Quiet, Comfortable,Affordable House with Tidal Salt Water View

Bedrooms 2
Property type house

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Nestled in the woods of Maine,is our haven for quiet, private, relaxation on the ocean cove. Great Ledge House is a retreat house for those of you looking for Maine's slogan, 'The way life should be,' can find it at the Great Ledge House.

Great Ledge House vacation rental is located 5.5 miles from Ellsworth, Maine, the gateway to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and Mt. Desert Island. Enjoy your Maine vacation at our beautiful house for rent either by the week or for long weekend retreats.

Our getaway house will someday be our retirement home. But until then, we hope to extend the opportunity to you to have a comfortably delightful place to stay in the beautiful state of Maine.

Great Ledge House is down a road leading out onto the Great Ledge peninsula. This peninsula goes out into Frenchman Bay, which then opens out to the Atlantic Ocean. The tides are very

extreme this far north and the coves in front of our house and off our little peninsula fill up at full tide; and then the water recedes completely at low tide to show the mud flats.

The constant tidal changes enhance the bird life in our area.

The house is located 5.5 miles outside of Ellsworth, Maine. Ellsworth is a busy community which provides the jump off point out to Mount Desert Island where Bar Harbor, Maine

and Acadia National Park are located. Bar Harbor and Acadia are 13 miles from the house. When you visit, don’t miss the more northern part of Acadia National Park, which

is farther up Route 1 from Ellsworth, and is known as The Schoodic Peninsula. The “Schoodic” provides some of the best coastal Maine scenes there are to be seen.

One of Maine’s true assets is its people. You will find them friendly, casual, and helpful. Have a restful visit, and let us know how we can improve your stay at our Great Ledge House the next time you can come!

With warm regards,

Sarah and Michael Ciampa

Walk across the road from the house, and spend time on our private Pine Tree Peninsula. Great spot to lay out a blanket on the rock shore: have a picnic, or meditate, or just enjoy the bird show over the picturesque Maine water scene. The pine trees really do come all the way down to the water.

Very relaxing and away from all the craziness of Bar Harbor. Definitely recommend this cabin!!

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable and very relaxing. Within 20 to 25 minutes from Acadia depending on any traffic. We loved leaving the crowded areas of Bar Harbor and Acadia and returning to the quiet cabin area. I would recommend this cabin for anyones stay in the area.

Quiet and comfortable escape

  • 5 of 5

We have family in Hancock; just down Mud Creek. We've stayed at Great Ledge house 5 times. It has everything we need for a relaxing stay. It is a great location. We can easily go to Acadia National Park or shop at the LLBean outlet down the road in Ellsworth. One year we drove up the coast to Canada to see the Roosevelt home on Campobella Island. There is so much to do in the area and the Great Ledge House makes a perfect home-base. And Maine in summer is so much better than summer in Texas.

We had a great stay - wish we could have stayed longer. It was so wonderful to be in the woods surrounded by water . We enjoyed watching the sun rise and peaceful breakfasts on the porch . Great location so easy to get to Acadia and Ellsworth yet very private .

Lovely, cozy, escape

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here for a few nights with my two teenagers and we all loved it so much. While not exactly next to Acadia, we spent full days hiking there and found the peaceful, petty home worth the few extra minutes. It is lovely to wake up in the loft and see the sparkly cove through the trees. I hope to come back soon.

About Sarah & Michael

Michael&Sarah purchased the property to fill a life long love with the coast of Maine. Michael designed and built the house.

Sarah & Michael purchased this house in 1996

Why Sarah & Michael chose Lamoine

We chose this location because of the endless beauty we find looking out at the tidal water view. We love the easy driving distance to Acadia/Bar Harbor, as well as the charming 'Schoodic' area and the endless amount of hiking trails and coastal towns to discover. We also love the close proximity to the "city" of Ellsworth. It has great shopping and restaurants, museums and an activity local community.

What makes this house unique

It is quiet and relaxing. We enjoy walking over to our private tree lined granite ledge peninsula that juts out into the cove. We have picnics, view the birdlife, meditate and simply unwind.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Dear Sarah,

Just wanted to let you know what a WONDERFUL time we had at the Great Ledge house this past week. The house is so charming, and we had a ball cooking, eating on the deck, laughing, sitting by the peninsula and everything. We took a few trips into Acadia, which was absolutely tremendous. Thank you for making our first trip to Maine so special! You can bet that we will be back.

Hope you had a lovely fourth.

All best,
