About Alison Scanlon
When I'm not in France -- which is where I go whenever I get the chance and always stay in vacation rental homes when I do! -- I split my time between this house and my down-county apartment with my husband. I work as a high school English and French teacher, and coordinate the International Baccalaureate program at my school. I have owned this house since 2000, and have loved the renovation process, doing most of the work myself every step of the way. This 1860 home, which originally belonged to the town miller, needed a new roof, windows, siding, foundation, bathroom, kitchen, landscaping, patio, you name it. It's been a labor of love and I'm so happy with the way it turned out. I hope you do too!
Alison Scanlon purchased this Farmhouse in 1999
Why Alison Scanlon chose Poughquag
This house has been fully-renovated. There is plenty of light, but it still has the charm and history of the days when Lincoln was president. You can still see the axe-marks in the exposed hand-hewn beams! There is plenty of light because of the additional windows, french doors, and skylights added during the renovation process. In the summer you can swim in the creek (it ranges from 1-4 feet deep) and lounge on the patio.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
This house is close to many Hudson Valley attractions, while conveniently located less than 3 miles off the Taconic State Parkway, so you won't get lost getting here. It is about 1.5 miles to a grocery store and a Dunkin Donuts so you won't lack for supplies! Close to Beacon with the Towne Crier Cafe and the Dia Beacon Modern Art Museum, the villages of Millbrook and Pawling, and Daryl's House, a new nightclub owned by Daryl Hall of Hall and Oates. Hudson Valley historic sites and winery tours, the Appalachian Trail (5 minutes away), the Hudson Valley Rail Trail which you can take all the way to the Walkway Over the Hudson, and MUCH more. I have lived in the area my entire life and am happy to offer tips and suggestions for your stay.

I stayed here with 6 friends for a relaxing weekend. The house was beautiful and clean. I would definitely recommend this home!
It was 2 adults and a 2 year old toddler. Home is beautiful, comfortable and clean. Alison is a great host. She met us at the house and explained how things worked. We didn't hear outside noise and even though cars drive by all the time we didn't hear them at all. Bathroom worked great for us with standup shower & a tub for the little one. Cereal & coffee pods were available for us. House is clean no smells of any sort. Patio is big and perfect for grilling. Kitchen is stocked with plenty of utensils. We went to the farm close by spent the whole day there. Also, the waterpark in Fishhkill was a hit. When our daughter went to bed we enjoyed catching up on Netflix shows. Stop & shop and Dunkin donuts not far off. Fishkill has some shopping and fast food restaurants. We also went to poughkeepsie on our way back home stopped at Bounce so our daughter could play- about 20 minutes away. Lots of options for food and shopping there with Target, Shop Rite, and others. Walmart is 20 minutes away opposite direction. We would definetely return to this house because of clealiness and free of smells as well as peacefulness. Alison is attentive.
Beautiful old house with all that you need for a getaway
Alison is a wonderful host, very responsive, helpful and thoughtful. She's thought of everything.
The house has everything you need and feels very homey. It's a beautiful old building, so much history and character but also comfortable! I wish it was warmer while we were there so we could play in the creek but the cooler weather allowed us to make the most of the fire pit and the gorgeous old stove in the house.
I would definitely stay there again!
Beautiful home for a weekend escape
Stayed for a weekend and had a great time. House is beautiful, lots of charm, fully equipped, and on a nice property. Relatively easy to access from the Pawling Metro North station, so we didn't need to rent a car, which was great!
The only downside is that the property is on two roads which are a bit busy; if it weren't for that, I would definitely have given it 5 stars. The roads are NOT a deal breaker and we still had a relaxing weekend, but if you're looking for something really secluded, this isn't your best bet.
Finally, Alison was a terrific host. Extremely helpful, kind, and responsive. Thanks!
The home was very comfortable and charming and Alison was helpful and welcoming. We had a great stay and would stay here again for a return visit to the area.
Wonderful home and property
Whole experience was wonderful. Home is great, very well equipped and so comfortable. Outside area is so beautiful and also very comfortable. You do hear some street noise (traffic) while outside but not a problem. Owner was so accommodating and helpful. We look forward to staying here again!!!!
