We enjoyed the cabin and had a good time.
We loved it!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay. The layout of the cabin worked well for us, the master is on the main floor, two twins in the basement, and bunk beds and a queen on the top floor. There is a bathroom on every floor. There is satellite TV but no WiFi, it was nice to unplug for the week but mobile hot spot works well if you need it. Cell reception was decent in the cabin but is spotty on the way, so take screenshots of directions or write them down. The nearby town of Mount Jackson is very cute and has a few thrift stores. New Market is good if you like Civil War history. Timberville has the Walmart and Food Lion grocery store, there is a Food Lion in Mount Jackson as well. It’s about a 30 minute drive to either town.
We had a last minute change in that we had to bring a dog with us, the owners were accommodating and responded promptly to all questions and concerns. The oven in the cabin was really dirty, my Mother in law cleaned it with vinegar and salt bc we are sensitive to fumes from
oven cleaner. I would recommend that the owner communicate with the cleaning lady to have the oven cleaned more frequently, I see that another person complained about this as well. Also we clogged a toilet and couldn’t find a plunger so we purchased one at Walmart and left it there.
We spent a lot of quality family time at the cabin. We enjoyed the hot tub, played card and board games, and made use out of the ping pong and air hockey table downstairs. My 5 year old daughter loved it so much, she cried when we left and I told her we would be back! Thank you to the owners for renting it out, it was such a nice vacation.
Great Property! Your vacation is what you make it!
If you are looking for a place to get away from the big city, this is the place. This is a well maintained cabin on the top of a mountain. The overlook is beautiful and is a great place for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine from one of the local wineries. This place is about 30 mins from a grocery store so recommend hitting one on the way it. It is very easy to find, Google maps does stop a little shy of the property but if you just look at the mailbox numbers you will have no issues locating. It does look just like the pictures : ) Love the fact they have the ping-pong/air hockey table in the basement, it was great for the rainy days we had. This place is also close to many great hiking trails and wineries. This place is so comfortable that when you are here you feel like home and you can make this vacation spot a place to chill or a place to go sight-seeing, it's all up to you. The owners were very friendly and responsive to inquires and I would recommend this place to adventurers or stay at home bodies alike. Great place to make memories with family and friends. Thanks for letting my husband and dogs stay, we had a blast!
Thank you so much! We love it too!
Basic cabin that needs some more professionalization
Hard if not impossible to find even with GPS. Many roads in area are not listed in GPS. Couldn't get a signal up there so stayed the night at a Motel 6 so we could replot a possible driving route to cabin the next morning. Need to include driving instructions from a major ton (e.g., New market, VA). It is NOT 45 miles from DC as listed (unless one has a rocket sled. More like 2 1/2 hrs...on a good day with no traffic doing 75 mph). Cabin was plain and had a great view, but would have been much nicer if it had soft pillows, blankets, sheets and towels. Owners' instructions were so full of "don'ts" that we felt like intruders. Compounding this was a cabin full of their personal effects, esp clothes in the closets/drawers, food in the fridge, and shampoos, etc. in bathroom. Really should lock that stuff away so guests don't feel like they are barging in. Outdoor furniture extremely moldy and wet despite canvas cover. Never got a welcome packet from VRBO so had to continually bug the owners prior to our departure there, guessing at asking basics such as address, lockbox, and availability of linens. Lockbox was a real bitch kitty to open so we had to use a bobby pin to help pop the lock. Any owners' instructions at the cabin should ideally list places in the area to see, eat, shop, etc. as well as location of nearby hiking trails. In other words, understand it is a personal home, but if in the business of renting it out even from time to time, need to make the presentation and the cabin more professionally done.
I'm sorry you felt that way. However, future renters should know certain things. Under the hospitality feature, all Information regarding the cabin, it's rules, local places, amenities, and other features are all present on that tab. The description of the cabin is exactly this: "4 bedroom/3 bath Cabin with a hot tub minutes from the Bryce Four Season Resort. The resort offers skiing, tubing, golf, and other activities. Enjoy local wineries, hiking, kayaking from a beautiful home overlooking the Shenandoah Valley. There is also a brewery and a cidery close by. You can also visit various Civil War battlefields nearby. Visit historical Harrisonburg and JMU only 45 minutes away. Just 2 hours from Washington DC."
We never mentioned DC was 45 minutes away. JMU in Harrisonburg is. I'm sorry you didn't read that correctly. As far as the lockbox, I will be checking it for damage. The lockbox we use is a simple 4 digit code and it pops open. I'm not sure what the problem was. The welcome email was sent the week you checked in with further instructions. As I explained, welcome emails won't get sent weeks in advance. This is to protect the privacy of the owner. We have not had internet there since we purchased the house in 2014. We have never had a problem with reception or has any other guest complained about reception. There are a couple of dead spots driving up to the cabin, but they last for no more than 2 minutes. As far as some of our stuff being there, we explicitly state this is not a hotel and we use it quite often. We make room as much as possible for our guests to accommodate their items. On occasion we might have a guest that leaves something in the refrigerator and is forgotten to get removed. The property specifically lists no linens, as many other properties do. It's right in the amenities tab for the property. I can't apologize for things you didn't care to read. Our pillows aren't soft? Really? Blankets are provided for every single bed in the house. Again, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, but I had to address this for future residents. We make it a point to make it as simple as possible. I do not understand your complaint about the list of donts. Our rules are simple and mostly deal with checking in and out. If you bothered to check the weather prior you would have seen record amounts of rain in the area. I can't apologize for the OUTDOOR furniture being wet. You admit it was covered. Please be mindful next time before sending a nasty review.
Very nice place or rainy but we still had a good time with my mom
Very nice place very close to a lot of things in brace not Jackson Newmarket very nice beds very relaxing
Nice clean Cabin
We really loved the stay, very relaxing. Cabin was very well stocked, and clean. View from the Deck was great..and spent most of the time there. Game room in the basement was awesome for the kids. Coffee maker(Bialetti), the italian kinds was awesome.
Only problem was the microwave was not working, but we took a spare along with us since we drove from Northern VA. The owner did inform us ahead of time so we could be prepared. Information was almost instantaneous, much appreciated. Only negatives were the oven was not very clean, not usable, and the grill outside was not clean as well.
The community store about 5 min away right next to Bryce resort was so convenient and filled with all the necessities. Ziplining at Bryce was the best - for anyone over 70lbs. Please check the website for timings before going there. Awesome experience.
