Gorgeous Farmhouse - 2 Miles to Goose Rocks Beach & Downtown

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

A beautiful modern farmhouse on three private acres. Lovingly restored; designed by a prominent Maine architect to retain the home’s classic New Englander charm, with completely new kitchen, new bathrooms, gleaming new wide plank pine floors throughout, new windows, new appliances, new mattresses, new everything. A comfortable and inviting home: sparkling clean, light, airy and open.

Our ideal guests are a mature couple, or couples, who can appreciate the cleanliness and tranquility of the house and property and who would be willing to maintain the house in its current condition.

Three bedrooms sleep up to six people: The master queen bedroom downstairs is connected to a large private master bathroom. The 2nd queen bedroom upstairs and the 3rd bedroom upstairs (with two twin beds) both easily access the 2nd full bathroom located at bottom of stairs.

There are beautiful outdoor spaces: decks, large grassy lawns, fields, woods, and rocky ledges. Sunset views from spacious windows in large open living/dining area.

Perfectly located halfway between the idyllic white sands of Goose Rocks Beach and the lovely quaint downtown of Kennebunkport – two miles from each. The characteristic fishing/lobstering village of Cape Porpoise is also just two miles away. Just a short drive to many other local beaches, numerous hiking and biking areas such as the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge and Conservation Trust land, and to countless other sights and activities (see points of interest map, below).

Downtown Kennebunkport is filled with shops, galleries, local artist offerings, and restaurants to suit everyone's tastes - from fine dining with a full range of lobster and seafood offerings to local breweries and chowder and clam shacks.

Spend the day luxuriating on the spectacular and tranquil Goose Rocks Beach, swim in its warm (for Maine!) waters. Enjoy nearby tennis, golf, or horse riding. Do some local sightseeing, take a boat ride, see a light house. Enjoy a cold beer at the famous Federal Jack's Brewery. Experience fine dining at the elegant Pier 77 in Cape Porpoise or enjoy a simple fish fry with the locals at the Pilot House. Return to your inviting 'new' home to gaze at the bright stars from your deck, catch a firefly, or listen to the night-time music of the frogs and crickets.

Only a thirty minute drive south from Portland’s International Jetport, or a 1 hour and 15 minute drive north from Boston’s Logan International Airport.

Why Annette Rau chose Kennebunkport

The Goose Rocks Beach area first captured my heart when I discovered it during my college years as a student at Bates College. It had been a long-standing dream to spend time in this area with my family. This vacation rental makes possible the realization of that dream: our kids have now grown up playing annually on this same beach that I fell in love with as a young adult. Having moved to many different areas of the country, Kennebunkport remains our nostalgic 'home base' and we cherish the family time we spend here.

What makes this farmhouse unique

This home's easy accessibility from the airports in Portland and Boston is a huge draw for our family, making trips here easy and uncomplicated. The abundance of natural beauty and wealth of fun activities gives this area endless appeal. We feel especially grateful for the home's wonderful location - something we hadn't fully realized at the time of purchase. Its proximity to so many activities we enjoy - beaches, hiking, biking - encouraged us to completely renovate the house in 2009-2011. This restoration has been a labor of love in which we have fully invested ourselves. Renting our beloved Maine home to like-minded people who can appreciate the many unique charms and offerings of both the house and the area is what makes it possible for us to maintain the home for future generations of our family and guests to enjoy.

Great place for relaxation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were lucky to spend three weeks in August at this lovely spartan New England farmhouse which had been beautifully restored. It was light and airy throughout the day as the fresh Maine air would come through the open windows. Our two daughters spent a few weekends there along with an elderly family member.

The only negative aspect that I would like to point out is that the guest bathroom is on the first floor and the guest bedrooms are on the second floor. This makes it quite difficult for seniors to walk down the stairs during the night. This is not clear in the house description.

Aside from that, we were very happy with our stay there. We spent the time exploring all of the suggested towns and restaurants along the coast. Our favorite restaurant was Earth at Hidden Pond.

Our best experience to date on VRBO for vacation rentals

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this vaction rental home with my 2 year old son. I took a punt as I was told about the farmhouse in Australia, where we live and we jumpted right on this site (we use a lot). I have 3 comments to share that may help the demanding, unsuspecting holiday maker. First, it was clean, meticulously maintained, had a lovely vibe and had everything we needed and a little bit more. It really felt like a temporary home. Second, the location was fantastic, nestled in between Kennebunkport village, outlets, Cape Porpoise and Goose Rocks Beach, yet on a safe, quiet, leafy road great for long runs and walks and a huge yard for my son to play in. We even had an easy day driving to Portland, stopping at Higgins and Scarborough beaches on the way home. Third, the owner was a delight to do business with. She is truly one of a kind and helped us to have a most wonderul stay. But please don't look to rent in May in the next few years - as we will be extending our stay.

Maine is a wonderful vacation destination and Kennebunkport is quintessential Maine! This pretty farm house feels like a home away from home, full of charm and warmth. You can't beat the location (near to all) and dealing with the owners is a pleasure! If you wish for a retreat from the daily rat race, this adorable home has been painstakingly restored for you! We loved our visit here and will return!

Perfect home/perfect location in Maine

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week in this newly renovated home in August 2011. The kitchen is modern, very open and has a living area with it. It made me feel as if I were in Scandinavia with the clean lines and beauty of the decor. The home is on a quiet road with a ceramics studio across the street. We brought 3 teenagers and 5 bicycles with us. This area is perfect for cycling, we went all over... to the beaches, out to lunch and to downtown Kennebunkport. The shopping in Kenndbunkport offers great shops, the restaurants have super food, but be sure to get recommendations from locals so you don't pay too much. Eat as much lobster as possible. We took a whale watching tour when the teens went deep sea fishing. We also just relaxed at the house and cooked some great meals there. The owners are very easy to work with and the house was easy to find. We will go back again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review! And also for mentioning the ceramics studio across the street. The artist is a gifted Maine potter. We have some pieces of her pottery in the house and she tends to have open studios most weekends during the summer. It is a nice compliment to say the clean lines of the house remind you of Scandinavia, as it is an aesthetic we admire. We look forward to your return!

Cozy, Rustic,Can't wait to come back

We stayed here for one of the best weeks we ever spent anywhere. The House was wonderful. Spotless. Showers were great. Kitchen is brand new and has it all

The beds wondeful. We had everything we needed at our fingertips. The location and the house was everything you could imagine in a quaint New England setting. The restuarants were excellent yet not expensive, the town of Kennebunkport picturesque. We loved the town, loved the beaches, Cape porpoise was out of a storybook. It was a short trip to Portland. Something to do everyday or a great place to stay home and curl up and read. I had the best meals at Cape Porpoise and brought the recipes home with me. We plan on coming back and to move from being unofficial renters to your first official renters. Thanks for the dream vacation.

Owner's Response: I'm so thrilled you had such a nice time. Cape Porpoise truly is a gem. The Pier 77 restaurant there is one of our favorites, and the kids love the nearby Chowder house. I'm impressed you were able to obtain their recipes! My meal of choice is the scallops with wasabi mashed potatoes and grilled bok choy. I've tried to recreate it at home with little success!
