About the property

Princess Cottage in Kapoho Beach Lots is a great value for the location! Swim in or lounge by the Princess Pond on the property or walk a couple of blocks to famed Champagne Pond. Two bedrooms, one bath. Sleeps 4!

Princess Cottage is a fantastic value in a unique and memorable location. This traditional 2 bedroom beach cottage is located in the heart of Kapoho Beach Lots, a quiet residential community on the eastern tip of Hawaii's Big Island. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom, accommodating up to 4 guests. A large, private, geothermally heated tidal pond commands most of the front yard, complete with a lounging patio with chairs and a BBQ that overlooks the clear waters. You'll spend lots of time on the spacious, covered lanai relaxing after a good swim, enjoying your favorite book, or talking story with your travel mates over evening cocktails.

Princess Cottage is across the narrow lane from Champagne Pond – in just a minute or two you can walk to the nearest access point and enjoy of one of East Hawaii's best swimming spots. Protected by a reef, Champagne Pond is a calm body of water fed by underground hot springs and heated to a luxurious 90 degrees where Honu (green sea turtles) can often be found. Snorkel in the thermally warmed waters or simply float on the surface while enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

Everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing Hawaiian getaway is provided at Princess Cottage.  One bedroom is in the main part of the house just off the living room and has a double bed, closet and dresser. Check the closet for books and board games to add enjoyment to your stay. The other bedroom is detached for extra privacy, with a private entrance from the lanai. This bedroom is furnished with a queen bed and large armoire with plenty of hangers.

The living room is appointed with a matching loveseat, rocking chair and a chair with ottoman. There is a TV with satellite reception and a DVD player. A CD player with AM/FM radio provides for your musical enjoyment. The open floorplan combines the living room, dining area and kitchen and has open beam ceilings and a ceiling fan to keep the air flowing. A sliding glass door opens to the large lanai. The full bathroom has a vanity and shower-over-tub, and also houses the washer and dryer.

The full kitchen is outfitted with everything you'll need to prepare, cook and serve meals. There's an electric range, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, coffee grinder, blender, toaster, rice cooker and plenty of cookware, dishes and utensils.  The country style dining table has seating for 4. There's also a dining table outside on the large covered lanai where you can enjoy your meals out-of-doors.

If cooking isn't your thing, there are great restaurants in Pahoa Village about a ten minute drive away. Hilo is another 30 minutes from Pahoa where you will find the Hilo International Airport, large grocery stores, movie theater, museums, cultural centers and so much more. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is an hour away.

There are some fantastic spots to explore in the Kapoho area as well.  You'll have a blast exploring along the Red Road – one of the most beautiful drives you'll ever take. Heading south from Kapoho you'll find the Wai Opae Marine Conservation Area – AKA the Kapoho Tidepools – with some of the best snorkeling in the state. Head south and you'll discover Ahalanui Park, aka Millionaires Pond, where a large lagoon at the ocean's edge that is heated by hot springs to near Jacuzzi temperature, as well as pavilions and BBQs. A couple more miles south is Isaac Hale Park at Pohoiki Bay the local hot spot for surfing and boogie boarding, that is also home to the boat ramp that the lava viewing boats use.  Kehena Black Sand Beach is a 15 minute drive – it's unofficially clothing optional but don't let that bother you; most beach goers do wear swim suits. Drive another 10 minutes past Kehena and you'll reach “the end of the road”.  Here's where you can get to the Kalapana lava viewing area, where Pele often puts on a show, and find Uncle Robert's Awa Bar where a festive Wednesday night market with live music, great food, and local artisans selling their handmade items.

Reviewer Comments:

The house is basic and charming, suited to the locale, unlike big, newer, out-of-place looking houses. Separate bedroom off the deck makes for very comfortable arrangement if you have 2 couples. Too bad about the coqui frogs; take earplugs if you're a light sleeper (for the whole area).

Two weeks in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful, once in a lifetime experience. After talking with friends who had stayed here in the past, we decided to spend two weeks at the cottage in March 2104. The area and people truly became our home away from home. We found so much to do and see that we could've easily enjoyed another two weeks! The Princess Cottage is one of the best values in the entire area and provides the perfect relaxing environment for your stay. The owners are nearby and provide a wealth of information and suggestions for everything from what to do to where to eat and shop. The cottage itself is clean, comfortable and secure, easily handling the four adults we had during our stay. The location is away from all of the typically touristy things Hawaii has to offer, but close enough that a day excursion can take you almost anywhere on the island. The local towns and farmers markets provide a view of what it is really like to live on the Big Island. We typically ate one meal a day away from the cottage and found that local restaurant prices were reasonable, and the food was excellent at every place we tried. During the evenings we returned to the cottage and relaxed with drinks on the large comfortable lanai, enjoying the cool breezes. It was the perfect place to talk through the day's adventures and plan for the next. I highly recommend staying at the Princess Cottage for your next vacation on the Big Island.

The star responses do not reflect mine. This is fraudulent.

The house was clean; very little privacy. Not worth the price. I was accused of keeping a key and told I would be charged $200 for it, by email. I got an apology for your mistake. If I did not check my email, you would have ripped me off.

NEVER again will I rent from your co. Again! You are totally inadequate. We are coming back in Oct.......the whole family. You have a lot of nerve. You will never be recommended by my family, & we are locals. Disgrace to Puna.

Owner's Response: We believe the general tone of this mindset provides a wonderful indication of the overall attitude and mindset of the former guest - combative. We think that says it all.
