Mt Bachelor Skiing & Snowboarding:

Mt Bachelor is up Century drive just 18 minutes from River Wild. It sits in the high desert of the Central Cascades where the snow is light & dry, offering the driest powder snow in the NW. Mt Bachelor is the largest ski resort in Oregon & the second largest single-mountain ski resort in the U.S., behind Vail & the 6th largest of all ski resorts in the nation. The mountain is surrounded by tall hemlocks & pines of the Deschutes National Forest with breathtaking views of the Three Sisters-Faith, Hope, & Charity, & Broken Top. It offers one of the nations longest ski seasons-Mid-November through the end of May (weather permitting). Due to it's challenging terrain parks & excellent snow conditions, Mt Bachelor is the official training resort of many professional & winter Olympic athletes.

In recent years Mt Bachelor has striven to attract freestyle skiers & snowboarders. A 400 ft (122m) Olympic size super pipe with 18 ft walls is the first & still the best on the West Coast. It is among the best on the continent & hosted the 2006 USA Olympic Qualifier. The Air Chamber terrain park is about 6300 ft long & occupies 20 acres with its jumps, rails, quarter pipes, spines, hips, & tabletops to make it a snowboarding playground. There is also a mini half pipe for novice snowboarders. World Snowboard Guide put Mt Bachelor on its list of best snowboarding Resorts in the world.

Mt Bachelor features 3683 acres of terrain, 3365 ft of vertical drop & 71 runs ranging from double black diamonds to easy green runs for first timers. It boasts 88 trails for Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, & Expert with 12 lifts-7 express, high speed Quads, 3 Triple Chairlifts, & 2 Magic Carpets, & with 2 Tubing Lifts. The longest run is 1.5 miles & the 1600 acres of skiable areas are groomed daily.

Other than Mt Bachelor, there are dozens of lakes, falls & so much more-even lava lands where American Astronauts came to practice moon walking on pumice.

Come visit so Bend can become your 'raison d' etre.'

This is an absolutely beautiful property!

We enjoyed sunrises and sunsets from both balconies along with early morning hikes along the Deschutes River Trail. The house had everything we could ever need and then some. We wish we would have been able to stay longer. Exploring more of Bend and enjoying this castle is hopefully in our near future. I would stay here again and highly recommend to fellow travelers. Thanks again, Cathy!

One of our favorite VRBO's ever! We were in Bend for a wedding and rented the house for three nights, sharing it with two other couples and two young children. The home was perfect for us! Open, clean, comfortable and spacious. The location is close to town, shopping, restaurants, and Broken Top where we attended the wedding. Cathy is a thoughtful and responsive host, would definitely stay there again.

A+ Again!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 3rd visit at Cathy & Peter's Bend rental. We've stayed at lots of rentals over the years with our two boys but this is the BEST house ever. They have done such an awesome job taking care of their guests. Have you ever been to a place where you don't have enough towels? Not here. Cathy has thought of everything! Plenty of soap, shampoo, lotions, tp, and paper towels. The kitchen is the best stocked kitchen I've ever seen. The bedding is so comfortable even the pillows! There are plenty of blankets if you want to take one outside on the deck to enjoy all the wildlife in the mornings and evenings. The deer trail is right behind the house, and we saw several deer with fawns and lots of quail and their brood. Cathy has a hummingbird feeder off deck and it's always in use. The outside furniture is comfortable for lots of enjoyable reading time. The neighborhood is conveniently located to everything. Walk down rough the neighborhood to the Deschutes Trail. It does a nice long loop to Reed Market Rd to the other side of River and crosses a nice bridge just south of the house. Try and spot the house from the other side. It's challenging but fun to do. Our teenage boys were even able to put their hammocks out on a couple of pine trees right out back. After a busy day they'd relax outside rather than in the house. A plus! A pool and hot tub is just a quick walk down the street and it's easy access for the bike trail on Century Drive. we'll be back again for skiing and snowboarding too!

Cozy and Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing!

Comfortable, spacious, and stocked full of everything you could possibly need and more. Tons of linens, the kitchen is completely stocked. We went to the Farmer's Market and bought a ton of fresh berries and made a tasty fruit cobbler in the kitchen. We forgot to buy flour and there it was in the cabinet. I made coffee every morning and sat outside on the deck watching the beautiful sunrise over the river. We spent a lot of time on the wrap around deck listening to the river and checking out the hummingbirds.

At night it cooled down and we were able to open up the door of the bedroom and hear the river all night. There is air conditioning for the hot weather but rarely needed it. The house has great ventilation. There is a pool and jacuzzi a short walk away which we loved as well as a hiking trail right down the road from the house. We walked the Deschutes River every morning.

The owner, Kathy, is very organized and exceptional with her communications. She even let us extend our stay a couple of hours. So sweet and kind. We are definitely coming back. Hands down one of the best VRBO homes we have ever stayed in.
