Review 2017:

Heavenly *****

First things first – stop reading this review and book this house. OK, now that you’ve done that here’s why it’s a great decision. It’s a beautiful, interesting house - complete with nooks for reading, a porch for sleeping, a hide-away bedroom, intricate tile work and amazing craftsmanship. The setting is incredible – right next to the Kaweah River, with a firepit ready for your evening bonfire, a gazebo for relaxing or toasting your day at Sequoia, wildlife to keep you watching outside including a family of quail and a very friendly western scrub jay who will eat out of your hand.

The upper house has 3 bedrooms and two full bathrooms. (please note they are open to renting the home and just the king size bedroom to parties of two, two bedrooms for four, etc ) The master bedroom opens onto a screened in sleeping porch. The kitchen is very, very well equipped and stocked with spices and a few staples to get you started. Downstairs is a large, self-contained unit with living area, kitchenette, full bath with shower. Comfortable beds and lots of linens make life easy. This listing is only for the three bedroom two bath option.... if you would like the separate studio with king bed, kitchenette, dining area, entertainment living area let me know, it would need to be booked separately.

The house is a just few miles to the entrance of Sequoia National Park and is a perfect location for exploring this beautiful natural resource. We were torn between hiking in the park and lying in the hammock next to the river at this lovely house.

There are two grills (charcoal for the purists and gas for the convenience-minded) so head to Three Rivers to the Village Market with an excellent butcher in the back. Prices are high as you would expect of the only store for miles but they had what we needed for our stay.

Cara and Eric are gracious, helpful, communicative hosts. We were 3 generations and Eric provided a croquet set, paddle ball and even bubbles for the kids.

Trying to be helpful here – there are lots of stairs and the river really is right there rushing by with quite a current. If you have young kids and don’t want to be vigilant this may not be your house. Otherwise, book now.

It will quickly become your favorite get-away located in the foothills below Sequoia and Kings National Park. It is ideally situated to accommodate day excursions for site seeing adventures, but the grounds and accommodations at the DaVidgil House are a destination in themselves. One can sun bathe on the edge of the river, dine under the stars, build a fire on the sand in fall, winter or early spring, and walk among the sycamores; listen and see hawks and quail, and every now and then catch sight of the heron going up or down river. There is an an abundance of wildlife.

The DavidGil House is a spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with exquisite views, and all the comforts of home; a lovely home for an extended familiy and /or friends, surrounded with walkways, outside dining areas, gardens, and just a few paces farther, a deck overlooking the South Fork River. About Cara

We are new owners but proudly own this home that was built by an artist, designer, woodworker, the daughter of a building contractor; and an environmental scientist, artisan builder, and the son of a water/civil engineer. With eyes for detail, an artistic bent, and the love of nature, DaVidgil House is well appointed, luxurious, and unlike anything else. We have always loved Three Rivers since early in our relationship being just over three hours from Santa Monica where we live most of the time. Its unique gorgeousness, its playful rivers, majestic trees and small town atmosphere is a perfect balance to city-life.

Cara purchased this house in 2016

Why Cara chose Three Rivers

This property has a perfect location nestled in the Canyon with the South Fork River running right through it. The wild life is abundant and the natural surroundings majestic and gorgeous.

What makes this house unique

The benefit of staying at the DaVidgil House is not only the luxurious ambiance, but how centrally located it is, in as far as it is conveniently close to town, Sequoia National Park, Lake Kaweah, and numerous other sites while remaining remote and peaceful in its location. It's on its own river front, it's close to the highway but off far enough for seclusion, it's only minutes to everything you have come to the area for including the only full service market, and numerous eating establishments.

The place is absolutely stunning.

  • 5 of 5

The owner was very gracious and kind. Give us all kinds of information about the area and she met us at the house herself and showed us around her property. You can tell she has put a lot of work into making this place the little Eden it is. The place is filled with surprises including a beautiful area to sit by the creek.

This was an absolutely beautiful home!!

  • 5 of 5

From the interesting architecture, to the well thought-out furnishings and beautiful artwork, this home was so enjoyable for our family of five. We spent the first 2 hours just looking around. In fact, we were going to head to Sequioa Park that evening, but instead explored the house and grounds, soaked in the river, and fed the friendly blue jays.

Eric was waiting for us when we arrived and showed us around the property. He patiently answered all of our questions and offered tips about the local area, Sequoia Park, local restaurants, etc.

Easy arrival & departure. The beds and bedding were quite comfortable. All appliances worked well. But the important part about this stay was the quiet & serene location & appreciating all of the creative details of this phenomenal home. I'm so glad the owners have decided to entrust and share their place with visitors. Please don't stay here if you won't respect the beautiful mahogany floors, antiques, and artwork!

We hated to leave and would definitely stay here again.

We have been staying at VRBO locations for the last several years, & I believe this is our favorite so far!

Thank you Cara and Eric!

Property is gorgeous. Pictures did not do it justice.

  • 5 of 5

This property is best described as idyllic. The tile work, mahogany floors and doors, the books and furnishings, the gazebo and rushing river in the backyard, and the engaging and interesting owner all contributed to a wonderful stay. There are a lot of house rules that come with this rental. The owners are trying something difficult here by not trying to "rent proof" a house that has all the amenities and details that one would expect in their own home and crossing their fingers that such generosity is not taken for advantage by careless renters. I hope they succeed. Also, the beds were wonferful.

Gorgeous home on the river

  • 5 of 5

The "arts and crafts" style home has so much that is unique, that you barely know where to begin. Furthermore, the kitchen is a fully functioning kitchen with everything you need - not a skimpy rental kitchen! The biggest problem is that sitting by the river is so nice that you won't want to even head into the park!

The two downstairs bedrooms are just lovely. The attic bedroom is OK in a pinch, but with the way it's laid out and lack of screens in it makes it not nearly as nice as the others. One bedroom downstairs has a day bed in it so a third person could stay there as well.

Beautiful unique location. One of a kind I'm sure

  • 5 of 5

Wow. Fabulous stay, words cannot really describe this space, magical is a good one and is used often, I see in the reviews. My family had stayed here with the previous owners several times over the years and always enjoyed the special ambiance of this home. We came to Three Rivers for hiking and and to see the park and we were all happy that this home was available. We are planning to rebook immediately for next April! Cara and Eric such attentive hosts, wild blue jays that eat out your hand, lush grounds, the sound of the river from every window, custom details that money cannot buy, artisans must simply create. Nothing run-of-the-mill here, cubby holes and privacy at every turn, a screened porch,

a back and a front entrance, a window seat, custom tile work, super comfortable beds, just beautiful like I have never seen, and peaceful and even though the house was full we all found our own rhythm and sense of privacy. A large hedge of majestic rock forms along the perimeters, a quick few minutes drive to most of the restaurants and the market and then five miles into the park. Thank you Eric and Cara, we appreciate your kindness and the home you offer to travelers!
