About Bruce Trubo
We live in Avila Beach along the central coast of California. We fulfilled our dream of owning a piece of Hawaii by recently purchasing this Poipu Sands unit. We have visited the various islands of Hawaii many times since our honeymoon 33 years ago. We always seem to gravitate back to the 'garden Island' of Kauai and specifically sunny Poipu Beach. Within the small community of Poipu, we fell in love with the tranquility, proximity, and amenities of the Poipu Sands development. Combined with fresh papaya and Kona coffee, we look forward to many more mornings watching the tropical sunrise from off our lanai or down at the adjacent Grand Hyatt. After many visits to the Hawaiian islands, we found ourselves drawn back to the lush, tropical 'Garden Island' of Kauai. With it's rivers and waterfalls, breathtaking Napali coastline, pristine beaches, and undeveloped tropical greenery, Kauai defines paradise. The south side of the islands beckons the most days of sunshine which characterizes why we chose 'sunny Poipu'. Finally, the Poipu Sands Resort offers a peaceful, private, tranquility not found at many of the other larger developments. It's proximity to a beautiful beach, a short stroll past the Grand Hyatt to the bluffs beyond Shipwreck Beach, your private tennis court and heated pool, BBQ's to grill up some fresh fish, chicken, or steak, enormous greenbelt for sun and safe play.....the list goes on as to why we knew after many visits that Poipu Sands had it all!!
What makes this Condo unique
Just a short stroll down our frontage path will lead you to the Hyatt and the Mahaulepu Coastal Trail, which begins just beyond the beach. This trail is a special part of the Kauai History Heritage site and the last stretch of accessible coastline on the South Shore that has not been developed. This gorgeous coastal hike takes you across a variety of easy to moderate terrain with incredible ocean vistas, tidepools, sacred lava burial grounds, and even a sinkhole cave. The area provides a safe haven for marine life, such as sea turtles and the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. The trail leads to beautiful Mahaulepu Beach, a great place to spot whales in the winter or observe (from a distance) a monk seal napping on the beach. Next door to the Sands, you can wander around the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa`s lush tropical gardens or indulge in a reviving treatment at the world-class Anara Spa. This lovely setting lets you easily explore the natural wonders of our Garden Isle of Kauai, as well as dine at several delightful restaurants or enjoy their galleries and shops. Well located Po’Ipu condo
My husband and I rented this condo for 2 weeks over Easter and couldn’t have been more pleased. It is perfect for a couple and possibly 1 Child.
We have been going to Kauai since the eighties and stayed in many of the poipu and Princeville accommodations, this gets our 5 star rating! Because this property is privately owned it is very well equipped, especially the kitchen. The two BR’s have lovely hand soaps, shampoo, conditioner and moisturizer all locally made and smell lovely. The patio furnishings were very comfortable and were almost exclusively used by us rather than the living room. There are lots of BR towels and beach towels.
Patio is covered so you could eat out even when it was warm wet.
We have already rented for a month next year !
The only complaint we have is the wifi. It was fine the first week but were unable to connect at all during week two. I checked with various guests in other units and the were having no problems. Perhaps something that could be corrected?
In any case it is not detering where we stay next year.

lovely place but no view
have stayed at Poipu Sands many times and always had a view of the ocean from house and/or porch. Unfortunately new hotel blocks all water view .
Apparently you haven’t visited this lovely part of our Island in more than two decades. The “new” Hotel is the Point at Poipu built in 2004. In spite of the decreased oceanview, I thank you for your 4 star Review. With it’s expansive greenbelt and building layout, Poipu Sands still remains one of the most open and quiet Island Resorts.
This is our second time staying in this property. Place is very clean and has everything that we needed. Condo located in a great location, very close to Poipu beach.
lovely place and well situated
We thoroughly enjoyed our ten days at this lovely, well appointed condo. There were no maintenance issues at all; it was quiet (no roosters waking us up), knives were relatively sharp (which was a pleasant surprise for a rental), beds were great, furniture in good condition, lots of kitchen utensils, quality beach chairs, appliances in excellent condition. Heritage Trail by Hyatt was convenient and the Poipu Beach is an easy 20 minute walk. Would definitely recommend this condo and hope to return to this well managed and cared for property.
