We had our tiny family (2 yrd old twins) at the house for almost 2 weeks over Christmas and it was PERFECT for us! The property is beautiful, the Alpacas are adorable and we had everything we needed in the little house. The fireplace made it very cozy! Victoria was a wonderful host and was right there if we needed her, but still the stay was very private! We would LOVE to come back in the summer! My only suggestion: get those knives sharpened! :) But otherwise, it really provided everything we needed.

Owner's Response: Leah and family were wonderful guests to host and the twins are adorable and such a pleasure to know that the perfect white Christmas was fully enjoyed by the little ones. Thank you for the note about the knives, I always appreciate feedback. Will get that done.

Glorious Thanksgiving weekend

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a marvellous stay for the long weekend in this delightful setting. The cottage is fully equipped including the kitchen-although I brought my favourite cooking tools, I needn't have. The setting is magical and the autumn sun beaming on sunflowers and garden is something my family will always remember, as well as visits from alpacas and donkeys! The cottage is cozy and warm and the beds are very comfortable. We were a party of 3, with 4 guests invited for Thanksgiving dinner, and the 7 of us were seated comfortably at the dining room table. The neighbourhood is perfect for long walks, and yet town is a close by. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing quick break away- our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer, and will do so when we book again, which hopefully will be very soon.

Warm home, warm hosts

  • 4 of 5

What a beautiful place to stay in Cowichan. The home was clean and bright with big windows onto mountain views. We could see the Llamas coming for breakfast in the morning. Although evenings were cold outsides the house was cozy inside and we didn't bother with the wood stove. The kitchen was well supplied with pots, pans etc. And we found local lamb, local vegetables and wonderful local wine. Our hostess even offered fresh herbs and apples from her own gardens and orchard. It was the perfect base for hiking along the Cowichan River, looking for wineries, and a short drive to the theatre in Chemainus. I sat outside to read, glass of wine in hand, in the late afternoon sun and a friendly cat came to join me. Two bedrooms, a bath and a half and even a laundry made it comfy for two couples. Thanks so much, we'll be back - Iain and Maggie

Great home base for exploring the Island!

  • 4 of 5

This property is a great location! We stayed for three weeks, making this our 'home base' for jaunts to Victoria, Nanaimo, Parksville, Rathtrevor, and others. The house is quaint and totally served our needs. A huge television for our Netflix binging in the evenings. A gorgeous property in an idyllic country setting, while still a five-minute drive into town for Starbucks. The owners were friendly and knowledgable about the area. We would definitely recommend this rental!

Lovely country living with modern amenities.

  • 4 of 5

The house is set in a valley surrounded by mountains and fields which makes for great views as you sit outside. The garden is landscaped and Full of wild flowers and lavender. It is also centrally located if you want to go sight seeing., hiking , biking etc...there are alpacas and donkeys on site. It is fun being able to feed them from the apples in the orchard which is also on the property.

The accommodations are comfortable and clean. Each window of the house has a view . We particularly liked the one from the kitchen and the one from the dining room. It was easy living with the benefits of being on a farmstead.

Do not miss going to Port Renfrew it is a great walk to the ocean on the western side of the island. Cowichan bay is not far and has great little restaurants on the port.

A Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We spent five weeks at this cottage, just outside Duncan, B.C. If you're looking for luxury accommodation, go to a hotel, but if you want a spacious and comfortable, reasonably priced home-away-from-home this is the place for you and your family. We loved it. It's a rustic old farm house set on 11 acres. John and Victoria, our hosts, live next door, but there is an excellent sense of privacy here. Two bathrooms, a reasonably well-equipped kitchen (no dishwasher, but we were okay with that.) Two bedrooms, a high efficiency wood stove and baseboard heat. Good internet and TV for those rainy winter nights. It's furnished with an eclectic collection of cottage style furniture. Homey is how how it felt. Raffi and Pumpkin, the two donkeys provide the outside entertainment. They are a couple of characters and we got friendly with them and the small herd of Alpaacas. We made sure to have carrots on hand for some young visitors, family from Vancouver, who enjoyed feeding them carrots, through the fence. These are not pets, they are farm animals, not dangerous, but parental supervision is important here. There's a gorgeous view of Mt. Prevost out the large back windows. There's a small couch in the kitchen. At first we weren't sure why it was there, but now we totally get it. The perfect place to sit and watch the ever-changing sky. Victoria is a master gardener and while we were there, we watched the flowers begin to bloom. We were told that in the summer, the yard is a sight to behold. This is an excellent location, just outside the city of Duncan. It takes just a couple of minutes by car to get from this rural setting to grocery stores in and everything else in town and it's a short drive down to the Cowichan Bay and the other funky small communities on the ocean. You will need a car here. Don't hesitate to book this, but you'll have to get in line, because we're going back next year. Thanks to Victoria, John and Ella for the wonderful stay.
