About Joe Anderson
John (Wesley) was born and grew up in Hannibal. After leaving for 30 years to pursue a career in IT Project management, he and his partner returned home for a visit in 2012. The allure and history of the city captivated them and they began renovations on 521 Walnut to convert it into a two-unit Air BnB rental. Subsequently, they acquired the former F&M Bank building downtown and launched Bluff City Theater, Northeast Missouri's only professional theater which has been dazzling locals and visitors since 2014 with its innovative productions. In the ensuing years, they have continued to acquire and renovate many of Hannibal's historic downtown structures for a variety of uses and have become an important part of the amazing Renaissance occurring in Missouri's most literary city.
Joe Anderson purchased this House in 2013
Why Joe Anderson chose Hannibal
When we purchased this property, it was nearly derelict as were many homes in the historic downtown. After a complete gutting and renovation, it has become a model for others. The neighborhood is still "in transition" but is safe, with mainly families and older couples living on the street.

The house was wonderful!
This house is wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone!
Don’t let the outside fool you
The neighborhood looks a little dowdy-a house a couple doors down has a tree through the roof but...this home is a fun piece of history. It is beautiful inside and has everything I needed. It was very comfortable and located near historic downtown Hannibal.
Overall Nice Accommodations
Nice addition as advertised. Comfortable beds. Plenty of condiments to supplement cooking if desired. Bath products provided. Only negative is VERY limited hot water for bathing; a lager tank or more robust system would help. Got 1-1/2 showers. Address that concern and a good place for a night or more.
Hannibal is one of the most popular destinations in Missouri for families and couples looking for a quick escape. Only 90 minutes from St. Louis by car, 50 minutes by air and 4 hours from Chicago via Amtrak.
