About Pamela Sutherland, Chris Leighton
We are close friends who started out as bridge partners. We love to spend time together cooking and playing games at our beautiful cabin. We spend every New Year's Eve at the cabin and have a tradition of cooking something fabulous. Our other tradition is to stop by Lightning Ridge Vineyard in route down from Tucson and pick up some of their amazing Montepulciano -- it is amazing. Chris is pictured behind the glass and Pamela is hiding. Our other partner is Michael, a well known interior designer in Tucson (Fox Theatre, Hotel Congress) who worked his magic on this lovely space.

Why Pamela Sutherland, Chris Leighton chose Cochise County
The cabin is very special because it is so luxurious yet so private and away from it all. Sunsets are spectacular and nights perhaps even more so with the Milky Way spreading across the sky. We find that we just r e l a x there ... in a way we don't elsewhere. The Arizona Trail is a short walk from the cabin, and Pamela and some friends have been doing bits of the trail over the years. Maybe one day we will finish!
What makes this Cabin unique
Health benefits from the outdoors! Life benefits from wine, food, and fresh air! We don't fish but you can in the stocked lake-- fishing has long been considered by many to be incredibly healthy and certainly eating fish is something we should all do to benefit our health!

Great place to spend a relaxing week
This cabin is a very pleasant place to relax and hang out with friends. The kitchen has every utensil that a cook might need, as well as a wide selection of spices and condiments. All the linens and other needed household items are included. The cabin solar-electric system functions perfectly and provides plenty of power for lights, TV and WiFi use. The cabin itself has beautiful wood construction. The broad deck offers great views and a place to soak up springtime sunshine.
Undoubtly, a fantastic view of Parker Canyon Lake and surrounding area
I will preface my review to admit it is partially affected by the fact that I was shocked to discover that the cabin’s electric is supplied entirely by solar power. This information was not given until just before we were due to arrive along with the instructions on how to get there. This may be a big plus for some people, but I felt deceived. In my book, Luxury doesn’t include cooking by hurricane lamps. This was nessicitated by a 4 day stretch of rain, therefore limited sun.
Things we loved; the deck, the layout (2bdrms, 2 baths), lots of towels etc, the cabin is furnished nicely. The fireplace was a lifesaver.
Things that could use improvement; generator backup for power. Cleaning, ie floors, windows, stove, lanterns. The surrounding area could use some sprucing up as well. Cleaning out some drawers and cupboards to make space for guests things would be helpful as well.
The driveway is a challenge. 4 wheel drive is a must.
In the end, the two weeks spent here with wonderful friends was a great get away. Definitely away from the bustling crowd, just time spent enjoying each other. Lots of laughs. It was an adventure. Very near Parker Lake so lots of opportunity for hiking, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing boats etc. available at the marina.
The accommodations we're exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed the fact that is was so remote and still had the comforts of home. We would choose this location and home again.
Excellent accommodations in a beautiful location
Stayed for a week in the monsoon season in August, would happily stay there again, and recommend it for anyone interesting in having a quiet, peaceful and very well-appointed place to stay while exploring a beautiful area. 'Luxury cabin' is an accurate description, with high-quality furnishings, cookware, and appliances, and two very comfortable bedrooms, each with its own bath. The views from the deck are lovely. We saw deer in the yard, and heard coyotes and poorwills at night. Having a high-clearance vehicle is a plus for travel in that area (a necessity in the rainy season), and well worth it for the spectacular drive over the Huachucas to Sierra Vista, or the drive along Box Canyon road to Madera Canyon. We didn't meet the owners, but they were helpful and very responsive via email. It's a very special place. We appreciated having the opportunity to stay there, and it was hard to leave.
Additional information about rental rates
The cabin is located 75 miles east of Tucson. It is in a remote location surrounded by National Forest. The closest grocery store is in Sierra Vista so it is important for you to bring whatever you need for food and beverages. There are staples such as sugar, flour, spices and some condiments in the fridge -- you are welcome to use anything there, just check the dates. You should also bring ice for your cooler, although there is a small store at the lake that has ice and a few sundries. The store also sells fishing licenses, rents boats, and have bait for fishing. Parker Canyon Lake is stocked with fish annually. You will typically see deer, javelina, lots of birds and the occasional turkey. There is a wrap around deck which affords views of the lake, surrounding countryside and the San Rafael valley in Mexico and beyond. We have plenty of books to help you identify wildlife, possible hikes, and the surrounding geography. The night skies are exquisite, so be prepared to experience the Milky Way and shooting stars (depending on the time of year). Amenities: 2 BR, 2 bath, loft with 2 twin beds, fridge, stove, grill, TV with satellite, Wifi, wet bar, wrap around deck with table, chairs with cushions, pots and pans, dishes, silverware and cooking utensils; beds are made, fresh towels are in the bathrooms. All paper products supplied. Coffee is made with a French press. Water: The cabin is supplied with water by the homeowners' water company. When you pull into the driveway, stop and turn on the water valve which is located in an irrigation box on the left side of the driveway. Electricity: This is a solar powered home. There is usually plenty of power to run lights and TV in the evening, but be conscious of electric use. The LED panel in the hallway tells the volts available in the batteries; if it gets below 11.8, you should turn things off (the TV and satellite are the worst drains on the batteries). A detailed list will be available at the cabin when you arrive.
