About Johannah Stern

As a native North Carolinians, We watched sprawl swallow up all the farms and forests around our homes in Greensboro, NC. It has taken us 14 years to put together our 1,000 acres of Stokes County land including 5 miles of Riverfront to manage as an organic sustainable Wilderness Preserve. We intend for future generations to enjoy this natural wonderland. It is has been, and continues to be, a joyous endeavor.

Johannah Stern purchased this cabin in 1998

Why Johannah Stern chose Westfield

This piece of NC history, surrounded by State Park and the gorgeous Dan River is unusual in its many rocky out croppings, streams, springs, bluffs, and meadows. It is a stunning piece of land filled with native wildlife. Always a pleasure to behold.

What makes this cabin unique

While the main lodge is situated on a high point where the views are far reaching, the cabins are tucked away in woodland settings so are private and secluded. Yet they close enough to the main Lodge to walk. We are so close to the State Park, and the many outdoor recreational opportunities in Stokes County. It is indeed a unique property.

Great secluded spot

  • 5 of 5

Awesome place, fabulous people, and we would definitely recommend this place. We are a family of four (two kids ages 5 and 10) and stayed very comfortably in one of the cabins. It is close to rafting, hiking and ziplining; a super fun weekend getaway!

Wonderful Get-a-way!

  • 5 of 5

I had a great time visiting Singletree with my boyfriend and group of friends! We enjoyed the local hikes in the area to include Hanging Rock State Park, Lower Cascade, and Torey's Den. The Singletree property is stunning and the perfect place to spend a weekend - we specifically visited in the Fall but I would love to come back at another point in the year. I liked the mix of having numerous activities close by and also enjoying time on the property relaxing by the fire. Johannah is so kind, gracious, and is an excellent chef! If you are looking for a relaxing weekend in the country, I would highly recommend Singletree.

Beautiful, peaceful, fun and relaxing!!!

  • 5 of 5

I was coming into town from CA to visit fam and friends in Virginia and I wanted to make my visit home also a little getaway/vacation as well! I found this cabin and it was absolutely perfect!! Johannah, was such a joy to work with and so accomadating and helpful with everything! My friends, fam and I sat out late on the porch enjoying music and talking, enjoying the wilderness surroundings and privacy, we hiked around the gorgeous property and found this beaufiul field full of flowers, it was right next to hanging rock, so spent lots of time on the sandy beach at hanging rock and enjoying the beautiful hikes! Right next to Danbury so enjoyed tubing one day! The kitchen was perfect, so I was able to stock up on groceries and cook, have my morn coffee, etc. Also, The Green Heron up the street is the BEST place to go for live music, an ambiance rigth on the river and food and drinks!! Had the absolute best time ever!! My next visit back I will be sure to book Innisfree (and i will be sure to book some horseback riding and ziplining TOO)! Loved it so much, not only was it the perfect location but it added fun vacation and peace to my visit!! Thank you guys so much for such a wonderful vacation!! See you all next time!!

Quiet, peaceful, relaxing, secluded - but close to great outdoor fun

  • 5 of 5

This is a GREAT place to stay! If your destination is Hanging Rock or kayaking the Dan River, this cannot be beat! We stayed in the Bear's Den cabin. It is a rustic cabin made out of telephone poles!! I know that sounds odd but imagine a log cabin with the logs going vertical! It has everything you need and more. Not another sole around, no other houses in view, surrounded by trees, yet it has a small clearing through which you can watch the sun rise. We loved the rocking chairs on the deck and dinner at the picnic table on the screen porch, We kayaked the Dan River - which is beautiful!! I think it may have taken us 10 minutes to get there. There are trails on the property which we hiked but Hanging Rock is also less than 10 minutes away, if you want to hike there. The view from the lodge is amazing! We walked over there in the evening to watch the sunset! Johanna and Willie are great folks doing a great thing!!

Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My stay at the cabin was absolutely wonderful!! It was furnished really nice, everything you could possibly need is there including total R & R which is something I think we are all looking for in a place like this. The cabins are very clean and you know that they are taken care of with love and really want the people there to feel at home. Exactly what you would expect and more when you think of going into the woods to a cabin!! I will definitely go back time and time again to experience this wonderful place in the mountains near Hanging Rock. The owners are helpful in answering any questions you may have about local activities, food, etc. and real down to earth people. That means a whole lot because you get welcomed with smiling faces that are real!! Thanks for a great time and I will be going back there time and time again. Remember if you start a outside fire be smart and keep it in the rock area designated...always putting it out before you go to bed!! Oh, and the beds sleep so good; nice, real nice!! I would defintitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. Fish or canoe, kayak the Dan River, hike Hanging Rock State Park, zipline and the Danbury Diner has good home cooked food!!
