The apartment was comfortable & very secure, while being a short walk to the Capitol Building.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks in the apartment and it was very comfortable. I had read other reviews, and the common complaint was poor wifi. We had some trouble with that as well. Five days into our stay the Wifi went out completely. We let Cliff and his staff know and 2 days later it was not only working, but it was then 5 times faster and never caused any other trouble. So, a huge improvement and it made our stay not only easier to keep up with email but more fun as we were able to use our own Netflix account.

That apartment is only a 3 block walk to the Safeway Grocery store and about the same to the Eastern Market, which I highly recommend for fresh veg and prime cuts of meat as well as fresh bakery goods. The apartment is close to the Capital and the National Mall. And after visiting, museums and memorials it was usually less than $10 to take an Uber car back to the apartment. (we used the daily bike share service to get to the mall. From the apartment, it is almost all downhill. )

FYI, when we arrived we used a taxi to get to the apartment and that was a mistake. We arrived during rush hour from Dulles Airport and so the fare was well over $100. On the way out of town, we used Uber and it was less than $50.

All in all my wife and I were comfortable, safe, and would love to have stayed longer.

Close to the Capitol clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This location was just right. The apartment was clean and comfortable. The Capitol is a 15 minute walk away. The metro is close by as well as a Safeway grocery store. We are very happy with our stay.

Not what I expected....at all.

  • 2 of 5

If you are expecting this property to look like the picture, please don't. The couch shown is not there and there is a futon in its place, as someone else pointed out in a previous review. The air conditioner did not work well at all when we got there, the owner had to come in and change a setting (it is an electric wall unit). That only fixed the unit in the bedroom (74 degrees was the lowest we could get it), it did not fix the one in the living room. If that was 78 degrees in there, I would have been surprised, as it was warm and humid. The property was only half cleaned when we got there, the bathroom needed to be re-cleaned, the kitchen sink was not very clean, and there were dirty washcloths in the hamper they have in the closet. The tv didn't work at all in the living room and there was not one at all in the bedroom. The kitchen itself was very nice, probably the nicest part of the unit. The bed was extremely comfortable, and had the room been cool, I probably would have slept wonderfully. The location is great, within walking distance of the Eastern Market metro. If the owner would fix the a/c, get a good cleaning done to the shower, the baseboards, and the washing machine that smelled of mildew, it probably would be a very nice unit.

Great affordable home base for exploring the capital! Loves the location near shops, food, and metro

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this little apartment! Overall, the owners were accessible and we would absolutely recommend this spot to friends! The apartment had all the essentials -and was the perfect place to come home and crash after a long day exploring DC.

pros and cons but the cons won :-(

  • 3 of 5

The pros: This is actually a very attractive little place in a lovely quiet neighborhood, with a comfy king-sized bed, an easy Uber ride to the Smithsonian, etc -- and the apartment is clean and neat.

The cons made our stay frustrating:

-- The shower faucet would spin around 360 degrees. We had the option of tepid or scalding, and very weak stream.

-- It had frequently slow to non-existent internet and tv connections. This was a research/working trip, not a vacation, so internet was CRUCIAL to us, as we'd told our hosts in our initial contact.

-- Because this was a working trip, we'd planned to cook and eat in. The kitchen is perfect -- but the cookware is deplorable and the bare minimum. I had to go out to buy my own measuring cups, oven mitts, basic staples, etc.

-- There is a nice desk area in the bedroom -- with no lighting. There is one overhead light in the bedroom which is insufficient.

-- The furniture is not as pictured. The armchair is gone, and we WISH that nice couch were there but it's been replaced by a very uncomfortable futon. The nice rug has been replaced by a stained, seedy-looking one. The bottom of one of the bathroom drawers is also missing, rendering it useless.

-- While the area is quiet, the upstairs neighbors aren't -- they must have a toddler, as the running little footsteps are VERY loud, and non-stop. We have 10 grandkids and we've never heard a child run this much -- hours non-stop every evening from around 5 to 9 pm and then again at 6 am each morning. Obviously the managers can't help this, and we chuckled over the kid's energy, but it was still surprisingly loud.

I did contact the owners about our internet concerns and they immediately contacted Comcast, who said there was no problem. There was. We didn't contact them a second time about our other concerns -- they were VERY nice and I suspect had we done so, they might have tried to correct at least some of these issues. We were just too busy working to have to follow through on property issues. It's clear they manage several properties and frankly, the place seems undermanaged and ill-maintained (except for the cleanliness, which was excellent.)

All said, if you're coming on a pleasure trip, planning to eat out, and the managers make a few small additions/repairs, it would be a very nice stay. It just needs a little attention, and if the shower and internet situations were corrected, we'd stay again!

Clean, comfortable, great neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

I consider myself very fortunate to have found this rental. It was close enough to catch the metro and to eat at some great restaurants/bars (I suggest you look up Harold Black speakeasy in the Eastern Market area). The only downfalls of this rental were: weaker shower head water pressure, sometimes a poor quality of cable tv picture (that's more of the cable company's fault than the rental....and we weren't really there to watch tv anyway), and lastly, the lock holding the key was super tricky to open....but after speaking with Cliff, we found out that they had changed the entryway to a keypad.....so no key needed! Thank you again for hosting us!
