alphabetized binder with information about the house/area, supplies in the cupboards for making cookies, lots and lots of board games, etc. And the experience of being on the farm was amazing! We took the jeep out to the pasture to see the ONE day old baby calf, helped spread hay for the cows when they came into the barn, fed the miniature donkeys, played in a huge hay fort, got eggs from the chickens, took the chickens outside on a cart, went on a hay ride to pick pumpkins from their pumpkin patch, etc. I cannot recommend this experience enough for families! It was an opportunity of a lifetime. Terry and Jean are so wonderful with kids. They encouraged each one of our kids when they tried something new and were great teachers! We will be back for sure and we can't wait to see what our new experience will be like. Every visit is different!
