An old farm house, recently fully modernised, it has spacious accommodation and provides a well-equipped and comfortable base for a relaxing holiday. This part of the Charente boasts one of the best climates in France, with the highest number of sunshine hours after the Mediterranean. Surrounded by gently rolling hills and sunflower fields, Gendaine makes an ideal base for a wide variety of outdoor pursuits.Nearby villages are full of activity, with places to visit, dine and drink. Our local bistro restaurant is only a short walk. Full details and more photographs can be found on our website but there are 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large lounge and dining area and a fully fitted kitchen with all modern conveniences. Outside on the large secluded veranda there is a shaded lounge and dining area and Weber Gas BBQ. There is a superb salt water private swimming pool (12x 6m) with a large patio for basking in the sun in complete privacy. There is also a log burning stove and central heating for the winter.

Beautiful house in a charming area of France
Our second visit to Gendaine and it is as lovely and well looked after as before. Well equipped kitchen, gorgeous pool and lovely comfy beds. The area is great for families and we enjoyed some lovely days out as well as just relaxing and enjoying the pool. The lovely new verandah is a wonderful addition and we had some great barbeques watching the sunset.
Thank you so much for your review and we are delighted that you approve of the new veranda and, of course, that you enjoyed your holiday at Gendaine once again.
We are always happy to welcome you back......

The perfect restful family holiday.
We had a wonderful two weeks at Gendaine away from very busy lives and fully focused on family time together.
The house itself could not have been more comfortable, fully equipped with everything we could have needed. The outside seating, dining area, and BBQ really lead us to spend our whole time outside which was a delight. The pool was perfect with the shallow sloping entrance from the steps and the kids (Jack 9 & Isla 5) spent hours a day swimming and playing happily, they really didn’t want to do much else. Isla learnt to swim which was a real extra bonus considering we've been taking her to lessons for quite a while.
We visited many of the local villages and towns, Aubeterre, Saint-Aulaye, Riberac, and ate at lots of different restaurants and Crêperies. We’re all on a cheese and ice-cream detox for a few weeks now!
The high ropes at Saint-Aulaye come highly recommend for the children, a lower level for the younger and more difficult high ropes for the older. A great way to spend an afternoon.
We hope to be back in a couple of years!
Thank you so much for your positive review and we are both delighted that you all enjoyed your holiday so much. Just like your daughter two of our grandchildren have also learned to swim in that pool.....
Look forward to having you back anytime,

Peace and Tranquility
Superb, well equipped house in peaceful surroundings. We all enjoyed the large, warm pool, very relaxing. The house remained cool inside even when the outside temperature hit 37. We would highly recommend a game of Boule in the garden over a large Pastis.
It was good of you to leave such a favourable review. We really value the feedback and are always pleased when our guests enjoy themselves. Many thanks,
David & Jane
Perfect hot hot hot week in France
As experienced French Gite holidayers, Gendaine was a good one!!
What we loved:-
The pool, excellent water quality
The sofas in the evenings
The telescope - we saw the moon, venus, pluto and jupiter
The Artisan bakery in Bonne - dangerous for the waistline!
Kayaking in Aubeterre
Horse Riding at the stable close by run by English/French lady called Martha - card on the pinboard
The Creperie in Aubeterre
The church in the cave
For us our annual week to France is not about sightseeing lots but lounging around a pool, eating, sleeping, reading books, BBqueing late, drinking too much French wine and eating way too much bread and cheese!!
Gendaine fitted the bill nicely.
P.S. Yes there is the odd wasp/hornet as others have mentioned but you are in rural France what do you expect (we have stayed in areas with loads more and this was nothing in comparison)
Many thanks for such a positive review, we really appreciate your feedback.

Perfect family holiday retreat
We are a family of five with three girls aged 13, 11 and 9. As parents all we wanted was total R&R in the sun and the girls wanted to swim and eat Moules et frites, have space to run about and also do their own thing! It's hard to get that balance. Not at Gendaine. It ticks every box.
It's a beautiful villa, perfect size for us, the rooms are spacious and light and have everything you could possibly need. We cooked every night and found the kitchen very well equipped with all the necessary gadgets. We then ate outside on the veranda, all but two night and would sit out until late playing games.
The setting is stunning, the pool is fantastic, with an alarm and lockable gate for peace of mind and spacious sunbathing area. It also has a large grassed area where we played badminton most nights, there was pick up sticks, boules, giant dominoes, table tennis and lots of games. The girls loved the hammock as it was a little sanctuary for them.
The weather was beautifully hot (highest was 34 degrees in the shade) with a breeze on most days - perfect.
We had a perfect holiday and we recommend you look no further. We ventured out only a handful of times for a couple of lunches, sightseeing, a market, to shop and there is lots to close by but we were actually surprised how contented we were to just stay put and enjoy what Gendaine had to offer.
Thank you David, Jane and Emma for a wonderful, most memorable holiday, we hope to be back.
Thank you so much for your review and we are all delighted that you enjoyed your holiday. We would be pleased to have you back anytime.

The old Roman town of Aubeterre sur Dronne, recently voted one of the prettiest villages in France, is only a short drive away. A favourite place to shop, eat, drink and relax under the lime trees in the square. Slightly further are the market towns of Chalais and Riberac (with one of the biggest markets in France!).There are a variety of local festivals, fetes and firework displays that take place throughout the Summer. About a 45 minute drive, are the capital towns of Angouleme and Perigeux which offer a wider and more sophisticated range of shops in a typically French setting. Also within easy reach are towns such as St. Emilion, Bergerac, Cognac and Bordeaux, all famous for their wines and spirits and equally beautiful places to visit. Beyond Bordeaux are the unspoilt beaches of the Atlantic coast with several superb resorts within a reasonable drive. Families with children will enjoy day trips to the popular attractions of the Aqualand Water Park, La Palmyre Zoo and Futuroscope.
Other Activities: Canoeing and quad biking,
