4 bed villa In a peaceful, secluded yet not isolated location near Almancil.
About Robert Wilson
I was born and went to school in Edinburgh, moving South in 1966 to Hampshire where we still live. Most of my life was spent in agriculture buying grain from farmers in the South of England for millers, brewers, etc., or for export from Southampton or Portsmouth. Apart from grain trading sport has played a huge part in my life. Cricket was my main love however I enjoyed many other sports. In the 1960s I fenced for Scotland and also played rugger, squash, table tennis, bowls and lots of golf which is the only sport left that my aching joints can manage. My wife and I enjoy the theatre and we are lucky to have the Mayflower theatre in Southampton near us where we go regularly to the opera or ballet. In addition we are members of the National Trust and make great use of this to visit wonderful old buildings wherever we are in England. We are fortunate to live in Winchester which is a lovely historic city and surrounded by wonderful countryside.
Robert Wilson purchased this Villa in 2003
Why Robert Wilson chose Almancil
After years of holidaying in the Algarve my wife and I bought Casa da Oliveira in 2003. We just love the Algarve and the Portuguese people, so as I had retired by then buying in the area seemed a natural thing to do. We love spending time here and have absolutely no regrets about buying it. Renting it out helps cover the running costs which are quite substantial. We look forward to many more years of enjoying Casa da Oliveira and allowing our guests from all over to do the same!
What makes this Villa unique
In 2003 we looked at numerous properties in the area but it was the location and the comfortable feel of the property that sold it to us. We are very close to Almancil which being a very Portuguese town rather than a tourist trap thrives all the year round. Almancil has everything we could need. Despite being so close to this bustling town we are at the end of the Sao Lourenco village lane so no passing traffic. Also being just a few kms inland we avoid any aircraft noise from Faro airport and the motorway is just 1 km away but on the other side of a hill, so no noise from that either. That's why we say tha Casa da Oliveira is in a peaceful, secluded but not isolated location!

Great villa. Near airport.
Great villa. Great amenities. Thank you.
Many thanks for the review. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay and you will always be welcome as a guest in the future.
A nice enough villa, but if there is a problem it isn't open to discussion.
The villa is large, clean, quiet, and generally well maintained. It is a little dated, but a good place to stay in the Algarve (this is our 7th visit). It is a bit out of the way, and you definitely need a car.
The pool was a highlight - we all loved it, and paying to have it heated was worth the additional cost. The kitchen is well equipped, the television was enjoyed by our two children, and the Wifi was excellent. We had a couple of questions during our stay, and Sonja was always happy to help and quick to respond.
Our only real problem during our stay was the beds. I am aware this is a personal preference, but our entire family found them to be quite uncomfortable. The children had planned to sleep in the bunk beds, but these are alarmingly inadequate, bordering on dangerous (the safety rail for the top bunk is only fixed at the top, and actually swings open when touched)!
Unfortunately the villa was not inspected by the property manager between the previous guests leaving and our arrival. There was a genuine reason for this, and I certainly did not (at the time) have a problem with it, but in hindsight it cost us part of our security deposit.
On returning home we received an e-mail from Robert telling us he had withheld part of our deposit for damage to a table. The table in question was one we had not used during our stay, but I was not asked about the damage, or given any chance to discuss the issue - Robert made it clear that he felt he had been generous not keeping the entire amount.
What bothers me is the way in which it was handled. Surely the best way (for all concerned) would be an e-mail outlining the damage, and asking about the stain, which would give the best chance of removing it. The table could potentially be cleaned, I would get my deposit back, and everyone would benefit.
I was told that the cleaners had done an inspection after the previous guests left, and not seen the damage, so therefore it must have been caused by us. However I find this difficult to believe, as the cleaners had left paperwork from the previous guests in full view and not left a full welcome package or paperwork for our family. I feel that the cleaners are not responsible for damage control at the villa (although they do an excellent job cleaning).
So it’s a nice enough villa, but make sure you have a proper handover. If you are perceived to have caused damage you will not be offered any chance to discuss or remedy the situation.
We were three couples visiting for a friend's birthday. Casa da Oliveira couldn't have suited us better. Loads of space and a bathroom each! The owners of this lovely villa have thought of everything, it really is a home from home. Thank you.
A home from home absolutely fantastic
Just returned from a fabulous week in this lovely villa it’s a great base for relaxing or traveling either side of the algarve coast and with the new shopping centre at Loule only a 10 minute drive away and so easy to get to
Spent some evenings sat in the garden in the peace and quiet with only the church clock letting us know the time
Many thanks for a fantastic break
Wonderful Family Vacation
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the villa. It was particularly nice that it was outside of town and in a peaceful, quiet location. The villa is nicely furnished and has that nice feel of a place that is used by the owners regularly rather than just being an income property. Loved the wood-burning fire and the swimming pool was well-used by the kids (definitely worth the extra expense to have it heated). Lots of great places to eat in close-by Almancil. Good recommendations in the villa materials, although some places are closed over the Christmas/NY period or for the winter - worth checking opening online before heading out for an evening. We were very happy that we booked a car. Necessary if you want to take in the sites around the Algarve, and there is lots to see. Particularly enjoyed the Milreu Roman ruins. Also did a day trip to Sevilla - lovely city and only a couple of hours drive to get there. We will definitely be coming back to the Algarve and would recommend the villa as a great place to stay, particularly if you want to be well-removed from the hubbub of the touristy complexes in the area.
Thank you very much for this lovely review.
You are right, Casa da Oliveira is our second home which we visit regularly throughout the year often with friends or three generations of family! It is kitted out accordingly with masses of crockery, cutlery, glasses, etc., so that we never run out even when the dishwasher is full!
Our new powerful heat exchanger makes it easy to warm the pool water to 27/28C at any time of year, as indeed it will for us next week when we go there.
My wife and I are so glad that you had such a good time at the villa and you will always be welcome there again in the future.
Holiday in Almancil
If you want to have a lovely stay in the Algarve, just book this lovely villa in the Algarve. We spent 10 beautiful days overthere.
The villa has all you need and the kitchen is very well equiped. If you are Looking for a big cooking pan, just look upon the fridge. 😄
Robert is a very nice owner from whom you get a road discription with pictures, so you find the way to the villa easily.
The swimmingpool pool is warm and pleasant.
In short: the price quality ratio is excellent.
Enyou your stay!
Lively Almancil is less than 5 mins drive away. It has a wide range of shops - supermarkets, several banks, boutiques, 3 bakeries (with bread and pastries to die for!) & numerous cafes, bars & restaurants of all types & prices.

Nearby is the regional capital, Loule, with its lovely old buildings in cobbled streets. There is a large covered market which on Saturdays spills out onto the surrounding streets where the local farmers have their stalls selling their own fresh produce. In the main street are many boutiques & restaurants.

13kms to the East is Faro with a lovely ancient walled city centre which is well worth a visit. Faro has much more to offer as well with numerous small shops in the centre & shopping malls with all the top names.
Further East is ancient and unspoilt Tavira & a little further on is the beautiful & massive Guadiana river which forms the frontier with Spain. Cross the river by the new motorway bridge to visit Seville less than 2 hours from Almancil.
