About the property

Oceanfront Home on 12 private acres: 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 8-10

Come experience, and be mesmerized by the crashing surf, beauty, and history of the Pemaquid Point Peninsula.

'Ledgewood Cottage' sits on 12 private oceanfront acres and is the only property on Long Cove Point.

The cottage has a sunny, open floor plan which provides a great place to relax and enjoy the gorgeous views, listen to the crashing surf, or watch the lobster boats and seagulls float by. Enjoy the the upper deck, or lower screened-in porch, both with commanding ocean views.

Enjoy total relaxation sitting on the granite cliffs with your favorite book or paint brush and canvas, not to mention your camera so you can capture the beauty of the coastline of Maine.

The cottage is a great place for a family reunion or group of friends, and sleeps 8-10 comfortably in 4 bedrooms.

There is a large open living area which expands into the spacious kitchen with a large island to gather around for casual meals, or enjoy eating in the large dining area, both with great views!

On the lower level there is another gathering room, bedroom (with Queen bedroom) and full bath which is very private from the main living area.

Pemaquid Point, with its dramatic streaks of granite, shaped by thousands of years of glacial movement offers what few other coastal locations in Maine have, the incredible 'drama' of magnificent rock formations which lend themselves to the sea.

The name 'Pemaquid' Is said to have its origins in the Abenaki Indian word for 'Situated Far Out'. Immigrants from Bristol, England established a settlement in Pemaquid in 1631.

Today, many of the historic sites still exist for you to experience.

Today, Pemaquid is an active center for the traditional trades of Lobstering, fishing, and clamming. Mussels, and Oysters are cultivated in the Damariscotta River, and are some of the best in the world.

Enjoy the beaches, wonderful restaurants, including lobster pounds, funky road side seashacks, and sit down meals all nearby, and many boating excursions which will allow you to experience the breathtaking coast.

Visit the magnificent Monhegan Island, rich with its artistic history of many great American painters, most notebly the Wyeth Family (NC, Andrew and Jamie) and see painters of today and tomorrow working. Explore the coastline with its breathtaking views which will last a lifetime. (Daily access by several boat excursions)

Many other boat excursions include nature cruises, puffin cruises, whale watching and fishing.

The nearby villages of Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, Wiscasset, to name just a few, offer wonderful site seeing, restaurants and activites for every age.

Great vacation for friends and family.

This vacation home met all of our expectations, including the crashing waves. Good location base for local sightseeing and day-trips to Camden and Boothbay. Great deck for relaxing and watching the local lobster boats.

Great multi-generational family spot!

  • 5 of 5

If you want privacy, wide open views, astonishing sun & moon-rises, and the sound of crashing surf, take a look at this rental. Plenty of room for three generations to spread out on three levels, plus the massive rocks to scramble around on, and a wood platform by the ocean to take in the view. The screened-in porch was a great spot to set up a lobster dinner or a jigsaw puzzle. The deck on the main floor was perfect for morning coffee. The kitchen is big enough to work in and had all the basics and then some, though I'd recommend bringing a favorite pan or two from home. For those sure of foot, climbing the rocks is great fun, and a perfect perch for fishing. A couple of the more adventurous in the group jumped into the water at high tide, but way too cold for me! (A note about the rocks -- the teenaged cousins in the group were fine out there, but more than once, I thought about how glad I was that they were old enough to handle to climb; I would not have wanted to police those rocks with littler kids for the entire trip.) There was a yellow jacket nest under the wood deck by the ocean when we arrived, and Laura was wonderful about getting someone out to take care of it for us, and had great tips on where to eat. (There's a visitor's book in the house with lots of notes -- excellent resource!) With two weeks, we were able to get a real feel for the Pemequid Peninsula and all there is to do there, which is a lot -- I definitely see a return trip in the future!

What a house for a family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This was our very first time staying at Ledgewood Cottage and I have to say our family is hooked! We have been coming to the area for over 30 years with my parents and have always camped. My parents are now getting up there in age and we are finding that camping even in RV's is becoming difficult so this year we opted to all rent a house we could all be together at! This house was just what the Doctor ordered as my Mom fell immediately in love with the house itself, but to be able to see and smell the ocean from the kitchen, dining and living room was wonderful! There were 10 of us all ranging from the age 70+ to the age of 1 and there was plenty of room for all and so much for everyone to do at the house and in the area! It was so much fun to be able to go down on the rocks and just relax with the sounds of the ocean. We have all decided this will be our new annual family trip... Can't wait until next July! Thank you for letting us share your beautiful home!!

Beautiful views, private, relaxing and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful place to relax and get away from it all. The setting is very private and the views are fabulous! The photos do not capture the wonderful view from the kitchen/dining and living rooms. The sound of the ocean can be heard from every room in the house. The living areas were spacious and the house was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen and outdoor gas grill made it easy to make wonderful meals and enjoy the view at the same time. We especially enjoyed climbing on the rocks and watching the various birds, boats as well as the crashing waves. We had fabulous weather-- even the one storm was amazing to watch from the living room. Boat trips to Monhegan Island and to watch the puffins, as well as a day sail were easy from here. We really want to come back again! Thank you for sharing your special home!

Fabulous ocean views from living room and kitchen !

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the fantastic ocean views from the living room and kitchen !! The home is very private, and we enjoyed watching the boats, birds, and the crashing surf. There is a path from the house down to the rocks from where the views are breath taking. There is a booklet with information about things to do in the area. The binoculars and Wifi were a nice touch. There are not too many channels on TV, but there were many games and jigsaw puzzles that we played.

Had a fun trip to the top of the Pemaquid lighthouse, Pemaquid beach, Boothbay railway village and botanical gardens during this stay. Pictures don't do this house justice, and we would love to return. Thank you Laura. We had a wonderful vacation !
